NYX Doll Eye Mascara

For so long I’ve wanted a mascara that would not only give me wonderful looking lashes but one that wasn’t going to run down my cheek if I got caught in a rain shower or ended up being a bit teary for some reason or another, which I’m sure many hormonal girls out there can relate too!

I recently picked up the NYX Doll Eye Mascara after it was recommended to me during a beauty bloggers chat on social media and needed to replace the one I’d been using.  Now I’ve been through a lot of different mascaras, and what works for one person might not work for me, but I’m so glad I bought this one as it’s probably my most favourite mascara to date. It comes in three different versions, lengthening, volume or waterproof, which is the one I bought, and they all come in the shade black. First of all the price, it costs £7.00 which I think is an absolute bargain considering I’ve paid a lot more for a mascara that really hasn’t been up to the job.

NYX Doll Eye Mascara

The wand is super easy to use, it’s fairly thin and shaped in kind of an hour glass shape, which I like. The brush doesn’t pick up too much product all at once, yet it still managed to coat the full length of my lashes really well. I usually curl my lashes first, then apply my mascara by tilting my head backwards, looking down into a mirror and wiggling the brush through my lashes to make sure each one has been covered in mascara. I was so pleased that this mascara held the curl nicely in place. Having quite fair eyelashes I did go back for a second coat just to make sure all the little lashes were completely covered and the brush is thin enough to use on my lower lashes as well without getting mascara everywhere, which is great considering how long I’ve spent doing the rest of my eye makeup.

The NYX Doll Eye Mascara contains a blend of natural oils, with vitamin E and its a drier formula which means there less risk of smudging during the application.

I’ve been using this everyday for about a couple of weeks and absolutely amazed that there has been no flaking or smudging, it’s just stayed put even after being out in a down pour! It literally lasts all day.

I wouldn’t say it’s given me full “Doll Eye” dramatic lashes, however it adds enough volume for it to be a fantastic everyday mascara. It really lengthened and defined my lashes rather than giving them loads of volume, plus I like that there isn’t any clumping and it separates my lashes without making them look all spidery. I’m also really happy that this mascara didn’t irritate my eyes!

I found it so easy to remove at the end of the day just by taking a cotton wool pad and soaking it in a waterproof eye makeup remover, placing it over my eye for a bit, then gently wiping it away, simple, and I didn’t wake up with panda eyes the following morning!

Overall, I’ve loved using this little beauty and I’ll definitely repurchase, however if you’re after a full on fake lash look then maybe this one isn’t for you, but if you’re in need of a mascara that gives your lashes lots of length and stays put no matter what then I highly recommend it!

november-goals

Wow, what an amazing month October was! I really enjoyed writing down my monthly goals and found myself actually pushing myself just that little bit harder and having something to aim for, rather than just a “weekly to-do” list.

One of the biggest highlights for me was moving my blog across from Blogger to WordPress. My aim was to get a new layout and I could have stayed with Blogger but with all the issues I was having I thought what the heck, let’s do this! And here we are, with a wonderful new layout which I absolutely love and the cutest header I could have hoped for. I also want to say a huge thank to to everyone who has taken the time to read or leave a comment on my blog posts, it really does mean the world to me.

I think I was less active on Social Media which I feel really bad about. My bloggers report would probably say “must try harder!” and this is something I hope to change going through November and concentrate on the platforms that I know work well for me, not try to do every single one. I’ve made some really great friends on social media but I haven’t been in touch nowhere near enough, I can only put it down to me just wanting to curl up under a blanket every evening and fall asleep, blimey what must you think of me!

I managed to save some money by not buying any unnecessary purchases, including coffees. Not only did making my own cups of coffee mean I had more pennies in the piggy bank but it gave me some extra time to do other things I enjoy because I wasn’t standing in a queue for ages waiting to be served. However, I did treat myself to a hot chocolate a few days ago when I met up with a friend I’d not seen for a while, so we had great fun having a catch up with what was happening in each others lives.

Yay for Halloween! I never thought I’d hear myself saying that but I honestly enjoyed it this year. The build up to it was great fun as I’d got some Halloween candles and pumpkin fairy lights which I’d had on nearly every night for two weeks. I managed to watch 3 films, Hocus Pocus, Sabrina and the film Halloween, yes I know, I’m pretty amazed at myself. I never thought I’d be able to do this because of my fear of masks, especially after last year when I got freaked out by two people dressed up for the occasion while I was in a book shop. So ever since then I’ve been taking small steps to help try to get over my fear, even down to being able to hold a plastic mask in a shop was a huge deal for me.

november-goals-2

I’ve been really loving Autumn so far and Adrian and I have been for a couple of walks in our local woods collecting leaves and conkers, just for fun. It’s been great to get outside and enjoy the fresh air, instead of being stuck indoors all the time. I also felt inspired to get my baking things out, not that I’m any kind of expert but I managed to make two batches of nutmeg and cinnamon muffins and oh my word not only did they taste so delicious but the house smelt like a dream! Ok, so I didn’t manage to make homemade cards as I’d planned but I baked cakes instead.

november-goals-1

My bedroom and office space are both looking really good after I added some finishing touches to them to make them look a bit more girly. The fairy lights, cushions, throws, pots and candles all go to making them feel like it’s my own personal space. Even just making the bed everyday and not leaving it until I come home has made me feel more organised.

Well on to Novembers Goals:-

Write up my Christmas Blog Posts

I’ve planned what posts I’m going to write and when they are going to be published, but I’d like to be well in advance and have them all written up and scheduled so I can enjoy Christmas with the family. It also means I can change things around at the last minute if I get the sudden desire to write another post.

Plan A Giveaway

I’m coming up to a year since I first started blogging, so I’d like to plan a giveaway to say thank you to everyone who has supported me during that time.

Attend the Christmas Light Switch on

I can’t believe I’m even saying this, where has this last year gone? Literally 10 minutes up the road from me at the end of November the local town will be turning on their Christmas lights, there will also be food and entertainment which I am really looking forward to!

Christmas Shopping

I have got all of the main presents for people but I just need to get a few extra stocking fillers and a few smaller gifts that I have to send through the post. Next I want to get the food shopping done and all those little extras that make Christmas special, so it will just leave the fresh items to pick up nearer the day.

Celebrate Adrian’s birthday

Adrian’s birthday is on the 24th November and he is the most difficult person to buy for, I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that! We’ll most probably have a meal out with the family or a small house party, either way I need to sort something out. Oh, and I also need to buy him a card, or maybe I could make him one!

Social Media

This is one of my weaknesses! I am going to make a conscious effort to be a bit more active on at least Twitter and Instagram, so whether that’s joining in more Twitter Chats or setting time aside each day to go on and not only reply to someones else’s post but also tweet/post myself. I’m actually a very chatty person in real life, so if I put as much effort into social media as I do chatting in real life, you’d be fed up with me by December!

Sort out my scarf drawer

This may sound a bazaar one but I have an awful lot of scarves and it’s been something I’ve been meaning to do for ages, everywhere else is super organised now except this one drawer. I can never find the scarf I want as at the moment the contents of this drawer look like a pile of washing!

Get Creative

Yes, this was on last months list of goals so this month I am going to do some more baking as I thoroughly enjoyed making those muffins so maybe this time I’ll be a bit more adventurous, and I will make a start on those homemade cards for friends and family!

Let’s see how I get on during November. Have you set yourself any goals for this month?

Beauty Favourites

It’s that time of the month again where I round up all of the beauty must-haves I’ve been reaching for during the last 4 weeks. It’s mainly about skincare this month and a few of them have been beauty lifesavers when my skin has needed a little extra TLC. I’m even quite proud of myself as I managed to get through the whole month with only one makeup purchase, hurray, more money in my piggy bank towards Christmas!

So here’s the run down of all the beauty products I’ve loved using during October.

Lush The Comforter Shower Cream

I’m such a big fan of the Lush Bath Bombs but last month I’ve been using one of their shower creams and it smells incredible! It has a warm blackberry and vanilla fragrance and my morning showers have been feeling very cosy indeed! Not only does it smell good enough to eat but it lathers up really well on my sponge. The Comforter shower creme is full of essential oils so it leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturised, the perfect start to a cold, chilly day.

img_20161030_162437

Bee Good Honey and Camelina Exfoliator

This wonderful facial exfoliator from Bee Good is so gentle on my sensitive skin and doesn’t leave it feeling as though my face has been scrubbed with sand paper. It’s excellent for getting rid of any dry, flaky patches, it’s creamy consistency soaks into my skin which helps to moisturise and keeps it feeling extremely soft and smooth. Bee Good exfoliator really has brightened up my complexion since I’ve introduced it as part of my weekly skincare routine.

Lush Rosy Cheeks Face Mask

After trying quite a few face masks in the past year this one has to be my all time favourite and one I’ve been using over the last month to give my complexion an extra boost. This light pink clay mask smells absolutely amazing with a hint of natural rose, which is one of my favourite scents. It gives my skin a real deep clean and gently removes all the dirt and grime, helping to unclog my pores, especially around my nose area. This mask has a real soothing and calming effect on my sensitive skin which is looking more even toned and feeling super soft. This will be one of my skincare saviours for a long time to come!

Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser

Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser

During the colder months my skin does tend to feel slightly drier than normal, so I switch to a heavier moisturiser as part of my daily skincare routine. I’ve been using Liz Earle’s Superskin Moisturiser, which is is absolutely amazing. It’s lightweight enough to be applied during the day under makeup, yet thick and creamy enough to use as a night cream. It’s non greasy and absorbs really quickly into my skin, I love how soft and nourished my skin feels and it stays hydrated all day.

MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer

MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer in shade Dash

I’ve been so impressed with this MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer that I’ve been using it a lot during October. I really love how well it applies and the amount of time it lasts, it won’t budge until I physically take it off with cleanser at the end of the day. It’s also great that for a long lasting lip product it doesn’t dry my lips out, oh and Dash is just the most adorable berry shade ever!

That brings me to the end of my monthly beauty favourites. What products have you loved using this month?

autumn-lipsticks-1

There are some amazing lip products on the market right now but I’ve found a few that I’ve seriously been loving over the past few months, and as Autumn is well and truly underway I’d thought I’d let you have a peak at what lip products I’ve been using.

autumn-lipsticks-2

No7 Matte Lip Crayon in shade Raspberry Red

This shade is just the most gorgeous deep pinky red colour, perfect for day wear and not so in your face as a pillar box red.  I found this lightweight chunky lip pencil so easy to use, it glides on smoothly and gives a beautiful matte finish which stays put all day.  The colour is highly pigmented and doesn’t dry out my lips, so for a matte lip product it’s actually quite moisturising. With it being a crayon I also found that I didn’t need to use a lip liner, an added bonus if you’re in a hurry!

autumn-lipsticks-3

MUA LUXE Velvet Lip Lacquer in shade Dash

This shade is just a gorgeous deep berry shade and will suit most skin tones, I absolutely love it. The velvet lip lacquer comes with a sponge applicator making it really easy to apply the colour and it just glides onto your lips. It is super pigmented and dries ever so quickly into the most beautiful silky matte finish. Oh my word, once this stuff is on your lips, it’s on for the day, there wasn’t even the slightest bit of colour left behind on my coffee cup! It’s budge proof! Well at least until I physically take it off with makeup remover at the end of the day. It also doesn’t dry out my lip which is fabulous. So if you’re after a lip product that has amazing staying power and still looks as good at the end of the day as when you applied it in the morning, then check out these lip lacquers, and at only £3 they are such a great bargain!

autumn-lipsticks-4

4U2 Lipaholic in shade 11

This shade is a beautiful warm toned browny nude shade, so it’s absolutely perfect for everyday wear. This lipstick gives an incredible creamy finish and is super easy to apply, it just glides on so nicely and took just one coat to give my lips a beautiful wash of colour. I was seriously impressed with how long the lipstick lasted, only having to top up once through the day. It feels super nourishing on my lips, so it doesn’t dry them out unlike some budget lipsticks.  4U2 are based in LA and will be available in the UK soon but you can check them out via their Twitter page.

autumn-lipsticks-5

NYX Butter Lipstick in shade Hunk

This beautiful creamy lipstick is just the most amazing moisturising lipstick I’ve ever had and this shade is a gorgeous plum colour so it’s perfect for Autumn. My lips always feel super soft and hydrated after using this lipstick, it’s a bit like having a highly pigmented lip balm which is just what I need in the colder months. It’s such a lovely lipstick to apply and just glides on really smoothly. This has to be one of my all time favourite lipsticks!

autumn-lipsticks-6

Barry M Lip Liner in shade Mulberry

With a few of my lipsticks I do need to apply a lip liner before putting them on and it can be quite difficult trying to find a lip liner which isn’t so hard that it’s not going to drag the delicate skin on my lips. This lip liner from Barry M is just what I’ve been looking for, it has a really velvety soft texture, it wasn’t too soft that I don’t get a nice precise line and not too hard that I’m scratching every bit of skin on my lips.

PS Pro Longwear Lip Liner Pen in shade Ultimate Nude

This lip liner pen from Primark is absolutely wonderful, it acts like a lip stain! So I’ll start off by filling my lips in first with this felt tip liner and then apply my favourite nude lipstick. The liner has such amazing staying power, it basically lasts all day, and the lipstick leaves my lips with a creamy smooth finish. What a perfect combination!

Thanks for reading. What lip products have you been loving?

Rosie Loves Life

One of my goals for October was to get a new layout for my blog because the one I was using was a really basic layout on Blogger which I couldn’t do much with. I’d not been happy with it for a while but it was a simple and easy way to get myself into blogging almost a year ago.

Then a couple of months ago people started tweeting me saying they’d been trying to leave a comment on a blog post and were just getting an error message and Blogger wouldn’t allow them to post a comment.  On some occasions people had been kind enough to take the time and leave a comment but Blogger wouldn’t allow me to reply, I was getting so frustrated that people would think I was ignoring them!

There were various other issues I’d been having when I was trying to type up a new blog post and I was getting in a right state about the whole thing! Thankfully I knew it was nothing I had done, after speaking to a few people I managed to find out it was a Blogger problem and I wasn’t alone. I honestly didn’t know what to do. Should I wait and hope Blogger sorted it out, should I download a new layout only to find these problems continued or should I move my blog to a new platform altogether?

Well last week I finally took the plunge to have my blog moved from Blogger to WordPress so I got Fiona to do the whole process for me, including a wonderful new layout. I’m so glad she was able to do this for me as I’d never have been able to move my blog across by myself and I’d probably have ended up losing the whole lot, so I really can’t thank her enough. I’m so pleased that I’d I decided to do this as from what I can see so far there will be so much more I can do on WordPress that I couldn’t before, plus I have all of my contact and social media icons in one place, which will make it much easier for people to find them.

All I need to do now is to learn how to use WordPress properly and all of it’s different functions but I already know I’ve done the right thing, I just wish I’d done it sooner.

There are a few things that still need a bit of work and some old blog posts definitely need a little attention but I can do these over the course of the next few weeks. One thing I do know is that I need to pull my finger out and start writing up some even better posts because looking back at some of my earlier ones it made me realise how awful they were. Never mind, we all learn from our mistakes, but it’s what I do from now on that really matters, so please bear with me while I get to grips with using a completely different platform.

I hope you like my new blog as much as I do!
