chatty post and what I've been up to

My last two chatty posts went down really well and I personally love reading other peoples. I also find it’s a great way to look back on my blog this time next year to see all the wonderful things I got up to.

I’m counting down the days until Easter after finding out my half sister is coming over from Canada and staying for the Easter holidays. Can you guess how excited that makes me. Luckily my cousin, sister and I get on extremely well together, I’m sure we’ll all be doing some exciting stuff over the two weeks and taking loads of photos for our scrapbooks.

If you’ve seen one snowy photo over the past few weeks, then you’ve probably seen a million. Unfortunately while most people were able to get out and enjoy making snowmen. have snow ball fights or generally have a moan about how cold it was, I happened to be stuck indoors for almost 5 days and could only look in wonder at this pretty white stuff through the window. The snow was just too heavy for my wheelchair to cope with, it would have got stuck within a few feet of my door. However all was not lost, I had an extremely productive few days and managed to write 4 blog post, yay, and get a load of admin out of the way. On the Saturday, the snow had cleared enough for Adrian to take me out for a coffee, we sat on “our” bench by the church where there happened to be just enough snow for me to get an outfit of the day photo and the all important photo of my feet. I was snuggled up warm in one of my favourite outfits including this beautiful faux fur collar I bought in the sale from Topshop and, apart from having so much, I think the fresh air did me the world of good.

Chatty Post and Pebble Art

A few weeks ago Adrian and I were out on one of our walks and stopped at our usual bench. Who’d have thought that we’d be sharing it with an Alien! He can spot a penny from a mile away, so when he walked off to pick something up from the other end of the bench I didn’t give it a thought. He came back with this pebble which has been painted to look like an alien. On the bottom it had the words Plymouth Pebble Art, it honestly put a big smile on my face considering the night before Adrian and I had both watched the film Paul. The idea behind these pebbles is that someone has visited Plymouth pebble Art, painted their own design on one of them and placed it somewhere in the country. You then take a photo and upload it to their Facebook page, you can then either keep it as a memory or place it somewhere else for others to enjoy, and they do the same thing. This isn’t sponsored, I just thought it would be a fun thing to share with you. Wonder where our alien has visited next?

chatty post and cuddles with my cat

Pepper is still going strong at the grand old age of 21 (roughly!), she’s super clingy at the moment and want’s to be near me all the time. If she wakes up and I’m in another room, she’ll start screeching really loudly. I don’t know if she’s feeling vulnerable, other than that Pepper is a healthy old lady. We adopted her 10 years ago from our neighbour, or rather Pepper adopted us. She used to come into our house while our neighbours were at work, then when they moved they asked if we wanted to keep Pepper. We of course said yes, she couldn’t get her little paws up on our our sofa quick enough and moved her little cat belongings in the very next day. She melts my heart every time I come home and her purring is one of the most relaxing sounds ever.

chatty post and an outfit of the day

How cute is this T-shirt which was designed by Jemma, she had a limited supply on her Etsy store and I was so happy when mine arrived in the post. I think it’s such a fun item to have in my wardrobe for Spring and Summer, the material is incredibly soft and it fits beautifully. I’ll be wearing mine with jeans and flats or a pair of jersey bottoms for slouchy days at home, although I think it;s way too lovely to be hidden away. I hope she designs some more pieces of clothing in the future, I’ll definitely be keeping and eye out for a hoody or sweatshirt!

Chatty post including a girls night in

charry post, what I've been up to

After having some bad news a few weeks back I try to treasure every moment I spend with my friends and family a lot more now. I think I always have, just every now and then something comes along as a gentle reminder that life’s too short. I don’t have a large circle of friends but I’m extremely close to those I do have. While I was snowed in my best friend arrived with some treats and we watched back to back episodes of Friends (again!)

Adrian and I finally got our new oven after our old one cooked it’s last ever meal, it’s not bad as we’d had that for 10 years and it belonged to Adrian’s mum when we first got married. This is the first one I’ve owned that hasn’t been second hand or a hand me down. Yes I was slightly excited when it arrived and the first evening we enjoyed a vegetable casserole followed by apple and blackberry pie, I must say it was divine.

chatty post with a monthly round up

I don’t often share a photo of me wearing glasses but I’ve been trying to get used to these new frames. I’d had my old pair for about 10 years and a week or so back they finally gave up and broke. It was the kind of day where everything went wrong all at once, the screen protector on my mobile cracked, the shower decided to stop working while I was in the middle of washing my hair and a whole host of other things. But hey, it’s all good now and I can look back and laugh about it. I’m sure everyone has days like those.

I’d like to say a huge, huge thank you for all the incredible support from everyone after I published a very personal and sensitive post. It was written in the style of a letter and had been in my drafts for well over a year. I’d never really had the courage to post it until now. Telling your friends and family is one thing, but putting it out there for the rest of the world to read is something quite different. I just hope if anyone who has gone through a similar thing and reads my story will know they are not alone and there will be help out there.

chatty post wearing my pink blanket scarf

I do love finding a bargain when I’m out shopping and if something doesn’t cost me a penny I love it even more.  I very rarely shop in M&Co but when I was given some money for my Birthday I went in store and bought a beautiful burgundy jacket with a faux fur collar. I have a loyalty card for M&Co and was excited when a £5 voucher arrived through my door at the beginning of the month. I totally fell in love with this pink blanket scarf, which was in the sale for exactly £5, it’s incredibly soft and snugly and goes with so many things I own already. My collection of hats is forever growing, well you probably noticed that. I absolutely love this grey and black fedora from Oliver Bonas. Keep an eye out on my Instagram stories as I’m sharing quite a lot of outfits on there too.

I’m really into Audio books at the minute, I find them so much easier to get through and can listen to them while I’m doing other things or just before I go to bed. Last month I read 100 Pieces Of Me by Lucy Dillon which I featured in my February Favourites post. I’m currently reading The Story Teller by Jodi Picoult, it’s got just about everything in it, love , war, murder, forgiveness, I’m only on chapter 3 and loving so far but I’ll let you know what I think when I get to the end.

Last, but by no means least, hurray for the return of The Walking Dead! I’ve watched every single episode, right from season one and I was seriously not ready for the emotional episode after the mid season break. Why, oh why, do I love Negan as the villain, someone please talk some sense into me. And if Daryl happened to roll up outside my house on his motorbike I’d definitely not be sending him back out into a zombie apocalypse.

How’s life treating you at the moment? What’s you favourite TV show or book you’ve enjoyed reading?

February Favourites

Hope you’ve all had a good February? It seems ages since I wrote a Favourites post, probably because I got last months out really early and January is like the longest month ever. I’ve been trying out loads of new beauty products, I love spending an hour or two at my dressing table, playing around with makeup looks or styling my hair differently. I find it really therapeutic.

My February Favourites are mainly beauty items but there are a few random bits at the end. Let me know if you’ve tried any of the things I’ve loved this month.

February Favourites

Thanks to American English Seaberry Dry Oil  my hair has been frizz free and feels incredibly soft, it’s also given my hair a gorgeous shine. I’ve been using it as a heat protecting spray while using my straighteners or hair dryer, or on it’s own to make my hair look super sleek  This stuff is amazing and smells absolutely divine! It’s cruelty free and vegan too, so it’s suitable for everyone.

February Favourites

What can I say about the Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Volume II other than it is stunning! There are four beautiful highlighting shades: Candlelight, Spotlight, Skylight and Daylight, the two lighter shades are just perfect to use as a highlighter on my skin tone. The darker two I’ve used on my eyes if I want to add a touch of sparkle. They are incredibly pigmented, so don’t go overboard like I did at first, and the powder is super soft. I’m so glad I took the risk buying it from the Tarte website as I didn’t pay any international shipping, and this is going to get a lot of use throughout the year.

The Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape has to be my favourite concealer, ever. It has amazing cover and conceals my dark circles and any blemishes incredibly well, I love that it has a huge sponge applicator so it’s super easy to use with just one swipe. I honestly didn’t think I’d love it quite as much as I do because it’s quite a heavy formula, but it doesn’t crease or dry out my skin at all. It’s worth every single penny!

February Favourites

I’ve loved using the Touch In Sol Flawless Skin Top Coat which is perfect for a natural, flawless looking complexion. I’ll add a few drops and blend it in with my fingers, as it reacts better to the warmth of my skin and I’ll get a more natural, glowy finish. The great thing about the Skin Top Coat is you don’t need separate products, it’s a three in one base: BB Cream, foundation and powder. It’s a lightweight liquid which doesn’t clog up your skin. I think this is going to be the one to use during the summer months, plus you can build it up to get the coverage you want and it doesn’t look cakey or too heavy.

February Favourites

Anything that promises to instantly boost the skin and I’m at the checkout before you can say Pixi Beauty. I’ve absolutely loved using their Skintreats Rose Flash Balm as a primer before doing my makeup and twice a week I’ve applied a thicker layer which acts as a mask, then just gently wiping it off after about five minutes. It contains rose extract and rose flower water, which are incredibly gentle on my skin, I know some people are sensitive to both of these. The balm is oil free and glides on beautifully without leaving any greasy residue, making my skin feel ultra soft and hydrated. It’s a great multi-purpose product that’s the perfect compact size for popping in your overnight bag.

February Favourites

I’ve totally fallen in love with the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. The bottle looks simple and clean, and has a easy to use pump, with a lockable cap. It’s one of those products that works on everything, and yes I do mean including stubborn eye makeup, it’s extremely gentle, so you can use it to take every last scrap of makeup off. It has a jelly like texture, which I found a bit strange at first, at the end of the day I’ve been massaging it into dry skin and it simply melts off any makeup, removing every bit of dirt and grime. It didn’t leave my skin feeling dry in the slightest. I’ll leave the link to my Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser review if you want to find out more.

February Favourites

I couldn’t let February pass without mentioning Valentines’s Day. We stayed at home, ordered a take away, opened a bottle of Prosecco, and watched a film, just the two of us. Adrian very kindly bought me this adorable Unicorn mug from Vinegar Hill in Hitchin, which I absolutely love! Isn’t it just the cutest thing ever. It now sits on my shelf alongside my collection of other cute, pink mugs,

February Favourites

The book I’ve enjoyed reading is 100 Pieces Of Me by Lucy Dillon, it’s a bitter sweet story that made me want to sort my life out and enjoy every single day the best I can, as if it were my last. It made me think about who was important in my life and all the things around me, were they part of who I am now or was I just holding on to bad memories and things I didn’t need anymore. It made me think about everything and everyone I take for granted, and anything that gave me negative thoughts, when I could have been surrounding myself with people and belongings that filled my life with joy. I have to say, this book probably had a bigger impact on me than any of the non fiction self care books I’ve read.

What’s the one thing you’ve done during February that you’ve really enjoyed?  it can be anything at all.

Lola Rose Alison Bracelet I find that adding an accessory to your your outfit can make it look super chic. A timeless classic piece of jewellery can make whatever you’re wearing look a lot more expensive. Lola Rose is a British jewellery company which began in 2000 after Nikki Gewirtz received a gift for her 30th birthday. The piece of jewellery was so beautiful it reminded her of her glamorous Grandmother, Lola. A few months later Nikki designed her first piece of jewellery and started her own brand. Lola Rose now has a wonderful collection of bracelets, necklaces and rings, in a variety of colours, styles and gemstones which are carefully handmade. There’s also a beautiful selection of watches, scarves and notebooks.

Lola Rose Jewellery

I usually wear quite delicate items of jewellery if I want to give my outfit a special touch. After browsing on the Lola Rose website for ages I decided to choose a more statement piece after I fell in love with this gorgeous Alison Bracelet in the colour Moon Quartzite. It’s made up of 9 semi-precious grey toned stones, held together with dainty, sparkly rose gold beads. The bracelet has an adjustable Chinese knot clasp and allows you to easily alter the size for the perfect fit on your wrist.

The Alison bracelet looks simply stunning with nearly all the outfits in my wardrobe as I tend to wear quite a lot of neutral and blush pink shades. I think it will look pretty at any time of the year, even more so now we’re coming up to Spring. I simply love wearing this bolder style of bracelet and I think it looks so pretty with a floaty dress for an evening out or jeans and a top for a more casual look. I think it’ll look equally as beautiful worn with a smarter outfit for work. I can’t wait for summer when I can wear it with one of my white, frill cotton tops and a maxi skirt, all I need to do is add a pair of large sunglasses for a real vintage inspired outfit. It will make me feel extremely glamorous.

Lola Rose Jewellery

The bracelet comes in this beautiful, velvet blush pink pouch, which makes it feel even more luxurious and perfect for keeping it clean. This would make an ideal gift for a special birthday or at Christmas, I think anyone would absolutely love to open a parcel and find a piece of Lola Rose jewellery inside.

Each Lola Rose item comes with a 12 month guarantee, their customer service team will be happy to deal with any repair you need doing.

It also appears that quite a few well known faces love wearing Lola Rose jewellery, including Hale  Berry, Sarah Jessica Parker and The Duchess of Cambridge.

Lola Rose has such a beautiful collection with so many different designs, there;s bound to be something to suit your style and definitely worth taking a look on their website.

Birthday Celebrations

Another Birthday came round, who cares that I’m another year older? I certainly don’t, I still feel the same as I did at 11.59pm on the 4th January. Age is just a number after all, it’s how you choose to live your life that matters and who you choose to spend your time with. And for me it would involve plenty of cats, unicorns and the colour pink.

Birthday Celebrations

This year I decided not to have a birthday cake with candles, instead I chose to have iced doughnuts with multi coloured hundreds and thousands on top. I started off the day by having one (or two) with a huge mug of tea while still in my polar bear pjs, snuggled up in bed. With thoughts of “Oh this is the life” running through my head, I opened my birthday cards and presents from friends and family. It’s funny, every one of my cards was pink, I do believe people know me well.

Birthday Celebrations

I had very kindly received some money for my birthday and a few days before I’d gone shopping in the sales. There has to be one advantage of having a birthday so close to Christmas, quite a few of the items I’d had my eye on before had been reduced to half price. I’ve totally fallen in love with this faux fur biker style jacket from M&Co and would you believe I found these adorable pink gloves with a faux fur cuff on Amazon. The pink cord mini skirt was an absolute bargain at £8 from Sainsbury’s clothing brand Tu and the roll neck jumper I picked up from River Island.

I wore this outfit with my burgundy knee high boots when I met up with a couple of friends for coffee and cake on the afternoon of my birthday. Even better, one of my cups of coffee was free from collecting my 15 stars on my Starbucks card, just in time for my birthday.

Birthday Celebrations

I’d already decided I didn’t want a big party this year, we’d both had a busy Christmas and I just wanted to spend the evening with Adrian.

We went out for pizza and then he took me to see The Greatest Showman at the cinema, if you love musicals and Hugh Jackman I’d definitely recommend watching it. Afterwards we came home and had a few glasses of Prosecco to finish off what was a wonderfully relaxed birthday.

How will you be celebrating your birthday this year?

christmas gift guide for her

I absolutely love the festive season, I’ll be playing my Christmas playlist from the start of November and a few weeks later I’ll be putting my decorations up, most probably while tucking into a jumbo sized tub of chocolates. Every year I look forward to the family coming together and enjoying each other’s company over a mulled wine or two. It can often feel like one of the most stressful times of the year when the shops are extra busy and you have no idea what gifts to get your nearest and dearest.

With Christmas less than a month away I thought I’d share some of the amazing goodies I found on  TJ Hughes* gift section. Whether it’s something to make your mum or sister feel super special, or a fun gift to make your best friend smile, hopefully there’s something here for all those lovely ladies you know.

GUCCI Bamboo eau de parfum

Everyone loves receiving a fragrance for Christmas and will probably have a wish list as long as their arm.  I’ve completely fallen in love with GUCCI Bamboo*, it’s feminine and sensual both together and with hints of Bergamont, Orange Blossom, Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood it smells absolutely divine. It’s light enough to be worn during the day, yet strong enough to be worn on an evening out. It’s such a beautiful fragrance that it will suit almost any woman.

Cluse La Boheme Nude Watch

A beautiful watch makes a wonderful Christmas gift, it’s something to keep and every time you wear it you’ll be reminded of the person who gave it to you. I think this one by Cluse looks classic and feminine, plus the neutral colour means it’s the perfect accessory to wear with any outfit. This may just be going on my wishlist, so if any of my family happen to be reading this, hint, hint!

TRU Luxury Plush Dressing Gown

I love snuggling up in a warm, soft robe on a cold winter’s evening, I practically live in one throughout December whenever I’m at home. So it was no surprise that this gorgeous soft grey dressing robe caught my eye, it’s a super soft, plush honeycomb material with a fleece lined hood and collar. I know quite a few ladies who would love to open a present and find this inside, It would make the ideal Christmas gift either on it’s own or with a pair of pyjamas and some bath treats.

Tru Flannelette Pyjamas

Speaking of pyjamas I found this pretty pink butterfly set, which would go perfectly with the dressing robe. They have piped detailing around the edge, a button front top and elasticated waist bottoms, just what you need after yet another roast dinner. They’re made from brushed, cotton flannelette which will keep you all snug and warm on a chilly winters night. I fell in love with almost every design they have in stock, so there’s bound to be one to suit everyone’s style, and at only £10 a pair they make a fab gift on their own or as a stocking filler depending on your budget.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Gift Set

Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream comes in a gorgeous gift set and includes 50ml Eau de Toilette, 75ml Body Lotion and a 75ml Shower Gel, by layering all three products it will help the scent last that bit longer. This is a light, fresh floral smell, with hints of Blackberry, Grapefruit, Jasmine and Blue Wisteria and is inspired by daisies and blue skies, even down to the packaging. If you know someone who loves a light, delicate fragrance then this is the perfect gift for them.

Baylis & Harding Almond Gift Set

If you know someone who deserves to be spoilt and is in need of some relaxation, then this beautiful Jojoba and Almond Oil gift set from Baylis & Harding is just the thing for them. It contains a body wash, shower cream, soap, hand and body lotion, bath milk and bath soak crystals, literally everything you need for an at home pamper session. It looks so luxurious and would make an ideal Christmas gift.

Hair Straightening Brush

This Bauer Heated Straightening Brush is perfect for a busy woman always in a hurry to get out the door in the mornings. Instead of having to use two products, this straightens and brushes your hair at the same time. What a brilliant idea? It’s also excellent for travelling as it will take up less room in your suitcase and you can still have beautifully styled hair.

Snowflake Pyjamas and Cosy Socks Gift Set

There’s just something about having a new pair of Christmas pyjamas every year, it’s almost a must in our house, and how adorable is this gift set which also includes a pair of cosy socks to keep your feet nice and toasty too.

Merry Christmas Cushion

This novelty cushion is perfect for any room in the house, adding some festive colour to your sofa or bed. It is embroidered with the words “Merry Christmas” and surrounded by an embroidered holly wreath. I absolutely love this and can imagine squishing up to this as I open my presents and drink my favourite hot chocolate.

Christmas Reindeer Throw

Imagine how delighted someone would be to have this lovely soft festive throw to snuggle underneath when they watch their favourite seasonal film after Christmas dinner or to add some fun to their bedroom over the holidays, it’s perfect for breakfast in bed on Boxing Day morning.

Hope this has given you a few ideas if you still haven’t done your Christmas shopping yet.

What’s the one thing you’d like for Christmas this year?

*This item was very kindly sent to me for the purpose of this post, the first two photos are my own, all the rest have been used from TJ Hughes Christmas Gift section.
