winter-haul

With Winter (and Christmas!) just around the corner I recently picked up a few little treats to make me feel a little bit more warm and cosy during the cold weather.

I’ve been super organised this year and have already bought my Christmas presents but I agreed to go shopping with my friend to help her choose gifts for people, also to stop her over spending which is not always a good idea. Instead I came home with a few replacement items and some new additions! Isn’t that just typical, never mind, we both had a fantastic day out with lots of laughs and a few cups of coffee to keep us both going!

winter-haul-2

I don’t know about you, but socks are the one thing that seem to go walk abouts in my house, never to seen again! I think the sock devil comes in during the night and steals them so I’m left with a drawer full of odd socks.

As soon as I come home I like to snuggle up in my pyjamas and a pair of fluffy socks, especially around this time of year, so while we were in New Look I picked up 3 pairs of fun, festive socks to keep my feet warm. New Look have so many adorable socks in at the moment. I think the fluffy Father Christmas ones have to be my favourite pair.

My friend disappeared off to the changing room to try something on, I know just what you’re thinking, I was supposed to stop her over spending but what could I do, she just vanished! Anyway, I was distracted by this gorgeous pair of tartan pyjama bottoms, they feel extremely soft and have a drawstring waist which is great when you just want to be comfortable at home. I bought the pink and grey checked pair from New Look last year and  was so pleased with them, I thought I’d go for something a little different to my usual pastels and choose a more colourful option for this winter. I can tell I’m going to love wearing these.

winter-haul-2

Staying with the warm feet theme, I’ve wanted a pair of  fun slippers for ages and used a own a pair of monster feet ones years ago, but they got worn so much they eventually fell apart and ever since then I’ve had “grown up” slippers. This pair of cute fluffy cat slippers was hanging up next to the pyjamas and I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them. I just can’t get over how soft they are and they’ll be just the perfect thing to keep my feet nice and toasty in the evenings. My cat’s not very impressed with them though!

Next we went into Home Bargains, now I love shopping in this store and have been known to spend hours in there eyeing up all their cute homeware and stationery items. I usually come out with far too much stuff but for once I only bought two things, yay well done to me!

I have a large collection of hats but I picked up this neutral coloured, thick woolly bobble hat to keep my head warm when I’m out for a weekend stroll, it almost matches a woolly scarf that I already own so they’ll both look perfect with my thick parka jacket and boots, and keep me nice and snug.

Of course I couldn’t come home without picking up this large Mulled Wine candle in a glass jar, it smells absolutely divine. I already have a couple of these in different fragrances and for the price I think they are pretty amazing. The mulled wine candle will make my room smell so wonderful throughout December.

winter-haul-1

During my shopping trip I also picked up a couple more candles to add to my collection as I love burning them in the evening, it creates a certain ambiance in the room and really does make me feel warm and cosy. The mini Cinnamon Spice candle smells amazing and reminds me of my kitchen after I’ve been baking cakes, so you can imagine how much I love the smell of this candle. The Christmas Spice candle not only smells gorgeous, with more of a warm spicy smell rather than a sweet fragrance, but comes  in a deep red class jar and when the candle is lit it creates beautiful patterns around the room. I think this one will be seeing a lot of use when I’m enjoying a nice relaxing bath on a Winter pamper night!

I hope you enjoyed seeing everything that I picked up during my recent Mini Autumn/Winter Haul. Let me know what items you’ve bought lately.

blogs-ive-enjoyed

Long before I started writing my own blog I’d always taken some time to read other peoples posts, some of which finally gave me the extra push I needed to start doing it for myself, and even now I try to read as many as I can. Some blog posts have made me laugh so much I’ve nearly had an accident or cry because I’ve felt the emotion in the writer’s story, some have really inspired me and some have even made me rush out to buy the particular product the blogger happens to be reviewing!

Every month I’ve written a Monthly Favourites post, which mainly features beauty items, but I’ve never written about certain blog posts that I’ve enjoyed reading. I’ve been lucky enough to have some bloggers mention me in their posts, which has really made my day, so I thought it was about time I showed some love back and featured 10 Favourite Blog Posts that I’ve recently enjoyed.

Jemma’s Ultimate Guide to Blogging was such a fantastic post with some amazing tips and bits of advice on being a blogger. She has almost 5 years experience and really knows her stuff, so if you’re thinking of starting your own blog or you’re already running one but need some new ideas, it’s definitely worth giving Jemma’s post a read.

Katy’s 126 Good Things That Happened This Week was pure genius, she asked all her followers on Twitter and Facebook to name one good thing that happened to THEM that week and then wrote them all in one amazing post, it’s a happy post with a twist!

Jade’s Luxury Christmas Soaps From The English Soap Company is a fabulous post about these gorgeous festive soaps from a company that has been around for many years. If you’re in need of a a gift idea then why not check out Jade’s post for inspiration. Her photos are just adorable!

Aine’s Winter Pamper Evening features some great products just in time for getting your body ready for the party season or just for that perfect cosy pamper night for one!

Saira’s Why Winter Is The Best Season really made me smile. I’m not normally a Winter person but after reading this post it made me realise that there are a lot of wonderful things to be happy about during Winter!

Holly’s All The Fun At The Fair features the prettiest eyeshadow palette from Sleek. So if you love wearing colourful eye makeup or want to start experimenting then check Holly’s great review.

Katie’s How I Improved My Photography post is full of some amazing tips on taking that perfect photo. Whether you’re someone who’s just starting out or you’re aiming to make your photos just that little bit better, head over to Katie’s post where she shows how her photos used to look like compared to how fabulous they are now, and what she did did to improve them.

Tania’s Winter Wishlist has some cute things if you’re looking for gift ideas or just want to have a little treat yourself to make Winter that bit more cosy. It was after reading this post that I parted with my cash and ending up buying a bobble hat, woops!

Amie’s It’s Okay not to Be Okay  post is a very well written post explaining that whatever emotional roller coaster you’re on right now, it’s perfectly okay and you’re still an amazing person. Give it a read, and I can assure you, you’ll feel a lot better about yourself.

Tanya’s Be At One Cocktail Masterclass looked absolutely amazing! I love being nosy and seeing what people get up to and it looks like Tanya and Nick had a wonderful time trying out quite a few different cocktails!

Of course there are so many amazing blog posts out there that I’ve absolutely loved reading and these are just a small handful of my favourite ones, I’d loved to have featured more but this post would have probably been the longest I’ve ever written! I also love discovering new blogs to read and try to keep up to date with whats around in the blogging community. Now with Christmas fast approaching I shall be keeping an extra special look out as I’m aiming to write another one of these featuring some of the amazing festive blog posts that I’ve enjoyed reading, which I’m really looking forward to doing!

november-goals

Wow, what an amazing month October was! I really enjoyed writing down my monthly goals and found myself actually pushing myself just that little bit harder and having something to aim for, rather than just a “weekly to-do” list.

One of the biggest highlights for me was moving my blog across from Blogger to WordPress. My aim was to get a new layout and I could have stayed with Blogger but with all the issues I was having I thought what the heck, let’s do this! And here we are, with a wonderful new layout which I absolutely love and the cutest header I could have hoped for. I also want to say a huge thank to to everyone who has taken the time to read or leave a comment on my blog posts, it really does mean the world to me.

I think I was less active on Social Media which I feel really bad about. My bloggers report would probably say “must try harder!” and this is something I hope to change going through November and concentrate on the platforms that I know work well for me, not try to do every single one. I’ve made some really great friends on social media but I haven’t been in touch nowhere near enough, I can only put it down to me just wanting to curl up under a blanket every evening and fall asleep, blimey what must you think of me!

I managed to save some money by not buying any unnecessary purchases, including coffees. Not only did making my own cups of coffee mean I had more pennies in the piggy bank but it gave me some extra time to do other things I enjoy because I wasn’t standing in a queue for ages waiting to be served. However, I did treat myself to a hot chocolate a few days ago when I met up with a friend I’d not seen for a while, so we had great fun having a catch up with what was happening in each others lives.

Yay for Halloween! I never thought I’d hear myself saying that but I honestly enjoyed it this year. The build up to it was great fun as I’d got some Halloween candles and pumpkin fairy lights which I’d had on nearly every night for two weeks. I managed to watch 3 films, Hocus Pocus, Sabrina and the film Halloween, yes I know, I’m pretty amazed at myself. I never thought I’d be able to do this because of my fear of masks, especially after last year when I got freaked out by two people dressed up for the occasion while I was in a book shop. So ever since then I’ve been taking small steps to help try to get over my fear, even down to being able to hold a plastic mask in a shop was a huge deal for me.

november-goals-2

I’ve been really loving Autumn so far and Adrian and I have been for a couple of walks in our local woods collecting leaves and conkers, just for fun. It’s been great to get outside and enjoy the fresh air, instead of being stuck indoors all the time. I also felt inspired to get my baking things out, not that I’m any kind of expert but I managed to make two batches of nutmeg and cinnamon muffins and oh my word not only did they taste so delicious but the house smelt like a dream! Ok, so I didn’t manage to make homemade cards as I’d planned but I baked cakes instead.

november-goals-1

My bedroom and office space are both looking really good after I added some finishing touches to them to make them look a bit more girly. The fairy lights, cushions, throws, pots and candles all go to making them feel like it’s my own personal space. Even just making the bed everyday and not leaving it until I come home has made me feel more organised.

Well on to Novembers Goals:-

Write up my Christmas Blog Posts

I’ve planned what posts I’m going to write and when they are going to be published, but I’d like to be well in advance and have them all written up and scheduled so I can enjoy Christmas with the family. It also means I can change things around at the last minute if I get the sudden desire to write another post.

Plan A Giveaway

I’m coming up to a year since I first started blogging, so I’d like to plan a giveaway to say thank you to everyone who has supported me during that time.

Attend the Christmas Light Switch on

I can’t believe I’m even saying this, where has this last year gone? Literally 10 minutes up the road from me at the end of November the local town will be turning on their Christmas lights, there will also be food and entertainment which I am really looking forward to!

Christmas Shopping

I have got all of the main presents for people but I just need to get a few extra stocking fillers and a few smaller gifts that I have to send through the post. Next I want to get the food shopping done and all those little extras that make Christmas special, so it will just leave the fresh items to pick up nearer the day.

Celebrate Adrian’s birthday

Adrian’s birthday is on the 24th November and he is the most difficult person to buy for, I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that! We’ll most probably have a meal out with the family or a small house party, either way I need to sort something out. Oh, and I also need to buy him a card, or maybe I could make him one!

Social Media

This is one of my weaknesses! I am going to make a conscious effort to be a bit more active on at least Twitter and Instagram, so whether that’s joining in more Twitter Chats or setting time aside each day to go on and not only reply to someones else’s post but also tweet/post myself. I’m actually a very chatty person in real life, so if I put as much effort into social media as I do chatting in real life, you’d be fed up with me by December!

Sort out my scarf drawer

This may sound a bazaar one but I have an awful lot of scarves and it’s been something I’ve been meaning to do for ages, everywhere else is super organised now except this one drawer. I can never find the scarf I want as at the moment the contents of this drawer look like a pile of washing!

Get Creative

Yes, this was on last months list of goals so this month I am going to do some more baking as I thoroughly enjoyed making those muffins so maybe this time I’ll be a bit more adventurous, and I will make a start on those homemade cards for friends and family!

Let’s see how I get on during November. Have you set yourself any goals for this month?

Rosie Loves Life

One of my goals for October was to get a new layout for my blog because the one I was using was a really basic layout on Blogger which I couldn’t do much with. I’d not been happy with it for a while but it was a simple and easy way to get myself into blogging almost a year ago.

Then a couple of months ago people started tweeting me saying they’d been trying to leave a comment on a blog post and were just getting an error message and Blogger wouldn’t allow them to post a comment.  On some occasions people had been kind enough to take the time and leave a comment but Blogger wouldn’t allow me to reply, I was getting so frustrated that people would think I was ignoring them!

There were various other issues I’d been having when I was trying to type up a new blog post and I was getting in a right state about the whole thing! Thankfully I knew it was nothing I had done, after speaking to a few people I managed to find out it was a Blogger problem and I wasn’t alone. I honestly didn’t know what to do. Should I wait and hope Blogger sorted it out, should I download a new layout only to find these problems continued or should I move my blog to a new platform altogether?

Well last week I finally took the plunge to have my blog moved from Blogger to WordPress so I got Fiona to do the whole process for me, including a wonderful new layout. I’m so glad she was able to do this for me as I’d never have been able to move my blog across by myself and I’d probably have ended up losing the whole lot, so I really can’t thank her enough. I’m so pleased that I’d I decided to do this as from what I can see so far there will be so much more I can do on WordPress that I couldn’t before, plus I have all of my contact and social media icons in one place, which will make it much easier for people to find them.

All I need to do now is to learn how to use WordPress properly and all of it’s different functions but I already know I’ve done the right thing, I just wish I’d done it sooner.

There are a few things that still need a bit of work and some old blog posts definitely need a little attention but I can do these over the course of the next few weeks. One thing I do know is that I need to pull my finger out and start writing up some even better posts because looking back at some of my earlier ones it made me realise how awful they were. Never mind, we all learn from our mistakes, but it’s what I do from now on that really matters, so please bear with me while I get to grips with using a completely different platform.

I hope you like my new blog as much as I do!

Homeware2B252832529

Would you believe it? Me doing a homeware haul! In the whole time I’ve been blogging I’ve never done a homeware post, but hey, there’s a first for everything, right?
Technically this isn’t all from one big shopping spree but over a course of a few weeks and I thought it would be quite nice to save up all the things I’ve bought to go in my bedroom and actually write a blog post. You may have seen a few of these already on my instagram but I wanted to put them all together in one place.
Now i’m just dying to show you what I got.

Cushions
I’ve wanted some pretty cushions for my bed for while now and managed to pick up these two little square ones for under £10. I was in New Look when I came across the “Dream Like A Unicorn” one (£5.99) and it was the last one sitting on the shelf in their reduced section. Well you can imagine my delight, so now this sit’s on my bed and reminds me to be happy every night before I go to sleep!
The Applique Owl cushion (£3.99) happened to find it’s way into my basket on a recent visit to Home Bargains along with a few other items. Sadly, I couldn’t find it on line to put a link, so if you ever go into one of their stores it’s a case of grab it while you see it.
Both of these cushion are small enough not to take too much space on my bed but cute enough to make it look a bit more girly.

Candles
One of the things I love about Autumn is having the wonderful smell of candles burning and getting all cosy in the evening. The reason I was in Home Bargains in the first place was because I was trying to hunt down this Wickford and Co Gingerbread candle I’d seen in Saira’s You Tube video and she had mentioned how wonderful it smelt. After searching in a few stores, I finally found the very last one left on the shelf! It’s a really great bargain at only £2.99 and it looks almost identical shape to another more expensive brand! I couldn’t wait to start burning this one (as you can see!) and it has the most gorgeous sweet spicy fragrance, it reminds me of the wonderful aroma in my kitchen after I’ve been doing some baking and this candle really does have the smell of freshly made gingerbread. At such a great price I also couldn’t resist picking up the Halloween candle as well, which I’ve yet to use but it does have a wonderful warm, spicy fragrance.
If you love the smell of pumpkin then I promise you’ll love this Lindsay Lucas Pumpkin Pie Candle. I picked mine up from Etsy for £4.99 and it smells divine and it’s literally as though I’ve just served up a slice of pumpkin pie!

I wanted to add some warmth to my bedroom and thought gold tones would be perfect. So continuing with the candle theme I was so happy when I spotted this rose gold tea light holder in Card Factory for £1.99, can’t complain at that price. The funny thing was I that I’d not even gone in to the shop thinking about home accessories. I’d popped into pick up some wrapping paper. Well it now looks so cute sitting on a shelf in my bedroom.
This pretty gold hanging heart also came from Card Factory and cost me £1.49! Yay, another bargain, and it looks quite at home hanging on my dressing table mirror.
Something I was in need of was some extra storage for my makeup brushes and I’ve seen quite a few about like this one in Wilkinsons and thought this would be just the thing to keep all my brushes tidy. However, I’d already got an unused one in black which was in my office but didn’t quite go with the theme in my bedroom. So my other half very kindly painted it with some gold paint that he had left over (which you can get in most hardware stores) and hey presto, it’s now home to some of my makeup brushes and looks so pretty sitting on my dressing table.

Homeware2B2528122529
I picked up this mini hanging storage rack in Poundland and absolutely loved the pretty detail on it which I thought would be handy to store some of my most used lipsticks and jewellery, so they would be easy to get to everyday. It originally came in white so my other half painted this in gold as well to match everything else. I’m one very happy lady!

IMG_20161016_160927-1
I fell in love with this absolutely gorgeous copper foil print as soon as Jemma put it on her Etsy store. I’d been eyeing it up for a few days and in the end I just had to get it. While I was waiting for it to arrive I picked up this beautiful gold frame from Wilkinsons for £5.50 to continue with the gold theme in my bedroom. I’m extremely happy with this lovely print and it just looks adorable hanging on my wall!

So that brings me to end of my very first homeware haul and I’m so pleased I’ve done it all on a budget. Now my bedroom really is looking all warm and cosy.
