Things I love about Spring

Spring has to be my favourite time of year. After months of cold weather, dark days and being wrapped up in several layers of clothing. Spring really does make me feel more optimistic and full of energy. I start to make plans and feel much more positive about actually achieving them.
So I thought I’d do something a little different to my usual fashion or beauty post and tell you why I love the Spring.
Lighter evenings – I’m not a morning person so I really don’t like the shorter winter days. In Spring the days start to get longer and it’s lovely to look out of the window or go outside after 6pm and it’s still day light.

Better weather – hopefully! I really don’t like feeling absolutely freezing cold every time I step outside the front door so I really look forward to the change in the weather. I love getting outside and feeling the sun on my face as it instantly lifts my mood. It’s lovely to be able to have a window or two open rather than having the heating on full blast, which of course will save on my heating bills!
Easter – The shops are full of Easter eggs and being a chocoholic this is a favourite for me along side Christmas when it’s OK to over indulge on chocolate! It’s also the time when I bake a chocolate sponge cake and top it off with mini eggs. Plus its an extra long weekend, which is always a bonus.
Flowers – The flush of pretty coloured daffodils, tulips and crocuses really do symbolize Spring. The blossom trees flourish with their beautiful pink flowers and every year I have to buy a hyacinth in yet another pretty pot just because it’s Spring.
Getting out more – After being cooped up indoors for what seems like forever over the winter, the warmer weather really makes me more motivated to get outside rather than huddled up inside under a duvet. Everywhere seems so much more enjoyable on a sunnier day.
Baby animals – Being an animal lover, I’m a big softy when it comes to all the baby animals born in the Spring. They are just so sweet and adorable. A true sign that Spring has arrived.
Lighter make up – all through the winter I wear a heavier foundation and darker eye or lip colours. But as soon as Spring arrives I tone it down and use a lighter base and wear fresh nudes, pinks and peaches.
Lighter layers – I can finally leave my winter coats at home and venture out in a lighter spring jacket. It’s great to be able to go out without having to pile on thick layers and it’s a good excuse to go shopping as the stores are full of lovely new season clothes.
Sitting outside to have my coffee – I love watching the world go by whilst sitting outside my local coffee shop in the sunshine. I’ll even sit outside for a few minutes in my garden and enjoy the fresh air and listen to the birds singing away.
Spring Clean – I don’t enjoy the cleaning bit but I do love having an organised home after a big Spring clean. It’s also time to pack away my winter clothes and have a good clear out of anything that I’m never going to use again. Although being a bit of a hoarder I really have to be ruthless with myself and decide what to keep and what not to. I have a tendency to go out in the morning leaving my room in a mess from where I’ve pulled out half of the contents of my wardrobe trying to decide what to wear. So after my big Spring clean i make a concious effort to keep rooms as tidy as possible!
Wonder how long I’ll last this year?
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed this post. What’s your favourite time of year?

Things I Do To Relax

Sometimes i get so wrapped up in everyday life that I forget what’s important and what isn’t. Life can become so stressful with all those everyday tasks that need to get done and I end up feeling so overwhelmed with it all and struggle to keep up.
I try not to dwell on things too much and remember that my personal well-being needs to come first. So as often as I can I spend a few minutes or a few hours having some “me time” to unwind and relax.
Here are my top 10 favourite things to help me relax.

1. Colouring Books
I got my first one about 6 months ago and then another one for Christmas. These ones have space for you to do your own drawing as well as the colouring in sections so they are great for being as creative as I want yet still being able to switch off and while away the hours in my own little world.

2. Enjoy a cup of Tea
I love a cup of coffee first thing in the morning but I also enjoy a good cup of Yorkshire tea in the afternoon. I love lemon and ginger tea if I feel I need something refreshing. However on those times when I just want to relax for 10 minutes I’ll light a candle, get out my favourite tea cup and enjoy a nice soothing herbal tea while reading my favourite book or looking through a magazine. My favourite at the moment is Clipper Sleep Easy Tea with cinnamon and chamomile.

3. Listen to Music
I have quite a vast music collection ranging from classical to Pop to Rock. Sometimes I’ll put something upbeat on to dance and sing along to which is great fun, while other times I’ll just want to listen to something gentle and hopefully fall asleep.

 4. Bake A Cake
Up until a few years ago I had never baked a cake. Then a friend of mine showed me how simple it was and now I really enjoy making cakes for my friends and family. My hubby’s favourite cake is a Victoria Sponge so I make this one a lot. It’s a great way to de-stress as I can take out my temper when mixing the cake!

5. Meet Up With Friends and Family
I try to meet up with my friends as often as I can. I really enjoy spending time with them over a drink or lunch date. Sometimes all I need is to spend some time with the people I love and have a good chat or a laugh and I feel a whole lot better. My hubby is great at making me laugh when I’m feeling down or I feel like I’m in the middle of a crisis. We’ve been together long enough now that he also knows when to give me a hug or just run for cover!

6. Paint My Nails
I have nail polishes in every colour of the rainbow and it can be really therapeutic to sort them all out and paint my nails, especially if I do this with a friend and play some of my favourite music too.

7. A Walk In The Woods
My hubby and I love going on long walks together to get away from the hustle and bustle of town life. I’m really lucky to have so many lovely parks and woodlands near where I live. It’s great to get out in the fresh air and taking in the smells and sounds of nature. One of my favourites in the Spring is a Bluebell Wood not far from us. The bluebells give the woods such a beautiful carpet of blue. Which ever place we choose to go its just lovely to go for a long walk in such peaceful surroundings and it’s also great for doing some of my photography too.

8. Exercise
I try to get along to a class at least once a week. Not only is it relaxing and great for keeping fit but I also enjoy socialising afterwards for a coffee or a lunch date with the people I’ve got to know through going to the classes.

9. Watch A Film
I close the curtains, open the wine, or make a hot chocolate depending on how I’m feeling, and snuggle up on the sofa under a thick throw to watch one of my favourite films. It can be anything from a romantic comedy, an action film or a Disney film. I also love TV box sets and often watch a few episodes back to back.

 10. A Mini Pamper Night
I lock myself in the bathroom, light a few relaxing smelling candles and pop on a face mask while soaking in the bath with a few drops of my favourite bath oil or bath bomb.

Thank you for reading my post. What sort of things do you do to relax?

As this is my first post of 2016 I just wanted to start by saying a (very belated!) Happy New Year and thank you to everyone who has supported me in the last few months.

I had a wonderful evening watching the fireworks at a local display, then seeing in the New Year at home with my husband, Adrian, enjoying a few drinks and feeling very merry by the stroke of midnight.

The first week in January is a double celebration as my birthday is on the 5th.
I had an amazing day, which started off with a long walk in the beautiful winter sunshine, followed by a coffee and cake date with a few friends. I was lucky enough to receive some gift vouchers this year so I had fun trying on loads of clothes in the shops and came home with a few new items for my winter wardrobe.

In the evening Adrian and I ordered a take away and shared a bottle of Champagne.

During the last week I’ve also been planning and organising posts to feature in my blog, which I’m really looking forward to sharing with you.
Writing my own blog was something I’d wanted to do for quite a while and never had the courage to do so. After speaking to other Bloggers I decided to take the plunge and go for it and created Rosie Loves Life.
It’s still a work in progress and I’m sure I’ll learn a lot more along the way, but I’m really excited to see where 2016 will take me and where I’ll be this time next year.

Feeling Festive

I can’t believe it’s only a few days until Christmas Day! So over the weekend I made sure I got in the festive swing. On goes the Christmas cd.
We invited a few friends round for homemade mince pies and mulled wine. I’m rubbish at baking anything other than sponge cakes, so I roped in my hubby to make his delicious brandy mince pies. The mulled wine went down a treat too! The evening was great fun and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
As it is the season to wear novelty jumpers I thought I’d better purchase one this year. I bought one with bells on to match the Santa hat, which I’d dusted off from last year. A friend popped round for hot chocolate with marshmallows and mince pies (shop bought ones this time!). Then we took a trip to a local market to buy a holly wreath where we managed to get a lovely one for our front door. We even sang some good old Christmas songs with a local choir.
All the presents are under the tree and the kitchen is stocked up. Now  I just can’t wait to see what I’ve been lucky enough to get from Santa. Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas.
