Weekly motivation with my planner, to do list and cup of tea

When I first started my blog just over a year ago, I never realised how much work would actually go into it. I started my blog as a hobby but quickly learnt that if I wanted people to read my posts there was a whole host of other stuff I needed to do as well, not just a few lines and a photo, hit publish and leave it.

It’s hard to stay motivated sometimes, we all have those kinda days where we think “I’ll do it tomorrow”, but I actually enjoy what I do and never want it to feel like writing a blog post feels like a chore.

I decided to use the same tips I have for anything else that’s gone on in my life, such as studying or work, and they have always helped me to stay motivated and achieve the best I possibly can.

Set Yourself Goals

Writing a list of achievable goals will help drive you to carry on, break them down into smaller bite sized chunks to make each one more manageable. I gave up writing a big long list of things I wanted to do in a year as I wasn’t getting much done at all, instead I focus more on realistic monthly goals and plan ahead for anything bigger I’d like or need to get done by the end of the year. I write them down in my diary at the start of each month , then I’ll have my daily and weekly to do lists, which I’ll check regularly, to help me stay on top of things and cross each one off when it’s completed.

Staying Organised

I have always used a normal diary to keep myself organised, what ever the occasion or task I’m aiming to do. I tried doing a bullet journal after watching a YouTube video, but it didn’t work for me, maybe it was too structured. So I use a normal A4 page to view diary with the dates already in it, a monthly planner, a blank page at the start of each month and a huge notes section at the back. I still decorate it with stickers, coloured pens and doodles to make it more personal to me. It helps me keep track of what I’m meant to be doing and where I’m supposed to be on what day, it’s basically my life in a book!

Keeping my desk area tidy also helps me stay organised, a place for everything and everything in it’s place. Having a clutter free space to work in helps clear my mind and keeps me motivated with whatever task I’m doing.

Take Regular Breaks

I have been know to push myself so much to get something completed that I’ve ended up over tired, grouchy and hungry. Making sure I eat regular meals, getting creative in my scrapbook, painting my nails, coffee with a friend, whatever it takes to have time away from the PC or social media so that I come back feeling as fresh as a daisy. If I’ve been stuck in the office for a few days, I find going out to get some fresh air does me the world of good, it lowers my stress levels and I feel like a new person.

Be Proud Of Yourself

You know that wonderful feeling you have when you’ve achieved something your super happy with, a photo you’ve taken, a piece of work you’ve written, well tell yourself how proud your are. It inspires me to aim for something even better next time. Write it down in a notebook or journal, so you can refer back to it when you’re not feeling so positive. Don’t settle for telling yourself “Yeah, that’ll do” when you’ve created something amazing.

Inspiration Is Right In Front Of  You

Things that inspire me really do keep me motivated. Pinterest is a great one for finding ideas on just about anything. Very often though, inspiration is there right in front of you, in magazines, books, stuff you have on your notice board or wall in your room and even that dusty old scrapbook you forgotten you had, Talking to other people in our lives, at home, work or uni, can really inspire us to get motivated and achieve all those goals we’ve set ourselves. I love sitting outside people watching, it’s a great way to gain inspiration, I’ll jot down any ideas in my notebook because you can guarantee I’ll have forgotten it by the time I get home!

Surrounding ourselves with positive people who really inspire us to do better and achieve more of our goals is a fantastic way to stay motivated, I found out the hard way by having controlling and negative people in my life, so moving away was the best thing I ever did.

How do you stay motivated? Can you give me anymore tips?

I fell out of love with Instagram for a while after some of their annoying updates, but it can be a wonderful source of inspiration for beauty, travel, fashion, photography, almost anything.

My own account has probably moved more towards beauty, I’d like to add in some colourful lifestyle photos, something I haven’t quite got the hang of yet!

There are many fabulous Instagram accounts I love to see pop up in my feed every day, I often miss so many beautiful photos because of Instagram’s algorithm thing that’s still frustrating the hell out of everyone. As much as I would love to feature nearly everyone I follow, I had to narrow it down to just a five for this post. I’m a huge fan of these fantastic bloggers, I absolutely love their use of photography and they never fail to lift my mood whenever I see them.

Jemma from @dorkfaceblog

Jemma has one of the most colourful, adorable Instagram accounts, I’m totally obsessed with scrolling through her beautiful, vibrant photos, full of gorgeous new makeup, stunning selfies and amazing artwork she’s created. No matter what she posts, her photography is simply fabulous. Her feed always leaves me feeling happy and inspired, how could I not want to stalk Jemma’s Instagram every minute, of every day?

Holly from @closingwinter

Holly has a wonderful mix of colourful lifestyle and beauty photos, her feed always looks absolutely stunning. Gorgeous selfies with bright new makeup looks, fab events she’s been to, snippets of her daily life, amazing beauty products to try and of course her adorable cat, Bear. I couldn’t help but fall in love with Holly’s instagram.

Bex from @bubblybex3

I simply adore Bex’s bright, colourful Instagram, she always looks stunning in photos wearing some of the most incredible makeup looks I’ve ever seen and features gorgeous beauty products she’s added to her huge collection. It’s always a rainbow of delight whenever I pop on to Bex’s feed to see what she’s been up to!!

Saira @throughtheglitterglass

Saira’s beautiful white themed flatlays always give me Instagram envy (in a nice way!) and her feed is simply stunning. She features delicious food, gorgeous beauty products and cute outfit of the day photos. I have scrolled through Saira’s dreamy Instagram everyday and added so many items to my ever growing wishlist after seeing them in one of Saira’s beautiful photos!

Katie @xkatiemiddleton

Katie’s photography skills are just fantastic and her feed is just Instagram goals! This is one makeup lovers dream, I absolutely love her bright photos with a beautiful pink theme, and I’m left lusting after every single product she posts. I can’t help but stalk Katie’s Instagram every day!

Honestly, all five of these beautiful girls are the loveliest Instagrammers I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Why not head over to their feeds and check them out, I’m sure you’ll love them as much as I do.

Polaroid style photos from Printiki for a DIY grid hanging photo frame

I’ve enjoyed taking photos for years, anything from places I visited to something that’s put a smile on my face. Having them stored on my mobile is all very nice but I do love having photos printed so I can keep in photo albums or memory boxes, or out on show in cute little frames to remind me of all the wonderful people in my life.

More recently I’ve noticed that I seemed to be thinking more about images for my blog or social media rather than as a personal memory, so I’ve decided to make a real effort to take more photos just for me to enjoy, a moment in my life that has bought me some joy, or to share with friends and family for fun and special occasions.

I’ve been lucky enough to try out Printiki which is an online printing service where you can have beautiful photos delivered straight to your door. I ordered 30 prints* in the square style that has a space at the bottom of each one so you can write your own fun caption. I love the retro polaroid style of these photos, aren’t they just adorable, you can choose from a number of different sizes for your prints. Printiki also offer a range of super cute products such as photo books and posters, and if you’re in need of any more inspiration head over to their Instagram where you’ll find loads of ideas.

The order process was really simple, I uploaded direct from my pc, you can also order straight from your mobile, tablet, Instagram or Facebook. It’s that easy!

Instead of having my gorgeous new prints hidden away in a dusty old box I thought it would be great fun to have a go at making a DIY Mesh Hanging Frame for my office, you may have seen them on Pinterest or YouTube, although you can buy them already made in some homeware stores.

I already had some old garden wire mesh trellis which I gave a good clean, you can pick this up quite cheaply in most hardware stores. Then I got some spray paint in a copper colour, you can choose any shade you like, I went for this one as it matches other things in my room. It is best to do this outside so I waited for a dry day, and making sure I’d laid down loads of newspaper, I sprayed the garden mesh frame with the copper paint. then left the frame to dry over night.

So I was able to hang the frame from the wall I simply took a gold chain strap from an old handbag and attached it to the frame using the links at either end. I’ve used these sweet mini wooden pegs to clip each photo in place.

I’m so happy with how my DIY frame turned out and the photos look absolutely beautiful, a real reminder of special memories I have made over the last few years.

You could also use these photos to decorate pages in your scrapbook, and there are dozens of other DIY projects you could do if you fancy being creative, such as a photo collage on your wall, or something more personal such as a birthday surprise for someone you know.

Who needs a special occasion to treat yourself, or someone else, to a beauty subscription box? Luckily for me a friend of mine bought this one for me as a gift.

How gorgeous is the packaging on the February 2017 Glossybox? I usually keep any pretty boxes like this as storage boxes for beauty or stationery items, so it’ll definitely be used for that!

As I’m sure you’ve seen by now the February 2017 Glossybox is Valentine’s themed, but honestly you don’t need February 14th to tell someone you love them.

So let’s see what came inside this months box.

I can’t resist a good face mask, so imagine my delight when I found La Theorie Des Volcans Noir Eternae Purifying Youth Potion inside the box, which is a mineral rich mask with anti ageing ingredients. When the mask is first applied to your skin it goes on a thick pink paste, then turns grey as it sets to work on any impurities, sounds interesting and I can’t wait to give it a go! It’s paraben and silicone free and 90% natural.

Oh wow, a full size Ciate Paint Pot in Iced Frappe! You can’t beat a good nude nail colour for everyday use, this one is a warm nude with coffee undertones, and will suit almost anyone. I’ve had Paint Pot nail colours before and they are fantastic, they are super easy to apply and last for ages.

I think the MeMeMe Beat The Blues in Oyster Gold is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a warm gold shade of highlighter designed to boost the radiance of a winter complexion. It’s quiet a thick consistency, I think I was a bit heavy handed when I first tried it, so you do only need to dot it across your cheek bones, or mix a small amount in with your foundation for a beautiful all over illuminator.

It was so lovely to find a fragrance in this months box. A 30ml bottle of Jeanne Arthes is a generous size compared to some samples in some subscription boxes. The fragrance smells so pretty, I adore the scent of roses and this is one will be perfect for every day use as it’s quite subtle. They describe it as a classic scent combined with dreamy, elegant and crisp notes.

Last of all there is a sample sachet of Garnier Ultimate Blends Honey Treasures Strength Restore Balm, aimed to hydrate and nourish dry hair. I won’t be using this, so I am giving this one away.

We’re also given a sneaky peek into next month’s box where Glossybox are including a Sleek palete with each box where you can choose which of the four options you’d like to recieve. How fab is that?

Overall, not bad at all this month considering the Paint Pot polish is worth £9 on it’s own and I’ll definitely be using 4 out of the 5 products from the February’s box.

I am on the hunt for a new one to try so let me know if you have any suggestions.

I’ve recently picked up a few new bits for my home and office in Home Bargains, B & M and a few other places. I’d been pretty good with my money for the last few months, and I’ve got enough beauty products to last me a while yet. I do go through phases of what I buy, beauty, fashion or stuff for the home, but this month I did want to buy a travel coffee mug to take my homemade coffee out with me, my other one was really not fit for purpose anymore. So with some  left over birthday money just burning a hole in my pocket, I popped into  few of my favourite stores and ended up coming out with some other goodies too, I also thought they’d look great as props in my blog or Instagram photos.

I’d been looking in quite a few shops for the perfect travel mug, one that wasn’t too plain or a ridiculous price, and finally found this cute  white, pink and black one with Hello Gorgeous printed on the front for £1.99 from B & M. Isn’t it just adorable, and such a bargain.

It was also my first time shopping in B & M and oh my word, they had some really great stuff in there, things that had been on my wishlist from other stores but were way out of my budget.

While on the subject of travel mugs, I found this gorgeous gold striped flask with a straw for £2.99 from Home Bargains. It not only looks cute but will be perfect for taking juice or smoothies out with me when the weather gets warmer, I’ll also use it at home when I’m in the office to encourage me to drink more water during the day.

Wandering up and down the aisles in B & M, as you do, I came across this mini white wooden tray for £3.99. It’s a perfect size for my morning tea and breakfast in bed, and it’s also going to be fantastic for using in photos on my blog or Instagram.

I hadn’t taken much notice of what fragrance this candle was at first, it was the pretty rose gold patterned pot that caught my eye, and it’s a decent size. Then I smelt the Vanilla scent, it’s soooo lovely! It reminds me of warm, summer days, ice creams on the beach and holidays.  Another fantastic purchase for £2.99 from Home Bargains.

The little copper pot is just one of those basic things that will always come in useful somewhere in the house and is actually for storing tea or sugar, but I bought it to keep my cotton wool pads in on my bathroom shelf. It cost me a grand total of £1 from Poundland!

The little heart plate was also from Home bargains and was only £1.29, it’s going to be perfect for using on my bedside cabinet to keep all the little essentials I may need and my most worn jewellery. I think it looks absolutely adorable!

I absolutely love the smell of this Winter Berries room spray, I don’t think it’s one that’s necessarily for the winter, it’s more of a sweet floral fragrance that’s not too over powering. Again it come from Home Bargains and cost £2.99.

With so many candle holders in my house, I had to stock up on some more tea lights, this time I thought I’d pick up some cute pink ones with a light lavender fragrance. They come in a pack of 30 from Wilkos and only cost £1.50.

I seem to get through so many note books, it’s unbelievable. I use them for all sorts, planning my blog posts, writing down my thoughts and feelings, to do lists and wishlists. Let’s face it, there’s nothing like starting a shiny new notebook especially when they look as gorgeous as these. All three came from home bargains, both the black polka dot one and the cream and rose gold one were 99p, and the pink one cost £1.29.

I love having cute things in my office, such as these pastel binder clips, not only are they going to be useful for hanging things off my notice board but don’t they look adorable with things like “OMG”, “Urgent” and “Get It Done” printed on each one. Another bargain from B & M for only £1.99!

I do love to give my hand written letters that personal touch and make them look all pretty with washi tape, I also use it in scrap books and journals. I picked up this pack of 13 cute assorted designs from B & M for just £1.99.

Sticky notes always come in handy for urgent reminders. I was in Sainsburys doing my food shop when I came across this little tin of assorted patterns on 2 different sizes. It costs me slightly more at £6.00, but I’ve found some of the cheaper ones don’t stick quite as well. Anyway, it looks so pretty sitting on my desk!

And last but by no means least, the cosy stuff! No matter what time of year it is, there are some days I just cannot get warm, even with the heating on. Then there are the days I may not be feeling well and just want to snuggle up and watch something on Netflix. So yes, I have bought two faux fur cushions and two huge faux fur pillows for my bed. They are all super soft and fluffy it makes me want to dive right on them and feel like I’m floating on the clouds!

  • Cream Throw £10.00 from Home Bargains
  • Brown Fluffy Cushion £3,99 from Home Bargains
  • Cream Cushion £5.00 from Poundland (they are now doing some things in their stores for more than a pound)
  • Brown Throw £7.00 from Wilkos ( sale item, originally cost £15.00)

Hope you enjoyed this haul and seeing all the gorgeous new additions for my home.

Have you purchased any little treasures recently?
