Boots No7 Cushion Foundation

Boots No7 was one of the very first brands I bought when I first started wearing makeup in my teens, and I’ve been using their products ever since. Over time I must have spent hours asking the assistants questions about new launches and sitting on the stool in the middle of the store having my makeup done, they were always really helpful and you can guarantee I’d come away with at least one new product. I spent most of my Saturday afternoons in my local store I may as well have worked there! While most of my friends were treating themselves to Maybellene or Rimmel, I was in love with Boots No7.

Boots No7 is sometimes seen as a brand for a mature woman, but honestly, you’ll see teenage girls to women in their 80s buying their products. I think it feels like a bit of luxury without having that high end price tag, plus their range is suitable for anyone even those with sensitive skin.

As far as foundations go I must have tried them all and it became even easier to get the right shade when Boots brought out their Colour Match Service, which is an instore consultation for around 20 minutes to find the perfect colour and finish for your base, blusher and lips.

So when I saw Boots No7 had launched a new foundation I knew I had to get my hands on one and give it a try. I’d always loved the other ones I’d used and hoped this would live up to my expectations.

Boots No7 Skin Illuminator

After cleansing and moisturising my skin I applied a small amount of Boots No7 Skin Illuminator all over my face. I’ve literally been obsessed with this product ever since I discovered it last month. It instantly enhances your complexion for a natural looking radiance, it has an iridescent shimmer that reflects the light to give your skin that perfect healthy glow. It can be used in 3 different ways, as a primer before your foundation, mixed in with your base product or used as a highlighter on your cheeks and brow bones. It’s not glittery, so ideal for using during the day, whatever time of year it is.

Boots No7 Cushion Foundation

Boots No7 Aqua Perfect Cushion Foundation has been designed to achieve a fast flawless finish that’s easy to apply when you’re in a hurry or on the go. I’ve used cushion style foundations before which have left my base looking a bit dry and patchy, not one of them compares to how good this one is. Using a sponge applicator makes it easy to apply and it instantly covered any imperfections. The foundation’s lightweight, buildable coverage blends in seamlessly and left me with a beautiful radiant looking complexion that lasted all day. It dries to a soft powder making it easy to blend my bronzer over the top, I didn’t need to use a separate concealer or setting powder and it didn’t accentuate any of my problem areas such as dry patches or fine lines under my eyes. The creamy formula is infused with purified water to give a cooling effect making your skin feel refreshed and moisturised, it’s so comfortable to wear that I’d forgotten I had any foundation on. It also contains SPF 15 which helps protect your skin from the ageing effects of the sun

The cushion foundation comes in 8 different shades, so not a great choice, I’m shade Warm Ivory which is a perfect match for me. It costs £17.50 for 12ml, I very often buy Boots No7 when they have their 3 for 2 offers so it brings the price down a little. The handy size compact makes it easy for travelling, although the mirror’s not that great.

How To Use:

  • Gently press the applicator sponge down onto the mesh to release the foundation
  • Apply the foundation to your skin using the applicator in a patting motion until you have the amount of coverage you want.

I personally preferred to use my own beauty sponge as the one included didn’t have a strap on the back for your fingers and I found it very difficult to hold.

Boots No7 Bronzing Pearls

The look I’m going for is a healthy holiday glow, so I’m skipping contour and blusher, instead I’m using No7 Perfectly Bronzed Bronzing Pearls. The pots contains 3 different shades of pearls which are highly pigmented. I use a small amount by swirling a medium sized makeup brush across the pearls and applying the bronzer where I’d naturally catch the sun. Even if I haven’t been abroad for two whole weeks, this shade certainly helps give the impression that I have!

Boots No7 Cushion Foundation

Overall I really love the Aqua Perfect Cushion Foundation, I love the feel of it on my skin and the radiant look of my complexion. It’s quick and easy to use for a beautiful flawless base, and the super handy compact means it’ll definitely be coming with me in my travel bag.

Boots No7 Cushion Foundation

I wasn’t expecting to take any photos of me wearing  Boots No7 Cushion Foundation but I was so pleased with the result that I was more excited about taking a photo rather than tidying up the mess my room first!

GOSH Lip OIls

I have loved GOSH for quite a while now and their cosmetics have become some of my absolute favourites in my makeup bag. I originally featured them in a What’s In My Summer Makeup Bag post last year, then had so much fun trying out new launches from their Autumn Winter 2017 range. Now I’ve recently discovered one of GOSH’s new lip products for Spring Summer 2018.

I’ve never used lip oils before but kept seeing them everywhere on Instagram. I was so excited when I came across these beauties in my local Superdrug store, I picked up two shades, Flower Essence and Raspberry. both are absolutely gorgeous. I love anything that keeps my lips soft and moisturised and wasn’t disappointed as these lip oils are incredibly nourishing.

GOSH Lip Oil shade Flower Essence

I have always preferred glossy lip products as my lips do tend to dry out and these are perfect for a glowy summer makeup look or wearing over the top of a lipstick. I have totally fallen in love with these lip oils, I’ve literally been wearing Flower Essence everyday for the past week. Those days when I’ve not worn much makeup, just concealer, mascara and a lip colour, well I’ve been reaching for one of these lip oils instead. They’re so easy to apply using the sponge applicator and simply glide over your lips. Each one is an absolute bargain at only £7.49.

These lip oils are packed with essential oils and vitamins that help nourish and keep your lips super soft. They help to repair any damaged skin as well as being incredibly hydrating, it’s basically like having a lip gloss and lip balm all in one.

GOSH Lip Oil in Flower Essence (006) is a beautiful pearly pink shade and is fabulous for a natural radiant look. GOSH Lip Oil shade Raspberry is more of a clear gloss, even though it looks a bright pink in the tube. I’ve been applying this one over the top of lipsticks to make them look super glossy.

GOSH Lip Oil shade Raspberry

I haven’t used anything like these lip oils before, I was actually quite surprised by how much I loved them. They’re really lightweight, comfortable to wear and not sticky in the slightest. I think I need to pick up a few more, just in case I run out. If you are ready for Summer and something that adds just a hint of colour, then you need one or two of these lip oils in your life.

GOSH have a number of new products in their Spring Summer range, including a brightly coloured eyeliner, mascara and a creamy foundation compact. You can find GOSH in Superdrug stores or online.

Testing Makeup Revolution

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you will know that Makeup revolution is one of my favourite drugstore brands. I recently went into Superdrug for one particular product and came out with a few extra items. I thought I’d show you what I bought and how I got on testing them out. I was especially excited to get started on all the products because at first glance they all looked incredible. I think Makeup Revolution is an amazing brand and you’ll always find a lot of high end dupes.

Concealer

The product I’d gone into buy was the Conceal and Define, which I’d been so desperate to try. Sadly this was one of two items from this haul that I didn’t get on with. It’s meant to be a dupe for Tarte Shape and Tape and I love, love the packaging and the large applicator. I found it to be quite drying on my skin, which is a shame because everyone was saying how great it was. I won’t go on about it too much here, but if you’d like to find out more, head over to my full review.

Lips

I picked up two lip products, both very different, The first one I was drawn to because of the pretty rose gold bullet shape packaging, no surprise there then. I chose the shade Chauffeur, a browny nude shade (playing it safe here!). It’s got quite a sheen to it and I love that it’s a bit more moisturising, perfect for dry lips. The colour is absolutely stunning, it’s one I’d wear for an every day look, although it’s a glossy shade it’s still really pigmented. it doesn’t last as long as some I’ve got but I’d definitely buy this lipstick again.

I also picked up one of the Matte Lip Kits that contains a lip liner and a liquid lipstick. I bought the shade Echelon, a beautiful dark brown nude which I absolutely love. It applies really nice and dries quick quickly into a matte finish. It feels super comfortable to wear and lasts pretty well. It’s super affordable for a great lip kit. The liner has the creamy consistancy which I prefer as it doesn’t drag over my skin, but it’s long lasting and stays on for ages.

Blusher

I absoultely adore the Sugar and Spice Ultra Blush palette and have been using it for so long, I thought I’d try one of their single blushers this time. I chose the Vivid Baked Blusher in the shade All I Think About Is You, a pinky nude shade, which is just the perfect colour for for a simple natural look. It’s just as pigmented as the palette, I only needed to gently dab my brush to pick up any colour and it blends in beautifully. I honestly can’t believe this only costs £2.50!

Eyebrows

I’m not great at doing my eyebrows and most of the time I use an eyeshadow to fill them in. I was interested to try Makeup Revolution Brow Pomade and found that I really loved it. I got mine in the shade Blonde but there are a number of different shades. It has a beautiful creamy consistency that’s easy to work with but not too creamy that it slides everywhere. It’s just a really lovely texture to thicken your brows and create the arch. It does come with a tiny applicator but I preferred to use a Spectrum A17 brush to apply it with. The Brow Pomade is really affordable, so if your like me and not great at doing brows, then this is a brilliant product to get you started.

Eyeshadow

I already love their eyeshadow palettes, they have such a range to choose from and they all look incredible. I chose the Reloaded Newtrals 2 palette which has 15 warm brown toned eyeshadows, varying from orangy, pinky, red shades, to burgundy and neutral brown shades, it’s just such a gorgeous palette. The quality of Makeup Revolution eyeshadow palettes are amazing considering they are a budget beauty brand and this one is an absolute bargain at only £4! As with all their other eyeshadow palettes, the colours are really pigmented and I didn’t have any fall out, the shades blend in beautifully. I’ve been trying different looks using the metallic burgundy shade (bottom left) which is so stunning, it’s almost foil like.

Testing Makeup Revolution

Highlighters

What on earth made me choose 3 different highlighters from Makeup Revolution I don’t know, but at these prices I’m not breaking the bank. The first one I tried is the Sun Kiss Highlighter in the shade Champagne Kiss, and this has to be my most favourite thing from this haul. I mean, it looks incredible and I can’t get over the size of it, it’s huge. I love the rose gold packaging which makes it look much more expensive that it actually is. The highlighter is super intense, so I started of just using a small amount on my brush and gently blending it in. The colour looks so pretty, it’s perfect for any time of the year.

I then tried the Rose Gold Ingot Highlighter and all I can say is wow. It’s a gorgeous shade that will look amazing when I have more of a tan in the summer. It’s just as pigmented as the Sun Kiss highlighter and lasts pretty well.

I was super excited to try the Liquid Highlighter as it’s a multi purpose product. The liquid is highly concentrated, so you’ll only need to use the tiniest amount. It can be added to your foundation or skincare for an all over natural glow, or used to highlight specific areas. I wasn’t too keen on this one when I tried it all over my face as it’s a really glittery highlighter, but it does give such a pretty glow. I much preferred dabbing it across my cheek bones for a much more subtle look.  I think I’ll be saving this one for an evening out, plus it would look incredible at Christmas.

Eyeliner

Last of all I thought I’d give the Double Flick Liquid Liner a try in the hope that I’d be able to master the perfect winged liner first time. Sadly not, and I don’t mean just because I’m rubbish at doing them. The double ended felt tip pen has one thick nib and a thinner one at the other end, I love the shape of both brushes and the design of the pen was easy to hold. Unfortunately I found the liquid liner itself wasn’t as good as other drugstore brands I’ve used. It was very patchy and didn’t apply very well. It was quite a sticky texture that really didn’t feel comfortable to wear.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m super happy with most of the items I bought from Makeup Revolution, if there’s one product I’d recommend from this haul then it would have to be the Sun Kiss Highlighter, closely followed by the eyeshadow palette, they are both absolutely gorgeous. I’m also pretty chuffed with the Love Conquers All palette, at the time it was free because I’d spent over £12, it includes 6 eyeshadows and a stunning heart shaped highlighter (like I need another one!). It’s just a shame about the concealer and the eyeliner, but I did pick up a lot of other amazing items and I’ll definitely be reaching for them again.

Have you tried any of these products? What’s your favourite drugstore brand?

February Favourites

Hope you’ve all had a good February? It seems ages since I wrote a Favourites post, probably because I got last months out really early and January is like the longest month ever. I’ve been trying out loads of new beauty products, I love spending an hour or two at my dressing table, playing around with makeup looks or styling my hair differently. I find it really therapeutic.

My February Favourites are mainly beauty items but there are a few random bits at the end. Let me know if you’ve tried any of the things I’ve loved this month.

February Favourites

Thanks to American English Seaberry Dry Oil  my hair has been frizz free and feels incredibly soft, it’s also given my hair a gorgeous shine. I’ve been using it as a heat protecting spray while using my straighteners or hair dryer, or on it’s own to make my hair look super sleek  This stuff is amazing and smells absolutely divine! It’s cruelty free and vegan too, so it’s suitable for everyone.

February Favourites

What can I say about the Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Volume II other than it is stunning! There are four beautiful highlighting shades: Candlelight, Spotlight, Skylight and Daylight, the two lighter shades are just perfect to use as a highlighter on my skin tone. The darker two I’ve used on my eyes if I want to add a touch of sparkle. They are incredibly pigmented, so don’t go overboard like I did at first, and the powder is super soft. I’m so glad I took the risk buying it from the Tarte website as I didn’t pay any international shipping, and this is going to get a lot of use throughout the year.

The Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape has to be my favourite concealer, ever. It has amazing cover and conceals my dark circles and any blemishes incredibly well, I love that it has a huge sponge applicator so it’s super easy to use with just one swipe. I honestly didn’t think I’d love it quite as much as I do because it’s quite a heavy formula, but it doesn’t crease or dry out my skin at all. It’s worth every single penny!

February Favourites

I’ve loved using the Touch In Sol Flawless Skin Top Coat which is perfect for a natural, flawless looking complexion. I’ll add a few drops and blend it in with my fingers, as it reacts better to the warmth of my skin and I’ll get a more natural, glowy finish. The great thing about the Skin Top Coat is you don’t need separate products, it’s a three in one base: BB Cream, foundation and powder. It’s a lightweight liquid which doesn’t clog up your skin. I think this is going to be the one to use during the summer months, plus you can build it up to get the coverage you want and it doesn’t look cakey or too heavy.

February Favourites

Anything that promises to instantly boost the skin and I’m at the checkout before you can say Pixi Beauty. I’ve absolutely loved using their Skintreats Rose Flash Balm as a primer before doing my makeup and twice a week I’ve applied a thicker layer which acts as a mask, then just gently wiping it off after about five minutes. It contains rose extract and rose flower water, which are incredibly gentle on my skin, I know some people are sensitive to both of these. The balm is oil free and glides on beautifully without leaving any greasy residue, making my skin feel ultra soft and hydrated. It’s a great multi-purpose product that’s the perfect compact size for popping in your overnight bag.

February Favourites

I’ve totally fallen in love with the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. The bottle looks simple and clean, and has a easy to use pump, with a lockable cap. It’s one of those products that works on everything, and yes I do mean including stubborn eye makeup, it’s extremely gentle, so you can use it to take every last scrap of makeup off. It has a jelly like texture, which I found a bit strange at first, at the end of the day I’ve been massaging it into dry skin and it simply melts off any makeup, removing every bit of dirt and grime. It didn’t leave my skin feeling dry in the slightest. I’ll leave the link to my Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser review if you want to find out more.

February Favourites

I couldn’t let February pass without mentioning Valentines’s Day. We stayed at home, ordered a take away, opened a bottle of Prosecco, and watched a film, just the two of us. Adrian very kindly bought me this adorable Unicorn mug from Vinegar Hill in Hitchin, which I absolutely love! Isn’t it just the cutest thing ever. It now sits on my shelf alongside my collection of other cute, pink mugs,

February Favourites

The book I’ve enjoyed reading is 100 Pieces Of Me by Lucy Dillon, it’s a bitter sweet story that made me want to sort my life out and enjoy every single day the best I can, as if it were my last. It made me think about who was important in my life and all the things around me, were they part of who I am now or was I just holding on to bad memories and things I didn’t need anymore. It made me think about everything and everyone I take for granted, and anything that gave me negative thoughts, when I could have been surrounding myself with people and belongings that filled my life with joy. I have to say, this book probably had a bigger impact on me than any of the non fiction self care books I’ve read.

What’s the one thing you’ve done during February that you’ve really enjoyed?  it can be anything at all.

Glossier

While everyone was going wild for Glossier when it launched in the UK at the end of last year, I sat back and waited. That’s me all over, I don’t mind being late to the party and would rather read a hundred reviews, then part with my cash and not jump straight in on what could be just a fad.

However, there was something about Glossier that really caught my attention and I couldn’t wait any longer. Maybe it was the simple pink and white packaging, or maybe because I’d read more favourable reviews than not, or quite simply because I felt left out of the beauty chatter on social media. I found myself saying “I really must try that” far too often, so I hit the Buy Now button at the Glossier check out and very soon I was the proud owner of two beautiful new beauty products. One very happy lady.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

After everything I’d read, I still wasn’t sure what to expect from the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, I’m used to a thick creamy one. The bottle looks simple and clean, and has a easy to use pump, with a lockable cap. It’s one of those products that works on everything, and yes I do mean stubborn eye makeup, it’s extremely gentle, so you can use it to take every last scrap of makeup off. It has a jelly like texture, which I found a bit strange at first, at the end of the day I’ve been massaging it into dry skin and it simply melts off any makeup, removing every bit of dirt and grime. I was pretty amazed that it even lifted away my waterproof mascara. Most non-creamy cleansers leave my skin feeling extremely dry, but the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser didn’t in the slightest. I’ve also been using it on wet skin while I’m in the shower before putting any makeup on and my skin feels squeaky clean. I just apply my daily serum and moisturiser and I’m good to go. If there’s only one product you try from Glossier, let it be this one.

Glossier Balm Dotcom

The Glossier Balm Dotcom had been on my wish list for so long, so naturally it was going to end up in my basket when I was making my Glossier order. It’s an all purpose balm that can be used on dry lips, cuticles, elbows, anywhere that needs some TLC. It comes in 6 different flavours, from Original to Coconut. Naturally I went for the Rose flavour, which has a translucent pink tint to it. The balm has quite a thick consistency, so I’ve been applying it to my lips every evening as part of my night time skincare routine and it’s really nourished my dry lips, they feel super soft the following day. I’ll also be using this on a minimal makeup day, when I want a hint of colour on my lips but can’t be bothered with lipstick. The tube is also a handy little size to carry in your bag through the day. I’ll be honest, it’s probably a more expensive version of Vaseline, however I really love the Balm Dotcom and I’d definitely recommend that you try it.

Have you bought anything from Glossier? How did you get on using it?
