wonderland makeup review

As a lover of makeup I love discovering new brands and being a blogger has given me the opportunity to experiment with different products that I would normally have shied away from. I hadn’t heard of Wonderland Makeup before they approached me asking if I would like to test out a few items from their website. I was beyond excited and couldn’t wait to see what arrived in the post.

Wonderland is a UK based company that sell high quality makeup at affordable prices. They are 100% cruelty free and have a vast range of products from foundations and primers, to eyeshadows and mascaras.

Here’s what products I’ve been testing so I could share what I thought with you.

wonderland makeup studio fix primer Review

wonderland makeup studio fix primer

I’ve had difficulty with some primers before as I have very dry skin. The Studio Finish Primer made my skin feel beautifully hydrated and gave me a lovely smooth base to apply my foundation. It’s a clear gel formula and you only need a small amount to cover your whole face. It’s lightweight and quickly absorbed into my skin without leaving it feeling sticky or greasy, you can basically apply your foundation straight away. This feels so comfortable to wear underneath any base products and made my foundation much easier to blend and also last that little bit longer. I think it’s absolutely fabulous as it helped to reduce large pores around my nose, which is usually a problem area for me, it also minimises any fine lines you may have.

wonderland makeup eyeshadow

wonderland makeup eyeshadow

The eyeshadows are super cute and mine came in the shade C Blue, which I knew I’d love from the moment I saw it. I’m usually into greys and browns for everyday wear but this colour will be perfect for a going out look. This vibrant blue is extremely pigmented, I only used one swipe of eyeshadow for the swatch and there was no fall out when I tried it with a brush. It’s a soft creamy powder that blends in easily, leaving a wonderful pop of colour on my eyelid and it lasted a lot longer than some other brands which cost a lot more.

wonderland makeup nail polish in shade snow white

I have quite a collection of nail polishes, some I love more than the others The last item from Wonderland Makeup was this beautiful nail polish in the shade snow white, which is a shade I wouldn’t normally wear. It applies really well and dries quickly, so that’s definitely a bonus for some one like me who ends up fidgeting after five minutes. I noticed a few chips starting to appear after about four days, so it lasts incredibly well. I think this shade would also look amazing to use as a base colour when you want to apply nail art.

wonderland makeup review

Overall, I’m really impressed with Wonderland Makeup, I think it’s worth every penny. The packaging is super cute and doesn’t feel flimsy, the products are good quality and very affordable and they have a good range of shades to choose from. I’m definitely going to add a few pieces from their range into my makeup collection.

Have you tried Wonderland Makeup before?

boohoo makeup

I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard BooHoo had launched their own makeup collection and I couldn’t wait to try it out for myself. Scrolling through the website I came across so many gorgeous products from other brands including W7 and Technic, but I decided to pick up a few items from BooHoo’s own cosmetics range and put them to the test.

The BooHoo makeup includes eyeshadow palettes, liquid lipsticks and lip kits, a setting spray, primers and highlighter palettes. They also have a set of four rosegold oval makeup brushes and a set of two beauty blending sponges! Here’s what I bought and my first impressions.

boohoo makeup, boohoo liquid lipstick, boohoo primer, boohoo highlighter

The first product I tried from my BooHoo makeup haul was the Illuminating Primer. This is quite a thin liquid, it applied well and was easy to blend, giving my complexion a healthy dewy glow. The primer felt really comfortable to wear over the drier areas of my skin but sadly it accentuated the large pores around my nose area.

The Highlight Palette is simply gorgeous, it’s set in rose gold packaging and at only £6 you’re getting a real bargain. The powders are incredibly soft and blend beautifully, the shade on the right has to be my absolute favourite. The glow that came off this little beauty matched a couple of my more expensive highlighting palettes!

boohoo liquid lipstick

I’m still very much in love with liquid lipsticks, especially in a good nude as they go with everything, for any occassion. I chose a pack of three liquid lipsticks from BooHoo which included a nude, pale pink and darker pink. Unfortunately the packs don’t have a shade written on them, but I really loved the raspberry pink colour. The liquid lipsticks applied really nicely with an easy to use applicator, the colour dried quite quickly into a stunning matte finish. It lasted pretty well, just not quite as long as I’d hoped but for £8 you’re getting three liquid lipsticks so I won’t complain.

The lip kit I chose was in the shade Pink. The liner applied really nicely without dragging my skin but the lip shade did feel a bit sticky and took a few coats to build up any colour. I’m going to keep this one in my bag for emergencies. at £4 it doesn’t matter too much if I lose it after one too many glasses of wine on a night out!

boohoo eyeshadow palette

The BooHoo Makeup Collection has a choice of three eyeshadow palettes, Smokey, Bronze/Nude and Colourpop and these have to be my favourite products from the whole range, I have the Colourpop palette with a mix of pinks, purples and nudes eyeshadows, perfect for any time of day, the bottom 4 shades are absolutely stunning! The powder is so soft, the shades have a high pigment and they’re easy to blend. The eyeshadow palettes cost £10 and with eight shades you do get a lot for your money.

Overall I think the Boohoo cosmetics range is a good budget brand if you’re just starting out in makeup or you don’t really want to spend a lot of money out on products. The range is also cruelty free.

I’ve also recently made a shopping trip to pick up some new clothes for Autumn and if you’d like to see what I bought then I’ll leave the link here.

a selection of makeup

For me, a change in seasons usually means a change in my makeup routine, or at least delving to the back of my beauty drawer and bringing out some long forgotten favourites. After months of wearing pastel pinks and a bronzy look, I’ll swap my every day makeup to something a little warmer, with the main additions being darker lip products. I feel much more confident when I wear makeup and use products I know will give me the best possible result.

a selection of make up from GOSH, Urban Decay and Too Faced

Before I go anywhere near my face with a scrap of makeup I’ll prep my skin by carrying out my daily skincare routine. Then I’ll apply GOSH Primer Plus+ is pretty amazing, it smooths out my skins texture and helps my makeup last longer. This primer is super lightweight and comes in a pale nude shade when you first apply it, it will quickly adapt to most skin tones. I only need one pump to cover the whole of my face and it blends in easily using my fingers, making my skin feel super soft. It contains oak extract, plus it’s anti pollution and is perfume free, which is great for my sensitive skin and a perfect base for my makeup.

a selection of makeup

Having the perfect base allows the rest of my makeup to come together for a flawless finish. Too Faced Born This Way Foundation has a lovely creamy consistency and doesn’t dry out my skin. I use one pump on the back of my hand and dot some across my face, blending it in with a damp beauty blender. This foundation is incredible, it’s smooth application gives my complexion a wonderful flawless finish with a medium to full coverage, concealing any blemishes. It’s lightweight, lasts all day and still looks amazing. This is my new go-to foundation, so I’ll be using this one for quite a while!

I simply love the Makeup Revelation Iconic Lights Contour Palette if I want to add a little shape to my face, taking a medium sized makeup brush I’ll sweep the warmer shade (bottom row, second right) into the hollows of my cheeks and across the top of my forehead. These powders are so soft and creamy and incredibly pigmented, so don’t go over board at first!

GOSH The Strobe ‘N Glow Kit in 002 Blush is a gorgeous cheek palette which includes a beautiful matte blush in a peachy shade, two highlighting blushers and a highlighter. All four shades are stunning, the powders are incredibly soft and blend in beautifully.

Hourglass Highlighting palette

To brighten up my complexion I’ll add dusting of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder all over my face. I’m using the shade Dim, which is a neutral peach beige, without being too sparkly. It helps to blurr any imperfections and gives me a healthy radiant glow.

a tube of concealer from Urban Decay

I’ve been using Urban Decay Naked Skin Complete Coverage Concealer for covering up the dark circles under my eyes, it’s my little magic wand. I dot a small amount where I need it and blend it in with a beauty sponge, it has the most amazing coverage, concealing blemishes in a smooth matte finish.

yellowed toned face powder

I set my concealer in place with GOSH Prime ‘N Set Primer and Mattifying Powder in Banana, occassionally I use it after I’ve applied my foundation to help control  shine and create a flawless look. It’s so incredibly lightweight that it didn’t feel like I was wearing any powder at all. You can also use it under your makeup as a primer to help minimize pores, fine lines and redness.

eyeshadow palette

The Urban Decay Naked Palette is one of my all time favourite eyeshadow palette for an everyday look. The palette comes with 12 golden neutral toned shades, including matte, satin and  shimmer. Each eyeshadow has a silky texture and blends in effortlessly, the shades are super pigmented and have amazing staying power. I apply Naked all over my lid, Smog in the crease, then I’ll take Darkhorse in the outer corners, blending it up into the crease and along my lower lash line. I’ll finish with Sidecar on the inner part of my eyelid and Virgin right in the inner corner.

a mascara from GOSH

I use Kat Von D Tattoo Liquid Liner to line my upper lash line, it’s absolutely incredible. I am rubbish at creating the perfect winged eyeliner and this one makes it so much easier to get right. It’s super pigmented in bold black and stays put all day, no amount of crying, eye rubbing or getting stuck in a downpour  is going to smudge this little beauty!

GOSH My Favourite Mascara gives your lashes a wonderful, natural, everyday look. The large fibre brush helps to lengthen and define each lash, yet adding loads of volume without going all clumpy. It puts quite a lot of mascara onto my lashes, making them look thicker and fuller, one coat is definitely enough. It wears lovely throughout the day and I’m not left with any flaky bits that have dropped onto my cheek. It’s smudge proof, lasts all day and still looked amazing when I got home, even after my eyes were watering!

a selection of lip products

For everyday I’ll apply NYX Lip Liner in Nude and Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in the shade Monogamous, which is a gorgeous browny nude and is creamy, a moisturising formula. I’m also obsessed with Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit in Allure which is a stunning metallic plum shade. I love wearing a bolder lip and some my favourites this season are NYX Butter Gloss in shade Red Velvet, Sleek Matte Lipstick in shade Russian Roulette, GOSH Lipstick in the shade Amethyst, and Rodial Suede Lips in shade Big Apple. These lip products are all incredibly long lasting and feel really comfortable to wear without drying out my lips.

rose gold makeup brushes

Rose Gold Makeup Brushes and a selection of makeup

I have a vast collection of different makeup tools including brushes from Real Techniques, Spectrum and Indy Luxe. More recently I’ve been using these rose gold oval ones from Luxe Studio Uk, if you’d like to read more about them I’ll leave the review I wrote about them here.

Have you got a favourite product you always use or do you change your look with the seasons?

Beauty and makeup products I've loved using this month

Well my plans to do an Instagram Story every day during July went right out the window, although I did manage a few days, this is something I’d really like to make an effort with next month. I’ve really been enjoying taking more lifestyle photos to share on Instagram. When I looked back over my Instagram from before I was blogging, my feed was full of life, hardly a beauty product insight. Gradually it shifted more towards “Rosie Loves Life” and “Sharon” kind of disappeared, it used to be my online photo album to share with friends but then I suppose that’s what Facebook is for.

Anyway, July has been a busy month for me with some very exciting things going on, I met new people, explored new places and went to the cinema for a girls night out. I’ve also been trying out some fab new products and most of them have made it to this months favourites along side some of the other things I’ve loved in July.

W7 Eyeshadow Palette Delicious

W7 Eyeshadow palette in Delicious

This is an absolutely stunning eyeshadow palette and I’d been trying to get hold of it when it first appeared online. Finally I managed to purchase the palette as soon as it came back into stock and I’ve been absolutely obsessed with it ever since! It’s a dupe for the ABH Modern Renaissance palette, but much more affordable at only £12.95. There are 14 different eyeshadows with a mix of berry and neutral shades, including matte and shimmer, some of which are totally out of my comfort zone. I’ve mainly been using the darker, berry tones, which are highly pigmented, but a few of the lighter shades don’t really show up much on me at all. I’ve been getting much braver with my makeup looks but I’m not quite ready to dye my hair pink just yet!

The Body Shop Atlas Mountain Rose Body Cream and The Body Shop Skin Defence Essence

The Body Shop has been a place I’ve loved for years but hadn’t been in for a while. I needed to replace a few bits and picked up the Skin Defence Multi-Protection Essence and I’ve been using it on my skin before I go out in the sun. It’s a lightweight milk that makes my skin feel so soft, it contains SPF 50 so it will protect my skin against sun damage so it’s seen a lot of use this month and came with me on both trips away.

I’ve also been using The Body Shop’s Atlas Mountain Rose Body Cream as part of my daily skincare routine, it’s super creamy and leaves my skin feeling extremely soft. It’s has a slightly different fragrance than the plain old rose I usually go for, this body cream has less of a sweet smell due to rose mixed with warm spices and amber, so it’s a really comforting fragrance. I’ve been suffering with a lot of dry areas on my skin, especially my elbows, and this has been the only body cream that’s sorted them out. Plus it’s a wonderful body cream to apply after having a relaxing bath, oh that’ll be the next thing on my list, the bath foam to go with it!

NYX HD Foundation and Barry M Lipstick Mannequin

For a drugstore foundation I’ve been pretty impressed with NYX HD Studio Photogenic Foundation, I tend not to wear to much base in the summer but occasionally I need more than a tinted moisturiser. After being outside in the sun a lot I had to get a foundation that was a few shades darker than my winter one, so thought I’d try the NYX range. This foundation applies really lovely with my damp beauty sponge and gives a lovely dewy finish. I only apply a light layer but the coverage is incredible. It doesn’t feel too heavy on my skin and didn’t stick to any dry patches. Plus it comes in a handy size tube, so it’s easy to pack for a holiday.

Barry M Satin Super Slick Lip Paint in Mannequin is a beautiful peachy, nude shade and has been my go-to lipstick on many occasions this month. It contains Shea Butter, so it’s extremely moisturising on my lips, it almost acts like a lip balm and lipstick in one which has been great on busy days. It’s incredibly glossy and last pretty well considering it’s a satin lip product. I’ve also seen a gorgeous wine shade, which will be perfect for Autumn!

Sass & Belle Trinket Dish

The month started of with the most amazing trip to Brighton, I was extremely excited as it was my first time visiting there and I was going to meet my blogging friend Holly. We both had an amazing day together, exploring the sights, eating ice cream on the Pier and generally having loads of fun hanging out together. Holly very kindly gave me this pretty trinket dish as a reminder of our day together and it has sat on my dressing table with my favourite pieces of jewellery on it . Isn’t it so pretty? If you’d like to find out more about what we got up to, I’ll leave a link to my blog post here.

W7 Nail Polish in shade Fluorescent Pink

I adore pink nail polish but this has to be my favourite shade ever! I’ve been wearing W7 Nail Polish In Fluorescent Pink for most of the month and it seemed to go with most outfits I was wearing and looked pretty good when I was holding products for close up shots in my photos too! It applies really nicely, quick drying and stays chip free for days, which is pretty good going for me.

Pink Beach Hut in Southwold

My second trip of the month was a few days in Southwold. I’d never been there before so really didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out to be a really beautiful, quaint seaside town. When we fist arrived I had the most amazing vegetarian cooked breakfast in a cafe by the sea, it was so huge that I was full up for most of the day! We took a walk along the promenade and past the pastel coloured beach huts, had a stroll around the shops and walked along the pier where Adrian and I got caught in the heaviest rain shower ever! We were laughing so much and both looked like we been for a swim in the sea, but luckily soon dried off.

A painting from Dorkface Shop on Etsy

By now you’ll all know how much I adore Jemma and everything she sells on her Etsy store and I couldn’t let the month go without mentioning this gorgeous pink, white and blue painting from her. When Jemma started selling one off pieces of artwork I’ve fallen in love with every single one. She even shows little snippets on her Instagram Stories as she’s creating each piece, it’s so therapeutic I could watch them all day. It is first come first served with these larger canvas paintings, but each one I’ve seen so far has looked amazing. This one is now in my bedroom and I absolutely love it, the colours are beautifully put together. When someone commented on this on her social media they mentioned having the feeling of candy floss, clouds, flamingos and 1950’s tea dresses (sorry, I can’t remember who, so I can’t credit them). These canvas paintings are different to her usual drawings, you see what you want to see in them, she had a stunning orange, yellow and green one which had the feel of freedom in the sunshine and exploring in the woods. Jemma even had one with pom poms and glitter on!

I always get very excited when brands bring out their new season products, especially when it’s a brand I’ve loved for a while. The very first item of makeup I bought from GOSH was a clear eyebrow gel back in 2015. Back then I thought they were a relatively new company, so imagine my surprise when I discovered GOSH has been around since 1945!

I was over the moon when GOSH emailed me to invite me to the launch of their new AW17 collection up in London, I would’ve absolutely loved to have gone but I sadly I couldn’t make it that evening. GOSH* very kindly sent me out some of their new products to try, how lovely is that?

It would have been amazing to see some of the other bloggers I know there too, like Holly (from Golly Miss Holly) and Tania (from When Tania Talks), but hey, there’s always next time!

The Strobe ‘N Glow Kit in 002 Blush has a gorgeous matte blush, two highlighting blushers and a highlighter, all four shades are stunning and the powder is incredibly soft.

GOSH also have a Strobe ‘N Glow Kit 001 Highlight, which has three stunning shades for bronzing and a highlighter. If that’s as amazing as the blush kit then I’ll be adding that to my basket next time I’m in Superdrug!

The Mix and Fix Blender brush is perfect for mixing liquid foundation with concealer or liquid highlighter such as GOSH Lumi Drops. The brush is so soft and applied my makeup evenly, without leaving any streaky lines. It’s 100% synthetic and suitable for vegans.

If you love GOSH Lumi Drops as much as I do, then you’ll be pleased to know there are two new shades, Gold and Rose Gold (definitely need that one in my life!) These liquid highlighters can be used on bare skin, over the top of your foundation or just on certain areas of your face to give a healthy glow.

I was particularly interested in trying out the Prime ‘N Set Primer and Mattifying Powder in Banana. You can use it under your makeup as a primer help minimize pores, fine lines and redness. The powder can also be used to set your makeup in place and help control  shine to create a flawless look. It’s so incredibly lightweight that it didn’t feel like I was wearing any powder at all.

GOSH Colour Corrector Kit has 5 different shades for high coverage of any problems areas, a concealer (for small imperfections), Yellow (for under eye circles), Green (to cover any red patches), Purple (for any yellow tones) and Peach (for brightening under the eye). It’s a super creamy consistency which blends in beautifully, I found it best to apply a primer first as this stops the corrector from creasing.

The Lift and Highlight 2 in 1 pencil helps to define, lift and highlight, one end is matte and the other is a shimmery shade. It’s perfect for under your eye brow, the inner corner of your eyes and your cupids bow. Again, it’s a thick creamy formula that blends in easily using your finger tips. The shimmer shade is absolutely stunning and certainly gave me a more “wide awake” look!

Primer Plus+ is pretty amazing, it made my skin feel extremely soft and gave my complexion such a healthy glow. The primer is super lightweight and it’s a pale nude shade when you first apply but quickly adapts to most skin tones. It contains oak extract, plus it’s anti pollution and is perfume free, which is great for my sensitive skin.

My Favourite Mascara gives your lashes a wonderful, natural, everyday look. The large fibre brush helps to lengthen and define each lash, yet adding loads of volume without going all clumpy. It’s smudge proof, it lasted all day and still looked amazing when I got home, even after my eyes were watering thanks to hay fever!

These products are all available from Superdrug, either in store or online, if you fancy getting your hands on GOSH’s new collection!

Have you bought anything from the new collection? What would be your favourite item?

*These items were sent to me by GOSH but all opinions are my own.
