Leighton Denny Nails Modern Bohemia Collection

As soon as we’re into those first few weeks of Autumn I love to switch up my nail colours and start wearing much deeper, richer shades. If I’m honest, I’m not great at applying nail polish. For years I had gels to save me the hassle of reapplying chipped nail polish and over time it ruined the condition of my nails, and was costing me a fortune every time I had them done. Now I love spending time painting my own nails, I find it therapeutic, plus it’s so much easier if I get bored with whatever shade I’m wearing  or I see a brand bring out a new colour nail polish and it makes less of a dent on my bank balance!

Having said that, I expect an awful lot from a nail polish, I can’t sit still long enough so it needs to dry pretty quickly, it needs to be easy to apply and last longer than a few days. I don’t want to have chipped nails on show, so if I have to keep reapplying it every 5 minutes the bottle’s going to sit in a drawer and never get used.

Leighton Denny Nails Modern Bohemia Collection

I have quite a large collection of nail polishes which includes just about every colour under the sun. I was extremely excited to try the new Modern Bohemia Collection from Leighton Denny Nails* which includes 5 brand new shades for Autumn 2018. A few weeks back I was lucky enough to be sent 3 colours to try, I think you’ll agree they are absolutely stunning.

The Modern Bohemia Collection is inspired by the bohemian free spirit and are rich in colour, resembling luxe fabric, echoing confidence and individuality. Each polish cost £12 and in just two coats you have beautiful glossy nails. The shades look super rich and dries really quickly, which is great if you’re in a hurry or impatient like me and don’t want to smudge your nails. The soft, flat brush adapts to the shape of your nail, making it glide on really smoothly and doesn’t leave any streaks.

These polishes last incredibly well, my nails were still chip free after a week, but I’m more impressed that after two weeks the polish on my toe nails still looked as though I’d applied it that day. Fantastic, if it can survive me knocking into everything and scraping my nails against stuff, then it can survive anything.

I’m extremely impressed with the quality of Leighton Denny Nails but the Modern Bohemia Collection is my favourite from the brand so far. I’ve totally fallen in love with these shades, Bohemian Spirit (grey), Vintage Chic (purple) and Eclectic Vibe (green). They look amazing with all my new Autumn clothes, almost like an accessory on their own. If you do change your mind and fancy wearing a different shade the polish comes off easily with your usual nail polish remover soaked on a cotton pad. No faffing required.

Leighton Denny are fast becoming one of my favourite brands for nail polishes. I definitely need to add a few more shades to my collection.

A selection of beauty products

I completely missed the end of last month to get this post published, so here are some of the things I’ve loved during August and a bit of September. I was actually quite proud of myself for typing up 5 blog posts in a week, after that I needed some time to myself and catch up with everything else going on in my life. I’ve been helping my Aunt unpack boxes from a house move, being the nosey person I am I had a quick peek at her makeup collection, or rather lack of it. If anyone needs a wish list it’s my Aunt, so we’re going shopping next week and I am spending someone else’s money for a change!

urban decay naked heat palette

I’ve had the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette sitting in my drawer for a few weeks before I started using it, but I knew I’d love it the moment I saw it. The shades are absolutely stunning and I’ve been able to create so many different looks with it. It’s one of those eyeshadow palettes that people would assume was only for a summer bronzed look, but I think these colours would look amazing during Autumn too. I flippin love this eyeshadow palette, especially the shades Lumbre, Layenne and En Fuego.

barry m sunset gel nail polish

I’ve been obsessed with Barry M Sunset Gel Nail Polish in the shade Fushsia Generation, it’s a gorgeous pinky plum shade and is the perfect colour for in between seasons. Barry M nail polishes always apply really easily and last for ages. I fell in love with the original Barry M Matte Me Up Lip kit, so when I saw they brought out a metallic version I knew I had to get my hands on one. I’ve been using the shade Allure quite a lot over the past few weeks, which again is a gorgeous pinky plum colour. These lip kits are amazing, the applicator makes it easy to apply and the colour just glides on, it doesn’t feel sticky or cling to any dry areas and the colour lasts pretty much all day.

jurlique rosewater balancing mist, zoella cream scrub

I adore Zoella’s Jelly and Gelato range, so much more than any of the others she’s released. The pastel and gold packaging is simply stunning and it smells divine. It has fresh, floral scent with hints of Elderflower and Pomegranate, it’s such a pretty fragrance that is perfect for everyday and not overpowering. The cream scrub wasn’t like any of the thick grainy ones I’ve used before, it’s more of a balm that you melt on your body and leaves my skin feeling super soft. Even my other half liked the smell, so it’s got to be good!

I’m obsessed with anything that has a rose fragrance so I’ve loved using Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist after I’ve cleansed my skin, and it smells incredible. This facial mist did leave my skin feeling soft, although I still need to use my daily  moisturiser. Instead I’ve been using it more as a toner to give my skin that wonderful refreshing feeling. It’s also brilliant to use during the day when I’m not wearing any makeup and feel as though I want to give my skin a bit of a wake up!

wet brush, Zoella cream scrub, barry m sunset gel nail polish

There’s nothing worse than trying to drag a comb through wet knotted hair, I’ve tried various different brushes which seemed to do more damage than good on my long hair. I was originally looking for a brush to carry in my bag for when I got caught in a rain shower, but this Wet Brush has been so good I’ve been using it to comb through towel dried hair before I style it. It’s so gentle and combs through any knots or tangles without pulling, plus it can be used on wet or dry hair.

milk and honey by rupi kaur

My favourite book (if I can call it that?) from last month has to be Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. It’s collection of poetry about survival through love, loss, abuse and violence. I could relate to this book in so many ways, it’s hard to explain, but i really needed to read these poems right now. Memories of personal experiences have been rearing their ugly head again and this book helped me get through.

My feet are the one area of my body that I seem to neglect the most. After months of wearing thick tights and boots I wanted my feet to be in better condition for wearing my new  sandals* from Vionic. They were definitely in need of little pampering. With Summer just around the corner I thought I’d share my tips on how to get your feet ready for the warmer months with my At Home Pedicure.

Foot Scrub

I’ll start off by using Bare Foot Peppermint and Plum Foot Scrub to help get rid of  any dry flaky skin, which I’m sure you wouldn’t want on show in your summer sandals. This one smells divine!

Foot Soak

I’ve been using a foot pack from Beautifully Scrumptious, they fit over your feet like a pair of socks. They are enriched with Tea Tree, Peppermint and Vitamin E to help dry, rough skin and cracked heels. It looks a bit strange at first sitting there for 20 minutes with a foot pack on, but believe me it feels amazing.

Moisturise

I use a deep moisturiser, like Bare Foot Lavender and Mint Foot Cream, to give intense hydration for extremely dry legs and feet, it is enriched with Tea Tree Oil to help soothe tired, aching feet, whilst the smell of Lavender will help your whole body feel relaxed.

File and Polish

I can’t stand wearing open toe sandals without having my nails painted, so the final step for getting my feet Summer ready is to give my nails a quick file to give them a nice shape and paint them in my favourite nail polish, at the moment I’m wearing a peach shade called Bohemian Gypsy by Itsy Nails, followed by a top coat to make my nail colour last a little longer. I’ve also been putting on a cuticle oil just before I go to bed.

Having wide feet I’ve always had trouble finding summer sandals that not only fit and feel comfortable, but that look stylish with any outfit. These faux leather, black strappy sandals* from Vionic are good quality sandals and fit my feet perfectly, they are so comfortable it actually feels like I’m wearing slippers. These summer sandals look feminine enough to be worn with my summer dresses or casual jeans.

Years of wearing high heels and ill fitting shoes haven’t done my feet any good at all, it wasn’t until I had my feet properly measured last year that I discovered I was a size smaller than the shoes I had been wearing, just because I had wide feet. I searched around for a pair of wide fitting summer sandals but most of them were unflattering, so you can imagine my delight when I tried on these sandals* from Vionic for the very first time. I instantly fell in love with them.

They have been designed with the help of a Podiatrist. the foot bed is shaped so it will hold your foot nicely in place so they wont slip about. It also helps prevent pains in your feet, knees and back The straps have a velcro fastening meaning I was able to fit them to just the right size around my ankle without any pinching. These sandals are lightweight so they won’t tire your legs out but still give your feet the support they need. They are the kind of footwear you need if you’re going to be on your feet all day, great for long walks in the woods or along the beach.

I’ve already worn my sandals so many times, they looked beautiful with a knee length floral dress and my denim jacket when I popped into town on a shopping trip with the girls, I had quite a few compliments from my friends asking me where they were from. They are so adorable that I’ve worn them with a long maxi dress when I went to my neighbours garden party and still looked pretty when I styled them with my jeans and a stripy t-shirt for a Sunday afternoon stroll.

They look fabulous with any summer outfit, so I know what sandals I’ll be wearing on my day trip to Brighton in a few months time!

What are your go to shoes during the summer months?
