Jane Iredale: The Skincare Makeup

Summer days maybe coming to an end but we can still make the most of them with our beauty routines. That feeling of fresh, dewy skin and not being caked in a layer of heavy makeup. You may have only spent a few minutes on your makeup look, but you’re left feeling pulled together and ready for the day ahead.

Jane Iredale have recently launched in the UK and their makeup is fully mineral based, each item is kind to your skin as well as looking great when you’re wearing it. They have an excellent range of shades in each product, which includes BB Creams, Foundations, Tinted Moisturisers, Lipstick, Eyeshadows and Blushers. Even their concealers are mineral based so your skin will reap the benefits on those days you need a little extra coverage. Mineral makeup is better for your skin as it’s non-comedogenic, creating a barrier on the surface and allowing your skin to breathe rather than clogging up the pores. It’ll help protect your skin against pollution and the minerals include active ingredients that will truly benefit your skin.

Sound good so far?

Jane Iredale: The Skincare Makeup

I’ve been testing four products from Jane Iredale and first up we have a PurePressed Eyeshadow Trio in shade Brown Sugar. The palette includes three colours which complement one another well and are highly pigmented, they can also be applied wet or dry, depending on the look you’re going for. The soft creamy eyeshadows blend together beautifully and last for ages with no creasing. The eyeshadows are full of ingredients that will benefit your skin, even those with sensitive skin like me.

The PurePressed Blush in shade Barely Rose, a browny pink colour, is so subtle and natural it’s perfect for everyday use. This has become my go-to blusher on those days when I don’t want to wear too much makeup. Just a sweep of this blusher gives my cheeks a natural flush of colour. Again, it blends in beautifully over the top of a BB Cream and lasts pretty much all day.

Jane Iredale: The Skincare Makeup

PureMoist Lipstick gives a pop of colour while hydrating and protecting your lips just like your favourite lip balm. These come in a vast range of shades. I found it so hard to choose but eventually went for the colour Renee, a beautiful pinky rose. It’s the kind of lipstick I can just swipe on with a touch of mascara and BB Cream and feel made up without having to spend hours getting ready. These balmy lipsticks are highly pigmented and super long lasting, they are packed with vitamins, Orange Peel Wax and Moringa Butter to soften, hydrate and protect the delicate lip area. I don’t normally say this about a lipstick but they smell divine thanks to the Blackberry extracts. I must say, I absolutely love the sleek gold packaging, I think it looks extremely classy and is slim enough to fit into even the smallest of clutch bags.

Jane Iredale have just launched a new range of Triple Luxe Long Lasting Naturally Moist Lipsticks in 15 different shades, there’s even one called Sharon (maybe I should have chosen that one!) but I’m officially in love with the shade Tania, a natural pinky peach. The creamy formula gives a matte finish and is super hydrating and won’t dry out the lips. The lipstick sits comfortably on the lips and is extremely long lasting, managing to stay on well through lunch and an afternoon coffee break. That’s pretty good going in my book. It contains Moringa Oil, a rich antioxidant which will nourish and soothe your lips and a unique blend of waxes to protect and hydrate your lips. I’m even one of those people who get excited about the magnetic click when you close the lid. At £24 they are on the pricier side but oh so worth it, I will have to treat myself to a couple of darker shades just in time for Autumn.

Jane Iredale: The Skincare Makeup

Jane Iredale products are also cruelty free. This is a brand I couldn’t recommend enough, I absolutely love the makeup I’ve been using and I’m so glad I came across them on social media. You can learn more about Jane Iredale on their website and Instagram.

Have you tried mineral makeup before? How did you get on using it?

Summer Skincare Favourites

Every season I get a lot more excited to see what new makeup products have been released than I do skincare, I have a slight weakness for highlighters and lipsticks. As a blogger I feel I should be trying new beauty products more than I do, but when I find something I absolutely love I tend to stick to it and shy away from testing too many skincare items, I know it can’t be good for my skin. However I wanted to talk through some of my current skincare favourites for the summer.

Summer Skincare Favourites

Cleansers

Boots No7 Revitalising Hot Cloth Cleanser – Whatever time of year it is I need a hydrating cleanser to take off my makeup and I’m absolutely loving this one from No7. I’ve repurchased it so many times in the last few years and it’s become my holy grail cleanser. It’s super creamy and doesn’t dry out my skin, yet still removes every scrap of makeup. I also use this to cleanse my skin in the morning, removing it with the damp muslin cloth helps to gently exfoliate my skin, leaving me feeling fresh faced and ready to apply my moisturiser.

Boots No7 Revitalising Micellar Cleansing Water – At the end of the day I like to double cleanse, especially if I’m been into town or on the train to London. This  one is gentle and doesn’t cause me any irritation, I just pump some onto a large cotton pad and sweep it all over my face to remove the top layer of makeup. Even doing this makes me feel slightly fresher.

Moisturisers

Decleor Prolagene Lift and Firm Day Cream – Even during the warmer month I still find my skin needs a rich moisturiser to stop it drying out, especially if I’ve been out in the sun. This one from Decleor is a thick cream yet it feels light and fluffy on my skin and massages in beautifully without leaving it feeling greasy. It’s super nourishing, helps get rid of any dry patches and leaves my skin feeling really hydrated. My complexion looks wonderful and healthy, and feels comfortable all day. If I’m going to be having my photo taken for my blog then I’ll make sure to apply Kathleen Skincare Amazing White Illuminating Serum, I have my full review here if you’d like to know why it’s also one of my skincare essentials.

REN Perfect Canvas Skin Enhancing Serum Primer* – I wasn’t too sure about this serum at first as the website states it gives a matte finish, and normally I’m all about the glow. It’s designed to be applied after using a moisturiser, almost like a makeup primer. I’ve used it mainly down the centre of my face and across my forehead, which is an area that tends to get quite shiny and where my foundation needs to be touched up. I’m not sure how it can be both matte and glowing at the same time, but some how it works. My skin didn’t feel dry and tight, plus my makeup stayed put just that little bit longer. I don’t usually believe a beauty product can completely reduce signs of ageing but believe me ladies, if you have any fine lines or wrinkles then you’ll want to try this product. I have a few around my chin and this almost made them disappear, now I’m not just saying that because I was kindly sent this product, if I genuinely love something then I will be totally honest about it. The serum is full of bio-actives, silicone-free and your skin is smoothed, lifted and naturally filled, making it the perfect base to apply makeup.

Kathleen Skincare Caviar Enriched Eye Cream – I started using this about a month ago, applying in both morning and evening. I’ve been really impressed with how incredibly hydrating it is on the delicate skin around the eyes. For years I suffered with dark circles that even the thickest concealer couldn’t hide. This is better than any eye cream I’ve used before, my eyes look brighter and more awake, the skin feels extremely hydrated and the puffiness has really started to improve. As I’ve gotten older I also worry about fine lines and wrinkles, This eye cream contains 23 natural and marine extracts which specifically help to firm and lift and reduce any signs of ageing.

Weekly Skincare Treats

Decleor Aromessence Neroli Amara Oil –  I love giving my skin an extra treat a few times a week and I find using a facial oil really helps give me a glowy complexion. I’ve been using this one from Decleor and my skin feels extremely soft and genuinely looks as though I’ve been to the beauty salon. This oil also smells incredible and not only are the essential oils beneficial for my skin but they help to relax my mind. Anything that’s left I will massage into my hands and cuticles to give them some extra nourishment too.

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask – For a really deep clean I love to apply this face mask when I want my skin to be looking it’s best. It’s extremely gentle on my skin and doesn’t cause any irritation. I usually apply it before getting into the bath so it has time to get to work, afterwards my skin feels extremely soft, hydrated and looks positively glowing.

Handbag essentials

The Body Shop Rose Dewy Glow Face Mist – This has been an absolute life saver during the extreme hot weather recently. A quick spritz of this feels so refreshing and also helps to freshen up my makeup. It also comes in different fragrances if you’re not keen on the smell of rose, personally it’s one of my favourite scents.

Dior Lip Glow –  I’ve been wearing the shade 001 a few times just on it’s own for a natural look, It’s a really pretty, pink colour that changes depending on your own natural lip colour. It tints your lips whilst treating them, leaves them incredibly soft and looking slightly fuller and plumper. This lip balm is also great for priming my lips to stop them drying out when I’m wearing a matte lipstick.

L’Occitane Lavender Hand Cream –  One thing I can’t stand is the feeling of dry skin on my hands, I have a hand cream everywhere in the house and I’ll make sure to carry one in my handbag too. I’m currently using this one from the Fashion Mumblr X L’Occitane Travel Set as it’s the perfect size to carry with me during the day. The lavender fragrance makes it smell incredibly relaxing, the cream doesn’t leave my hands feeling sticky, it’s really nourishing and keeps my hands feeling super soft.

Body Care

Boots No7 Gorgeous Glow Body Scrub – I like to use a body scrub before I apply a fake tan. This one from No7  is incredibly gentle with soft grains in a thick cream, It’s enriched with Almond Oil, Argan Oil and Rosehip seeds, I can’t describe the scent other than it has a fresh, soapy smell. It leaves my skin feeling so smooth and removes any dry patches, ready to apply my fake tan.

Kathleen Tranquil Fields Body Oil* – This wonderful massage oil contains Lavender Essential Oil, Almond Oil, Rosehip Oil and Vitamin E which help to nourish the skin and keep it feeling silky smooth, even those stubborn areas like knees, elbows and ankles. It’s designed to be used on wet skin, straight after a bath or shower. I love that moment when I add a few drops onto the palms of my hand and simply inhale the relaxing scents and I immediately feel a million times calmer. I’ll leave my full review Here if you’d like to find out more.

Palmers Coconut Oil Body Lotion – This rich lotion feels so luxurious and smells divine. It contains natural fatty acids which help to keep the skin looking radiant and healthy. My skin feels incredibly soft and moisturised, luckily I bought 3 bottles of this when they were on offer in Boots.

Tanning

Vita Liberata Phenomenal 2 – 3 week Tan Mouse – Now I’m no expert when it comes to fake tanning but I do prefer doing it myself at home instead of going to a salon. I’ve been using this one from Vita Liberata in the shade medium, I have just ordered myself a full size bottle after trying out the mini version. I apply it at night so it develops over night into a gorgeous colour that’s a couple shades darker than my natural skin tone. I find it doesn’t make my skin feel dry like some fake tans have done. It’s completely organic, so you’re not putting anything harmful on your skin and can be used on the face. However, being the sensitive thing I am I’ve been applying a thin layer of Charlotte Tilbury Overnight Bronze And Glow Mask all over my face and neck a couple of times a week to give my complexion a holiday look.

I hope you enjoyed having a look into my beauty cabinet and seeing what products I’m using this summer.

Fashion Mumblr X L'Occitane

Fashion Mumblr (aka Josie) is one of my favourite YouTubers and has given me loads of inspiration when it comes to beauty and fashion. Many a time have I have gone out and bought an item of skincare because she has featured it in one of her vlogs and I trust her opinion when it comes to putting anything on my skin. Imagine my delight when I saw Josie had teamed up with L’Occitane and put together 5 of her favourite products from their collection, all neatly packaged in a beautiful cream vanity case.

The set contains mini versions of each product and it comes just in time for your summer holiday, and believe me I cannot wait to start using everything. It retails for £25 (worth£35) and is absolutely beautiful. I think Josie has done an amazing job putting together this collection. Even if you’re not going away at the moment, it’s the perfect way to try some of the products before buying a full sized version. I would imagine if you’ve clicked on the title of this post then you’re already a huge fan of Josie, like I am, or you love using L’Occitane.

Let me talk you through the 5 beauty products Josie has chosen for her collaboration with L’Occitane.

Fashion Mumblr X L'Occitane

Like Josie, I first fell in love with L’Occitane when I was given a set of 5 mini tubes of hand cream for Christmas, my favourite from that set was a rose fragrance one. I was really pleased to find a tube of Lavender Hand Cream inside the Fashion Mumblr X L’Occitane set as the smell of lavender always makes me feel relaxed. The cream is thick and leaves your hands feeling really soft, it’s the perfect size for popping in your handbag.

Fashion Mumblr X L'Occitane

I always apply moisturiser to my body after a bath or shower and this Pivoine Flora Body Milk is just perfect. It smells absolutely divine,it absorbs really quickly which is great if you want to get dressed straight away, and it leaves your body feeling silky smooth.

Fashion Mumblr X L'Occitane

Oh just the thought of using this Almond Shower Oil makes me want to jump right in the shower now, it smells dreamy. The oil changes to a soft foam as you lather it into your body, making the whole experience feel a little more indulgent. It leaves your skin feeling hydrated so it’s ideal if you’ve been out in the sun all day on your holiday.

Fashion Mumblr X L'Occitane

As much as I love wearing makeup, I enjoy having a mini pampering session when it comes to taking it all off at the end of the day. The Immortelle Cleansing Oil is a gentle, silky oil that removes every scrap of makeup and dirt, making your skin feel soft and completely nourished. It has a wonderful calming feeling which is just what your skin needs after a day in the sun.

Fashion Mumblr X L'Occitane

I was so excited to see a mini pot of Immortelle Precious Cream inside this set. It’s literally pure luxury. The last thing I want when I’m away is to neglect my skincare routine so this little pot is perfect to fit in my travel bag. It’s super creamy and leaves the skin feeling silky soft and nourished. Wherever you’re travelling to, this cream will also protect your skin against the environment. What more could you ask for?

Fashion Mumblr X L'Occitane

I can honestly say the Fashion Mumblr X L’Occitane Travel Vanity Set is absolutely gorgeous and Josie has chosen 5 amazing products. Even the vanity case is a handy size to use after your holiday, it’s perfect for a weekend break, staying at a friends house or just to keep a few beauty bits in at home. It’s available via their website if you fancy treating yourself just in time for your holiday. Be quick though, before they all sell out.

Have you tried anything from L’Occitane? What beauty product is a must have for you on your holiday?

Sunkissed Vitamin C Serum

I’m very much into my skincare these days, much more than I used to be. Every morning and evening I make sure I do a full skincare routine, spending at least 10 minutes cleansing, toning and moisturising, however tired I am I make sure I get rid of any of the days makeup and finish off with a serum and night cream that will really benefit my skin over night.

I’ve been using a serum for a number of years and have really noticed a difference in my skin’s texture and appearance. It improved so much that there are some days I go without makeup and know that I won’t have to worry about dry patches or blemishes like I used to. Using a serum has helped with a whole host of skin problems from brightening up my tired skin, to giving it some much needed hydration.
Another area I worry about are the signs of ageing. I know that’s something I can’t stop (oh if only!) but by using a serum it has helped with any fine lines I do have.

Skinkissed Vitamin C Serum

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been applying Skinkissed Vitamin C Serum which promises to plump and hydrate dull skin, reduce any wrinkles, remove acne, and leave your skin feeling soft and blemish free. I love that it’s 100% natural and not been tested on animals. If that’s not enough to make you want to give it a try, 20% of all purchases go to a a charity for children with mental health problems.

The serums includes Rose Water, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerine and Marine Collagen. So there’s a lot of good stuff inside one tiny bottle and are enough to get me all excited, that’s for sure. I love anything that promises to give me a youthful glow and and believe me, you don’t know how many times I’ve got in a paddy over fine lines around my eyes. I was interested to see if the Skinkissed Vitamin C Serum lived up to my high expectations.

Skinkissed Vitamin C Serum

Skinkissed Vitamin C Serum

Sadly it didn’t.

Ok, so that’s a bit unfair because it did give my skin a slight radiant glow and I’m definitely all about looking healthy. The website states that you may have a slight reaction during the first week of using the serum. Luckily my skin was fine and there was no signs of irritation, so that’s a bonus. Unfortunately it’s quite a thin runny consistency and my skin felt drier after using it. I think it will be absolutely fine if you have normal skin type, but I have naturally dry skin and need a serum that’s a bit richer. It didn’t improve my skin’s texture or fine lines around my eyes but it certainly didn’t leave it looking as though I’d not used any serum at all. So it’s not all bad.

I love the black and gold packaging, which would look very classy on anyone’s dressing table. The pipet applicator makes it easy to use, simply add 10 to 15 drops onto the palm of your hand and smooth over your face, neck and lips in the morning and evening.

Price wise, at £29.95 I do think it’s a little on the expensive side for a 20ml bottle, considering they recommend you use quite a large amount twice a day. Like I said, it may work wonders on someone else, everyone is different, but sadly it didn’t for me.

Skinkissed Vitamin C Serum

Skinkissed Vitamin C Serum* can be bought from their website if you do fancy giving it a try for yourself.

February Favourites

Hope you’ve all had a good February? It seems ages since I wrote a Favourites post, probably because I got last months out really early and January is like the longest month ever. I’ve been trying out loads of new beauty products, I love spending an hour or two at my dressing table, playing around with makeup looks or styling my hair differently. I find it really therapeutic.

My February Favourites are mainly beauty items but there are a few random bits at the end. Let me know if you’ve tried any of the things I’ve loved this month.

February Favourites

Thanks to American English Seaberry Dry Oil  my hair has been frizz free and feels incredibly soft, it’s also given my hair a gorgeous shine. I’ve been using it as a heat protecting spray while using my straighteners or hair dryer, or on it’s own to make my hair look super sleek  This stuff is amazing and smells absolutely divine! It’s cruelty free and vegan too, so it’s suitable for everyone.

February Favourites

What can I say about the Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Volume II other than it is stunning! There are four beautiful highlighting shades: Candlelight, Spotlight, Skylight and Daylight, the two lighter shades are just perfect to use as a highlighter on my skin tone. The darker two I’ve used on my eyes if I want to add a touch of sparkle. They are incredibly pigmented, so don’t go overboard like I did at first, and the powder is super soft. I’m so glad I took the risk buying it from the Tarte website as I didn’t pay any international shipping, and this is going to get a lot of use throughout the year.

The Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape has to be my favourite concealer, ever. It has amazing cover and conceals my dark circles and any blemishes incredibly well, I love that it has a huge sponge applicator so it’s super easy to use with just one swipe. I honestly didn’t think I’d love it quite as much as I do because it’s quite a heavy formula, but it doesn’t crease or dry out my skin at all. It’s worth every single penny!

February Favourites

I’ve loved using the Touch In Sol Flawless Skin Top Coat which is perfect for a natural, flawless looking complexion. I’ll add a few drops and blend it in with my fingers, as it reacts better to the warmth of my skin and I’ll get a more natural, glowy finish. The great thing about the Skin Top Coat is you don’t need separate products, it’s a three in one base: BB Cream, foundation and powder. It’s a lightweight liquid which doesn’t clog up your skin. I think this is going to be the one to use during the summer months, plus you can build it up to get the coverage you want and it doesn’t look cakey or too heavy.

February Favourites

Anything that promises to instantly boost the skin and I’m at the checkout before you can say Pixi Beauty. I’ve absolutely loved using their Skintreats Rose Flash Balm as a primer before doing my makeup and twice a week I’ve applied a thicker layer which acts as a mask, then just gently wiping it off after about five minutes. It contains rose extract and rose flower water, which are incredibly gentle on my skin, I know some people are sensitive to both of these. The balm is oil free and glides on beautifully without leaving any greasy residue, making my skin feel ultra soft and hydrated. It’s a great multi-purpose product that’s the perfect compact size for popping in your overnight bag.

February Favourites

I’ve totally fallen in love with the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. The bottle looks simple and clean, and has a easy to use pump, with a lockable cap. It’s one of those products that works on everything, and yes I do mean including stubborn eye makeup, it’s extremely gentle, so you can use it to take every last scrap of makeup off. It has a jelly like texture, which I found a bit strange at first, at the end of the day I’ve been massaging it into dry skin and it simply melts off any makeup, removing every bit of dirt and grime. It didn’t leave my skin feeling dry in the slightest. I’ll leave the link to my Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser review if you want to find out more.

February Favourites

I couldn’t let February pass without mentioning Valentines’s Day. We stayed at home, ordered a take away, opened a bottle of Prosecco, and watched a film, just the two of us. Adrian very kindly bought me this adorable Unicorn mug from Vinegar Hill in Hitchin, which I absolutely love! Isn’t it just the cutest thing ever. It now sits on my shelf alongside my collection of other cute, pink mugs,

February Favourites

The book I’ve enjoyed reading is 100 Pieces Of Me by Lucy Dillon, it’s a bitter sweet story that made me want to sort my life out and enjoy every single day the best I can, as if it were my last. It made me think about who was important in my life and all the things around me, were they part of who I am now or was I just holding on to bad memories and things I didn’t need anymore. It made me think about everything and everyone I take for granted, and anything that gave me negative thoughts, when I could have been surrounding myself with people and belongings that filled my life with joy. I have to say, this book probably had a bigger impact on me than any of the non fiction self care books I’ve read.

What’s the one thing you’ve done during February that you’ve really enjoyed?  it can be anything at all.
