The Serums You Need To Know About From Freshly Cosmetics

Around this time of year my skin needs something a little richer over night and I’ll usually add a facial oil into my evening skincare routine. I don’t know about you but I always find massaging an oil into my skin at the end of the day incredibly relaxing as well as keeping my skin hydrated. Going from a warm, centrally heated house to the cold air outside can play havoc with my skin and make it feel drier than normal.

I featured My 3 Winter Beauty Essentials from Freshly Cosmetics last year on my blog, so I was over the moon when they contacted me again to ask if I’d like to try out some more products. Freshly Cosmetics is a much sought after beauty brand who make skin, body and hair care which is 100% natural, suitable for vegans and gentle enough for sensitive skin. As well as making sure your skin looks healthy, the people at Freshly Cosmetics also care about the environment by using sustainable packaging which is all recyclable.

I chose two products from their best selling range and here’s how I got on after trying them both for a few weeks.

Red Velvet Oil Serum

I love the rich velvety texture of this facial serum, it feels incredibly luxurious. It’s both an oil and a serum and it gets deep into your skin to really soften and hydrate. It contains a blend of natural oils and active ingredients including Evening Primrose, Rosehip, Chia, Virgin Marula and Meadowfoam Oils, all having excellent skincare benefits.

I’ve been using it as the final step in my skincare routine for about two weeks now and I must say I’m pretty impressed. The applicator makes it simple to use and a little goes a long way, I apply a couple of drops to my palms and gently pat it all over my face. It has a warm fruity fragrance which doesn’t linger around too long and even though it’s a rich luxurious oil, it absorbs quickly without sitting too heavy on your skin.

The following morning my skin looked glowing and radiant, the oil had helped reduce any redness that usually appears on the tops of my cheeks. The photo below was taken after I’d been using the Red Velvet Oil after a week, I’m not wearing any makeup and I’ve not used a filter. My skin just looks so healthy, I’m literally obsessed with this oil.

It’s perfect for this time of year when my skin needs a little more nourishment and hydration. The wonderful blend of natural ingredients help to reduce signs of aging, inflammation, redness, spots and scars, and leaves your skin with a soft, velvety texture. Adding this into my skincare feels like a real pampering moment, it leaves my skin looking radiant all day just as if I’d had a facial that morning. It has all the benefits from the oils which truly nourish your skin, yet it has the feeling of a lightweight serum. This is definitely a beauty product that needs to be in my collection from now on.

Hyper-Concentrate Eye Contour Serum

The Eye Contour Serum comes in a tiny bottle, again with a dropper for easy application. I use the eye serum at the start of my skincare routine and gently dab one drop under and around each eye using my ring finger. It has a very thin consistency but feels silky on the skin and dries really quickly. I love the cooling sensation which helped reduce the slight puffiness under my eyes caused by a few late nights. I was amazed at how my dark circles had disappeared after only a week of using the eye contour serum. The delicate skin around my eyes also feels extremely soft and thoroughly hydrated, I love how bright my eye area looks. I find that makeup goes on much easier and I only need the slightest amount.

This eye contour serum includes 9 natural technologies to help fight the signs of aging around the eyes and natural active ingredients to treat dark circles, help to firm eyelids and minimise expression lines. It also fights the loss of elasticity, puffiness, uneven pigmentation and dark spots.

I absolutely love the eye serum, especially during my morning skincare routine as it makes me look as though I’ve actually had a full 8 hours sleep. This may only be a small bottle but it will last a while as you only need one drop each time. I shall definitely make sure I’m topped up with another one for when this bottle runs out.

Overall, I’m super impressed with both these serums and the differences they’ve made to my skin’s appearance. I’m so glad I discovered Freshly Cosmetics and have loved all the products I’ve used so far. I’m heading over to their website to see what other skin, hair and body treats they have and I recommend you do too.

Have you tried anything from Freshly Cosmetics before? Do you use an oil or serum during your evening skincare routine?

Kathleen Collagen Mask

Kathleen has been a favourite skincare brand of mine for a couple of years and I already use a number of their products. I got rather excited when I heard they were launching a range of face masks and couldn’t wait to try one for myself. The range includes a Collagen Mask, Bright Mask, Dead Sea Mud Clay Mask and Deep Pore Treatment Mask, all having different benefits depending on your skin type.

I’ve recently got into the habit of popping on a sheet mask in the morning. I’d much rather be relaxing with a gorgeous smelling face mask working it’s magic while indulging in a luxurious bath. With the stresses of daily life I’m making a conscious effort to look after myself better and Kathleen’s Collagen Mask is the perfect addition to my pamper routine.

Kathleen is a premium natural skincare brand and based in the UK. Their products aren’t tested on animals and completely natural and free from Parabens, Alcohol and other nasty toxins.

I had no doubts as to which of the four new delicious face masks I would try and opted for the Collagen Mask* because, you know, being a 30 plus blogger I need all the help I can get. It’s suitable for sensitive skin with large pores and signs of aging, so at first glance, it ticked all the boxes. Before I’d put the mask anywhere near my face I noticed the most amazing smell coming from the jar thanks to the mix of Bergamot, Frankincense, and Geranium Essential Oils. They not only have wonderful skincare benefits but the aromatherapy oils also help calm and relax your mood.

About The Mask

  • It’s infused with Retinol, which helps to stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of existing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Protects against future signs of aging as Retinol tells your skin cells to behave like healthy, younger cells
  • Deeply nourishing, plant-based collagen treatment is formulated with essential oils, antioxidants, and vitamins to restore hydration and suppleness while reducing visible signs of aging.
  • Vitamin E, Calendula and Blueberries create an antioxidant cocktail that treats skin damage, leaving you with beautiful, healthy-looking skin.
  • Purifies skin and firms skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines
  • Also contains Shea Butter, Rose Water and Sunflower Oil

How To Use

First I cleansed my skin and applied a thin layer of the Collagen Mask. The instructions say to leave it on for between 10 and 15 minutes, which I think is a good length of time to relax with a face mask. Inhaling the dreamy aromatherapy fragrance was a wonderful experience while I lay soaking in the bath. After 15 minutes I gently removed the mask using a damp muslin cloth and rinsed my face thoroughly to ensure their wasn’t any residue left on my skin.

My Thoughts

I really LOVE this face mask from Kathleen. The texture is lightweight and feels soothing on my skin, you do only need a light layer as little goes a long way. I’ve applied it twice since it arrived about a week ago, I have sensitive skin and I’m pleased to say there wasn’t any irritation after I’d used it. The mask definitely leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth and my complexion looking brighter. During the colder months my skin can look a bit dull but this mask certainly gave it a boost. The fine lines around my chin and around eyes were less visible, which I’m so happy about. Some masks have left my skin feeling tight after use but with this one my skin felt nourished and hydrated.

Would I purchase the Kathleen Collagen Face Mask in the future? Yes absolutely, without a doubt, possibly trying the Bright Mask. I love that I really noticed a difference straight away in my skins appearance compared to other face masks I’ve used. It costs £28 for a 60ml jar, you only need a tiny amount so it will last quite a while. I wasn’t only left with healthy, firmer looking skin, I felt totally relaxed thanks to the divine fragrance of essential oils.

If you would like to find out which of the four new face masks from Kathleen is best for your skin type, head over to their website for more information.

My Current Skincare Routine

When I find a skincare product I absolutely love I tend to stick to it and shy away from testing too many other items. I know what works well on my skin, also what keeps it hydrated and glowing. I thought I’d share my current skincare routine and favourite products, there are a lot to get through so I’ll jump straight in.

Cleansers

Boots No7 Revitalising Hot Cloth Cleanser – Whatever time of year it is I need a hydrating cleanser to take off my makeup. I love this one from No7 and I’ve repurchased it so many times over the years. It’s super creamy and doesn’t dry out my skin, yet still removes every scrap of dirt and makeup. I also use this to cleanse my skin in the morning, removing it with the damp muslin cloth helps to gently exfoliate my skin, leaving me feeling fresh faced and ready to apply my moisturiser.

Boots No7 Revitalising Micellar Cleansing Water – At the end of the day I like to double cleanse, especially if I’ve been into London or worn a lot of makeup that day. This  one is gentle and doesn’t cause any irritation, I pump some onto a large cotton pad and sweep it all over my face to remove the top layer of makeup. Even doing this makes me feel slightly fresher.

Toner

Pixi Skintreats Retinol Tonic – After cleansing I love to use a toner and this one from Pixi ticks all the boxes. It contains Jasmine Flower which not only has great health benefits for your skin but it smells amazing. The Retinol helps rejuvenate your skin to give a natural glow, antioxidants help reduce fine lines and Peptides firm skin & boost collagen production. It’s the best skin tonic I’ve used in a long time and I won’t be giving it up anytime soon.

Moisturisers

Decleor Prolagene Lift and Firm Day Cream – I find my skin needs a rich moisturiser to stop it drying out. This one from Decleor is a thick cream yet it feels light and fluffy on my skin and massages in beautifully without leaving it feeling greasy. It’s super nourishing, helps get rid of any dry patches and leaves my skin feeling really hydrated. My complexion looks wonderful and healthy, and feels comfortable all day.

Lancome Anti Stress Moisturising Night Cream – I’ve always used a night cream before I go to bed and this one from Lancome gives my skin a boost while I sleep. It reduces signs of fatigue and leaves my complexion looking like I’ve had a fabulous nights sleep. It’s incredibly moisturising and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Serums and Eye Cream

In the morning I love to apply Kathleen Skincare Amazing White Illuminating Serum*, I’ve written a full review here if you’d like to know why it’s one of my skincare essentials.

Caudalie Firming Serum – In the Evening I make sure I apply a few drops of this lightweight serum from Caudalie. It’s an aromatic infusion of chamomile flowers, lavender water, petit grain, thyme, sage and fresh mint. The oil-free texture glides beautifully onto the skin and absorbs in quickly. It contains hyaluronic acid which helps make the skin look firmer and more toned. It restores a youthful looking complexion and as a 30+ blogger I noticed the difference right from the moment I started using it. I’ve lost count how many bottles I’ve bought, I literally love it that much.

Kathleen Skincare Caviar Enriched Eye Cream – The best eye cream I’ve found is this one by Kathleen, I apply it both in the morning and evening. It’s incredibly hydrating on the delicate skin around the eyes. and great for reducing dark circles and puffiness. My eyes look brighter and more awake, the skin feels soft and looks smoother. This eye cream contains 23 natural and marine extracts which specifically help to firm and lift, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Weekly Skincare Treats

Decleor Aromessence Neroli Amara Oil –  I love giving my skin an extra treat a few times a week and I find using a facial oil helps give me a glowy complexion. I’ve been using this one from Decleor and my skin feels extremely soft and genuinely looks as though I’ve been to the beauty salon. This oil also smells incredible and not only are the essential oils beneficial for my skin but they help to relax my mind. Anything that’s left I will massage into my hands and cuticles to give them some extra nourishment too.

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask – For a real deep clean I love to apply this face mask when I want my skin to be looking it’s best. It’s extremely gentle on my skin and doesn’t cause any irritation. I usually apply it before getting into the bath so it has time to get to work, afterwards my skin feels extremely soft, hydrated and looks positively glowing.

Handbag essentials

Lanolips Tinted Lip Balm –  I chose the shade Perfect Nude, not only does it tint your lips in a natural pinky, nude colour but it keeps them feeling incredibly soft and hydrated throughout the day. It contains factor 30 so you’re protecting the delicate skin while out in the sun. I love wearing this alone or as a pirimer before adding my lip colour over the top.

Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream * – I have a tube of hand cream everywhere in the house and I’ll make sure to carry one in my handbag. I’m currently using this one from Caudalie which came as part of a gift set, it’s the perfect size to carry around with me. The cream doesn’t leave my hands feeling sticky, yet it’s extremely nourishing and keeps my hands feeling super soft.

Body Care

Boots No7 Gorgeous Glow Body Scrub – I like to use a body scrub before I apply a fake tan. This one from No7  is incredibly gentle with soft grains in a thick cream, It’s enriched with Almond Oil, Argan Oil and Rosehip seeds, I can’t describe the scent other than it has a fresh, soapy smell. It leaves my skin feeling so smooth and removes any dry patches, ready to apply my fake tan.

Another body scrub I absolutely love is Sanctuary’s Hot Sugar Scrub which warms up when you massage into your skin. It’s quite thick when you first scoop it out but it soon melts over the body as you work it in. It’s so gentle yet so effective, especially on the dry areas.

Kathleen Tranquil Fields Body Oil* – This wonderful massage oil contains Lavender Essential Oil, Almond Oil, Rosehip Oil and Vitamin E which help to nourish the skin and keep it feeling silky smooth, even those stubborn areas like knees, elbows and ankles. It’s designed to be used on wet skin, straight after a bath or shower. I love that moment when I add a few drops onto the palms of my hand and simply inhale the relaxing scents and I immediately feel a million times calmer. I’ll leave my full review Here if you’d like to find out more.

Palmers Coconut Oil Body Lotion* – This rich lotion feels so luxurious and smells divine. It contains natural fatty acids which help to keep the skin looking radiant and healthy. My skin feels incredibly soft and moisturised, luckily I bought 3 bottles of this when they were on offer in Boots.

*This post contains products that were originally gifted but I’ve since repurchased from the brand out of my own money.

Kathleen Facial Sonic Cleansing Device And Refreshing Cleansing Lotion

Kathleen Facial Sonic Cleansing Device And Refreshing Cleansing Lotion

I’ve tried a fair few cleansers in my time and although I love wearing makeup, I also love that feeling of fresh, clean skin at the end of the day. Finding the right products that actually work and suitable for sensitive skin can be a bit tricky, but I’ve narrowed it down to a couple that I truly trust to remove every bit of dirt and makeup.

I first came across Kathleen skincare about a year ago when I was trying out their Amazing White Illuminating Serum and have loved the brand ever since. Kathleen have a range of luxury beauty products which are natural, organic and with no added chemicals. Their products are made in the UK and Kathleen really know what they’re talking about when it comes to skincare

During the last few weeks I’ve been putting the Kathleen Facial Sonic Cleansing Device And the Refreshing and Lightening Cleansing Lotion to the test. Here’s how I got on.

Kathleen Facial Sonic Cleansing Device

Kathleen Facial Sonic Cleansing Device

Kathleen Facial Sonic Cleansing Device is completely different to anything I’ve ever used before and I wasn’t quite sure what to make of this neat little beauty gadget when I held it for the first time. The aim of the device is to give you a much deeper cleanse compared to a mitt or a muslin cloth and I loved the idea of it giving my skin a gentle massage at the same time.

After reading through the instructions and giving it a charge I found it pretty simple to use. On the side of the device there’s an on/off switch and a speed button to allow you to go as intense as you want. You can use it with any cleanser, I chose to use it with the Refreshing and Lightening Cleansing Lotion from Kathleen, simply apply it either straight to your skin or on the silicone brushes on the cleansing device and away you go.

I’ve used  a number of Kathleen products over the last year but this has to be my absolute favourite and has honestly become an essential part of my skincare routine. I cleanse my skin morning and evening, including days when I’m not wearing makeup. Until now I always thought I did a good job of getting in deep enough to remove all the grime. I use the device for a minute or so and love the way my skin feels soft and clean afterwards.

This facial sonic cleansing device uses sonic pulsations combined with an innovative silicone brush design for a gentle deep clean and thankfully it didn’t leave my face all red and blotchy like a cleansing mitt does. My skin looked brighter and felt super clean compared to just using a cleanser on it’s own, the higher speed setting is great for getting right into any problematic areas like the nose or the chin. So if you do suffer from any blemishes this is the perfect cleansing device. I also love that it’s waterproof, so on those nights where I want a full on pamper session I can do my whole beauty routine while having a luxurious soak in the bath. Oh yes, this one is definitely a keeper.

It retails at £49 and comes with a USB charging lead.

Kathleen Refreshing Cleansing Lotion

Kathleen Refreshing and Lightening Cleansing Lotion

Kathleen Refreshing and Lightening Cleansing Lotion contains 6 active botanical ingredients and is designed to lift makeup, dirt, oil and any impurities without leaving the skin dry. The cleanser comes with two muslin face cloths which help to gently remove any dirt and makeup, while giving your skin a gentle exfoliation to remove any dead skin cells for smoother, brighter complexion. The cleanser has a clean, fresh smell, it’s 100% organic and doesn’t contain parabens or sulphate.

I wanted to test this before I tried the cleansing devise so I could give you a proper review, so I began by using the cleanser on dry skin and gently massaging it all over my face using my finger tips. Then after soaking a muslin cloth in luke warm water I used it to remove my makeup and exfoliate my skin. It completely removed all of my days makeup, even those stubborn waterproof products that will not shift. My skin didn’t feel dry compared to many facial washes I’ve used, this cleanser contains rose water, lavender water, lemon, and  avocado oil among other nourishing ingredients, which all help to soften the skin.

I used roughly one to two pumps of product which was more than enough to leave my skin feeling squeaky clean. I love that it comes in a pump action bottle so you don’t end up pouring out too much product in one go. It’s Available in 2 sizes, a 50ml which is great for travelling and 150ml which includes 2 gauze muslin face cloths.

Final Thoughts

Both of these cleansing products are absolutely incredible and are definitely going to be in my daily skincare routine for a long time to come. I loved that my skin didn’t feel dry after using them, they were both incredibly gentle and removed all traces of makeup, dirt and oil.

if you have sensitive skin or maybe looking for organic beauty products then I’d definitely recommend trying out Kathleen. My skin wasn’t in bad condition before I started using their products, however I do have dry, sensitive skin and suffered from red patches. I’ve certainly noticed a difference since using Kathleen Skincare, my complexion looks brighter and my skin feels fresher and much smoother.

I absolutely love the products I’ve used from Kathleen so far, they’re all natural, organic and extremely gentle on your skin. If you do fancy trying something from their range, use the code Sharon20 at the checkout and you’ll save yourself 20% off your total.

Have you tried anything from Kathleen? If not, which skincare product could you not live without?

Jane Iredale: The Skincare Makeup

Jane Iredale: The Skincare Makeup

Summer days maybe coming to an end but we can still make the most of them with our beauty routines. That feeling of fresh, dewy skin and not being caked in a layer of heavy makeup. You may have only spent a few minutes on your makeup look, but you’re left feeling pulled together and ready for the day ahead.

Jane Iredale have recently launched in the UK and their makeup is fully mineral based, each item is kind to your skin as well as looking great when you’re wearing it. They have an excellent range of shades in each product, which includes BB Creams, Foundations, Tinted Moisturisers, Lipstick, Eyeshadows and Blushers. Even their concealers are mineral based so your skin will reap the benefits on those days you need a little extra coverage. Mineral makeup is better for your skin as it’s non-comedogenic, creating a barrier on the surface and allowing your skin to breathe rather than clogging up the pores. It’ll help protect your skin against pollution and the minerals include active ingredients that will truly benefit your skin.

Sound good so far?

Jane Iredale: The Skincare Makeup

Jane Iredale: The Skincare Makeup

I’ve been testing four products from Jane Iredale and first up we have a PurePressed Eyeshadow Trio in shade Brown Sugar. The palette includes three colours which complement one another well and are highly pigmented, they can also be applied wet or dry, depending on the look you’re going for. The soft creamy eyeshadows blend together beautifully and last for ages with no creasing. The eyeshadows are full of ingredients that will benefit your skin, even those with sensitive skin like me.

The PurePressed Blush in shade Barely Rose, a browny pink colour, is so subtle and natural it’s perfect for everyday use. This has become my go-to blusher on those days when I don’t want to wear too much makeup. Just a sweep of this blusher gives my cheeks a natural flush of colour. Again, it blends in beautifully over the top of a BB Cream and lasts pretty much all day.

Jane Iredale: The Skincare Makeup

PureMoist Lipstick gives a pop of colour while hydrating and protecting your lips just like your favourite lip balm. These come in a vast range of shades. I found it so hard to choose but eventually went for the colour Renee, a beautiful pinky rose. It’s the kind of lipstick I can just swipe on with a touch of mascara and BB Cream and feel made up without having to spend hours getting ready. These balmy lipsticks are highly pigmented and super long lasting, they are packed with vitamins, Orange Peel Wax and Moringa Butter to soften, hydrate and protect the delicate lip area. I don’t normally say this about a lipstick but they smell divine thanks to the Blackberry extracts. I must say, I absolutely love the sleek gold packaging, I think it looks extremely classy and is slim enough to fit into even the smallest of clutch bags.

Jane Iredale have just launched a new range of Triple Luxe Long Lasting Naturally Moist Lipsticks in 15 different shades, there’s even one called Sharon (maybe I should have chosen that one!) but I’m officially in love with the shade Tania, a natural pinky peach. The creamy formula gives a matte finish and is super hydrating and won’t dry out the lips. The lipstick sits comfortably on the lips and is extremely long lasting, managing to stay on well through lunch and an afternoon coffee break. That’s pretty good going in my book. It contains Moringa Oil, a rich antioxidant which will nourish and soothe your lips and a unique blend of waxes to protect and hydrate your lips. I’m even one of those people who get excited about the magnetic click when you close the lid. At £24 they are on the pricier side but oh so worth it, I will have to treat myself to a couple of darker shades just in time for Autumn.

Jane Iredale: The Skincare Makeup

Jane Iredale products are also cruelty free. This is a brand I couldn’t recommend enough, I absolutely love the makeup I’ve been using and I’m so glad I came across them on social media. You can learn more about Jane Iredale on their website and Instagram.

Have you tried mineral makeup before? How did you get on using it?
