February Favourites

Hope you’ve all had a good February? It seems ages since I wrote a Favourites post, probably because I got last months out really early and January is like the longest month ever. I’ve been trying out loads of new beauty products, I love spending an hour or two at my dressing table, playing around with makeup looks or styling my hair differently. I find it really therapeutic.

My February Favourites are mainly beauty items but there are a few random bits at the end. Let me know if you’ve tried any of the things I’ve loved this month.

February Favourites

Thanks to American English Seaberry Dry Oil  my hair has been frizz free and feels incredibly soft, it’s also given my hair a gorgeous shine. I’ve been using it as a heat protecting spray while using my straighteners or hair dryer, or on it’s own to make my hair look super sleek  This stuff is amazing and smells absolutely divine! It’s cruelty free and vegan too, so it’s suitable for everyone.

February Favourites

What can I say about the Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Volume II other than it is stunning! There are four beautiful highlighting shades: Candlelight, Spotlight, Skylight and Daylight, the two lighter shades are just perfect to use as a highlighter on my skin tone. The darker two I’ve used on my eyes if I want to add a touch of sparkle. They are incredibly pigmented, so don’t go overboard like I did at first, and the powder is super soft. I’m so glad I took the risk buying it from the Tarte website as I didn’t pay any international shipping, and this is going to get a lot of use throughout the year.

The Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape has to be my favourite concealer, ever. It has amazing cover and conceals my dark circles and any blemishes incredibly well, I love that it has a huge sponge applicator so it’s super easy to use with just one swipe. I honestly didn’t think I’d love it quite as much as I do because it’s quite a heavy formula, but it doesn’t crease or dry out my skin at all. It’s worth every single penny!

February Favourites

I’ve loved using the Touch In Sol Flawless Skin Top Coat which is perfect for a natural, flawless looking complexion. I’ll add a few drops and blend it in with my fingers, as it reacts better to the warmth of my skin and I’ll get a more natural, glowy finish. The great thing about the Skin Top Coat is you don’t need separate products, it’s a three in one base: BB Cream, foundation and powder. It’s a lightweight liquid which doesn’t clog up your skin. I think this is going to be the one to use during the summer months, plus you can build it up to get the coverage you want and it doesn’t look cakey or too heavy.

February Favourites

Anything that promises to instantly boost the skin and I’m at the checkout before you can say Pixi Beauty. I’ve absolutely loved using their Skintreats Rose Flash Balm as a primer before doing my makeup and twice a week I’ve applied a thicker layer which acts as a mask, then just gently wiping it off after about five minutes. It contains rose extract and rose flower water, which are incredibly gentle on my skin, I know some people are sensitive to both of these. The balm is oil free and glides on beautifully without leaving any greasy residue, making my skin feel ultra soft and hydrated. It’s a great multi-purpose product that’s the perfect compact size for popping in your overnight bag.

February Favourites

I’ve totally fallen in love with the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. The bottle looks simple and clean, and has a easy to use pump, with a lockable cap. It’s one of those products that works on everything, and yes I do mean including stubborn eye makeup, it’s extremely gentle, so you can use it to take every last scrap of makeup off. It has a jelly like texture, which I found a bit strange at first, at the end of the day I’ve been massaging it into dry skin and it simply melts off any makeup, removing every bit of dirt and grime. It didn’t leave my skin feeling dry in the slightest. I’ll leave the link to my Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser review if you want to find out more.

February Favourites

I couldn’t let February pass without mentioning Valentines’s Day. We stayed at home, ordered a take away, opened a bottle of Prosecco, and watched a film, just the two of us. Adrian very kindly bought me this adorable Unicorn mug from Vinegar Hill in Hitchin, which I absolutely love! Isn’t it just the cutest thing ever. It now sits on my shelf alongside my collection of other cute, pink mugs,

February Favourites

The book I’ve enjoyed reading is 100 Pieces Of Me by Lucy Dillon, it’s a bitter sweet story that made me want to sort my life out and enjoy every single day the best I can, as if it were my last. It made me think about who was important in my life and all the things around me, were they part of who I am now or was I just holding on to bad memories and things I didn’t need anymore. It made me think about everything and everyone I take for granted, and anything that gave me negative thoughts, when I could have been surrounding myself with people and belongings that filled my life with joy. I have to say, this book probably had a bigger impact on me than any of the non fiction self care books I’ve read.

What’s the one thing you’ve done during February that you’ve really enjoyed?  it can be anything at all.

Glossier

While everyone was going wild for Glossier when it launched in the UK at the end of last year, I sat back and waited. That’s me all over, I don’t mind being late to the party and would rather read a hundred reviews, then part with my cash and not jump straight in on what could be just a fad.

However, there was something about Glossier that really caught my attention and I couldn’t wait any longer. Maybe it was the simple pink and white packaging, or maybe because I’d read more favourable reviews than not, or quite simply because I felt left out of the beauty chatter on social media. I found myself saying “I really must try that” far too often, so I hit the Buy Now button at the Glossier check out and very soon I was the proud owner of two beautiful new beauty products. One very happy lady.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

After everything I’d read, I still wasn’t sure what to expect from the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, I’m used to a thick creamy one. The bottle looks simple and clean, and has a easy to use pump, with a lockable cap. It’s one of those products that works on everything, and yes I do mean stubborn eye makeup, it’s extremely gentle, so you can use it to take every last scrap of makeup off. It has a jelly like texture, which I found a bit strange at first, at the end of the day I’ve been massaging it into dry skin and it simply melts off any makeup, removing every bit of dirt and grime. I was pretty amazed that it even lifted away my waterproof mascara. Most non-creamy cleansers leave my skin feeling extremely dry, but the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser didn’t in the slightest. I’ve also been using it on wet skin while I’m in the shower before putting any makeup on and my skin feels squeaky clean. I just apply my daily serum and moisturiser and I’m good to go. If there’s only one product you try from Glossier, let it be this one.

Glossier Balm Dotcom

The Glossier Balm Dotcom had been on my wish list for so long, so naturally it was going to end up in my basket when I was making my Glossier order. It’s an all purpose balm that can be used on dry lips, cuticles, elbows, anywhere that needs some TLC. It comes in 6 different flavours, from Original to Coconut. Naturally I went for the Rose flavour, which has a translucent pink tint to it. The balm has quite a thick consistency, so I’ve been applying it to my lips every evening as part of my night time skincare routine and it’s really nourished my dry lips, they feel super soft the following day. I’ll also be using this on a minimal makeup day, when I want a hint of colour on my lips but can’t be bothered with lipstick. The tube is also a handy little size to carry in your bag through the day. I’ll be honest, it’s probably a more expensive version of Vaseline, however I really love the Balm Dotcom and I’d definitely recommend that you try it.

Have you bought anything from Glossier? How did you get on using it?

Winter Skincare EssentialsMy Skincare routine doesn’t change that much throughout the year, I find there are a few products that work well on my skin and I tend to stick with them. However, I do have a few Winter Skincare essentials to keep my skin looking it’s best during the colder, winter months.

Winter Skincare Essentials

Body Scrub

When it’s cold and windy outside I often find my skin becomes extra dry and I like to exfoliate to get rid of any dead skin cells and still have a lovely glow to my skin. I love to use Anatomicals The Buff Stuff Citrus Body Scrub. It smells incredible, I love that it has a fine grain so it’s not too harsh on my skin. I find it’s super nourishing and I don’t find my skin feels too tight after using it.

Winter Skincare Essentials

Body Cream

It doesn’t matter how good my scrub is I still love to use a thick body cream in the cold months after I’ve exfoliated. During the colder months I like to moisturise twice a day as I find my skin gets very dry after being outside in the cold, then coming indoors to have a hot bath or having the central heating on. To keep my skin feeling really soft my absolute favourite is The Body Shop Rose Body Butter, I’ve spoken about this many time before but it really does help to keep my skin feeling hydrated and nourished for many hours after I’ve applied it.

Winter Skincare Essentials

Hand Cream

One of my top Winter skincare essentials has to be a hand cream, I have them almost everywhere in the house. I absolutely love the range from The Body Shop. My current favourite is the British Rose Hand Cream, it smells amazing, doesn’t leave my hands feeling sticky afterwards, it’s really nourishing and keeps my hands feeling super soft. I also find this is one of my handbag essentials, these hand creams are small enough to pop in my bag and apply whenever I feel my hands feeling a bit dry during the day.

Winter Skincare Essentials

Face Mask

I love to apply a face mask for a real deep clean and a little extra TLC. I’m using  Formula 10.0.6 Pores Be Pure Skin Clarifying Mud Mask. It’s extremely gentle on my skin and doesn’t cause any irritation, it also smells absolutely amazing. My skin feels extremely soft, hydrated and looks positively glowing afterwards.

Winter Skincare Essentials

Cleanser

In the winter months I find I need a more hydrating cleanser to take my makeup off and I absolutely adore Boots No7 Hot Cloth Cleanser. It’s super creamy and doesn’t dry out my skin, yet still removes every scrap of makeup or just to cleanse my skin at the end of the day.

Kathleen Skincare

Winter Skincare Essentials

Face Oil/Serum

I recently discovered Kathleen Amazing White Illuminating Serum which leaves my skin looking well and truely glowing and feeling super soft throughout the day. Head over to my review if you’d like to read more about that.  Another Winter Beauty essential is The Body Shop  Vitamin E Over Night Serum In Oil, this has the benefits of a serum and oil all in one, it’s lightweight, non greasy and is quickly absorbed into my skin. I instantly look as though I have a wonderful healthy glow and my skin feels really soft and hydrated. It’s also great for massaging into my skin at end of the day for a little bit of me time and to help me unwind before bed. Anything that’s left I will rub into my hands and cuticles to keep them looking their best too.

Winter Skincare Essentials

Intense Face Cream

During the colder months my skin needs a richer moisturiser and my favourite is the The Body Shop Intense Moisture Cream which is a really thick cream and absorbs into my skin beautifully without leaving it feeling greasy. Again, it’s super nourishing, helps get rid of any dry patches and leaves my skin feeling really hydrated. My complexion looks wonderful and healthy, and feels comfortable all day long. It’s great for wearing under makeup, I know my skin really appreciates the Vitamin E, it’s just keeps my skin looking and feeling it’s best throughout the day no matter if I’m outside in the cold or indoors snuggled up with the heating on.

Lip Balm

My final Winter skincare essential would have to be a lip balm to keep my lips feeling lovely and soft during the colder months. One I’ve just finished using is the Liz Earle Super Lip Balm, it’s extra nourishing, especially on those cold, windy days. It keeps my lips feeling soft and chap free, plus it also contains Argon Oil and Shea Butter to help prevent any dryness.

Kathleen SkincareLooking after sensitive skin can be a real pain, especially over the winter months when mine can seem extra dry and look incredibly dull. I tend to use a serum and moisturiser, they’re both an extremely important part of my daily skincare routine and work in different ways. Facial serums work deep underneath the skin, while a moisturiser hydrates and softens the surface. For the past couple of weeks I’ve been using the Amazing White Illuminating Serum* from UK skincare brand Kathleen.

Kathleen Skincare

Kathleen’s skincare is cruelty free and made with 100% organic ingredients. There are no hidden nasties, such as Parabens or Sulphates, so I know exactly what I’m putting onto my face. Kathleen have put a lot of research into their skincare and now have six wonderful products which are suitable for all skin types. The Amazing White Illuminating Serum contains over 12 natural ingredients that aim to illuminate and brighten your complexion, providing intense hydration. They include liquorice for it’s anti-inflammatory properties, papaya to even out skin tone and cranberry for it’s antioxidants to help promote your skin’s youthful radiance. It has to be one of the most amazing skincare discoveries I’ve made.

Firstly the packaging looks incredibly luxurious and should definitely be out on display on a bathroom shelf. Secondly, it smells absolutely gorgeous, I just want to breath in the scent every time I use it (quite possibly being taken off to some imaginary spa somewhere).

This serum is a very thick, creamy white consistency and has the feel of a moisturiser. I wasn’t sure how much to use at first and probably went a bit over board. Believe me when I say you only need one pump to cover your whole face. My skin felt soft and smooth on the first occasion I used the serum and I instantly fell in love with it. I thought it would take ages to dry, but it glides effortlessly over my skin and absorbs in quickly. It makes an excellent base for applying my makeup and after nights where I hadn’t slept so well it made my complexion look as though I’d had a full eight hours.

After using the serum for two weeks my skin looks brighter and fresher, it feels much softer and smoother, and it looks and feels firmer. My complexion is more radiant and glowing than ever, the serum has even helped reduce dark circles and puffiness under my eyes.

Kathleen Skincare

Overall, I’ve absolutely loved using the Amazing White Illuminating Serum from Kathleen. It costs £62.40, so it’s on the pricier side, but I only had to apply this instead of using a separate serum, primer and a well known flash balm. I was so impressed with the results I shall be saving up to get my next bottle, but considering you only use the tiniest amount I believe this one will last me quite a while yet. I think it would also make a wonderful gift to recieve or to give a beauty lover for their Birthday or at Christmas too.

Have you tried anything from Kathleen? What did you think to their products? If not, what’s the one beauty item you couldn’t live without?

*This item was kindly sent to me by Kathleen UK, all opinions and photos are my own.

The Body Shop Oils Of Life

There’s something really special about doing a nightly skincare routine just before I go to bed, it’s not only beneficial to my skin but also helps make me feel relaxed and ready for sleep. I’ve been using various products from The Body Shop for years and until recently I have been using their Vitamin E Night Cream, which is light enough through the warmer months. I was after a deep, hydrating over night cream that doesn’t clog up my pores and came across The Oils Of Life range, I decided to give the Sleeping Cream a try.

The Body Shop Oils Of Life

The Body Shop Oils Of Life Range Sleeping Cream

The Body Shop Oils Of Life Sleeping Cream is a deep hydrating over night cream that get’s to work on your face, neck and decollete. It’s packed with 3 precious seed oils and 7 essential oils from around the world, this cream helps to repair and restore your skin  while you sleep.

The 3 Precious Seed oils are:

Rosehip oil – rich is Omega 3 and 6

Black Cumin oil – high in antioxidants

Camellia oil – rich in nutritive oleic acid

The Powerful Blend Of 7 Essential Oils:

Lavender Oil – known for it’s calming properties

Rosemary Leaf Oil – helps to improve the skins tone

Geranium oil – boosts the skin’s radiance

Orange Peel Oil – revitalises the skin

Lavandin oil – stimulates collagen

Majoram Leaf oil for it’s fragrance

Roman Chamomile Oil – for it’s calming properties

When I first got this I thought it was going to be rather oily, instead it’s a light, creamy gel like consistency and the most gorgeous fragrance that almost made me feel like I was in a Spa treatment room. Naturally I did wonder if I’d be able to use this as I have sensitive skin, luckily I had no reaction what so ever. The Body Shop Oils Of Life Sleeping cream had quite the opposite effect, the essential oils helped calm down any redness I had after cleansing.

After applying my usual serum I’ve been gently massaging this into my face and neck every evening so the cream could work over night. It absorbs in really quickly, not like some heavier creams that take ages and seem to sit on top on my skin. This one didn’t feel sticky or greasy afterwards and definitely made my complexion look more radiant, I love the soothing feeling it had on my skin.

The Body Shop Oils Of Life

The following morning I woke up with super soft, hydrated skin, which also looked plumper. The Body Shop Oils Of Life Sleeping Cream had completely got rid of any dry patches and evened out my skin tone, basically anything that makes me look as though I’ve had a full 8 hours sleep will always get my vote.

I’ve been using this cream for a few weeks now, my skin feels more nourished and looks more radiant that it’s done in a while, it will be perfect for the colder months when I need something a bit more intense than my normal night cream. Massaging it into my skin is such a wonderful experience and combined with the gorgeous smell of essential oils that do actually work makes me want to use The Body Shop Oil’s Of Life Sleeping Cream night after night. I’d definitely recommend it, plus it’s suitable for all skin types including oily and combination skin. It’s reasonably priced at £29.00 for an 80ml tub and it will last quite a while as you don’t need to use too much.

The Body Shop Oils Of Life

I can’t wait to try out some more of the Oils Of Life Range from The Body Shop. You may also like to read My Skincare Routine where I also talk about thier Vitamin E range.
