Keeping A Summer Glow With Charlotte Tilbury

Charlotte Tilbury Summer Glow Makeup

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Charlotte Tilbury, it simply oozes old school glamour. My wishlist has been growing ever since I purchased the iconic nude lipstick Pillow Talk last year. I made a promise that I would treat myself to a few things from the brand and start building up a collection of my own. The packaging is divine,it makes me feel oh so glamorous with a Charlotte Tilbury product in my hand. This summer’s releases have to be my favourite, the colours are quite simply stunning. Sadly I missed out on a few Limited Editions, but there’s always next year. When I sit at my dressing table to apply something from her range I know I’m going to leave the house that morning feeling great. It’s safe to say I have a slight obsession with Charlotte Tilbury and these are the products that have become essential in my summer beauty kit and I know I’ll be wearing them for a good few weeks yet to retain that golden summer glow.

I was using tanning drops in my morning skincare routine but there were some days I just didn’t have the time. Then the Overnight Bronze And Glow Mask came into my life and oh wow, is this worth it’s weight in gold.. I apply a thin layer all over my face and neck a couple of times a week while I’m doing my evening skincare. It develops overnight, leaving my complexion with a beautiful glowing holiday look.

This was one product I absolutely had to get as soon as I saw it had launched. Every one was raving about it, now I get what the fuss was about. The Wonder Glow Primer is just perfect for creating that dewy, summer glow, it’s already proven to be worth every penny. I originally bought it to wear alone while on holiday and I’ve been wearing it ever since. It leaves my complexion with the most beautiful, radiant glow, giving it a subtle lit from within look. It can also be worn under foundation for an extra sunkissed look. Plus the SPF 15 will help protect your skin from the sun. All this packaged up in one bottle, what more could a girl ask for?

I prefer a more natural look, which is why the Charlotte Tilbury FilmStar Bronze and Glow is just the perfect palette. The cool toned bronzer helps to contour your face, giving you a beautiful sunkissed complexion. The matching golden toned highlighter captures and reflects the light just where you want it. The glow from this is absolutely incredible. The shades work together to make it easy for sculpting areas of your face and creating the most gorgeous luminous complexion. The powders feel so soft and blend in beautifully, making it easy to create whatever level of coverage you want. This is ideal for anyone with fair to medium skin tones, I love how the shades give me a beautiful sunkissed glow, Also, can I just mention how gorgeous the golden packaging is, it just oozes Hollywood glamour which is what I’ve come to love about Charlotte Tilbury products.

Had to mention a cneeky addition to my collection for 2109. I’m absolutely in love with all the golden vibes from the Glowgasm palette. The shades are absolutely stunning, two blushers, a bronzer and highlighter. Each shade is incredibly pigmented and blend well together, plus the powder feels silky smooth against your cheek. I also think the packaging is simply gorgeous.

The Pretty Youth Glow Filter is a cream to powder blush and highlighter duo. It’s designed to instantly give your complexion a lift. The two shades work together to give your skin a smooth blurred finish and make you look fresh faced and radiant. There are two different palettes to choose from, I’ve gone for Seduce Blush, a powder pink and dusky rose duo, which works perfectly with my skin tone. I wish I’d picked up the Hugging Brush that goes with these blushers, it picks up the right amount of product and applies it just where it’s needed. Having said that the brush I’m using is just as good. I find the cream to powder isn’t too drying giving my cheeks a hint of colour and blurring any imperfections. The highlight shade adds definition with the light catching all the high points of my face.

I totally missed out on the Limited Edition Bigger Brighter Eyes – Exagger-Eyes Palette last, I could have kicked myself. My second choice was The Golden Goddess Eyeshadow Palette and fell in love as soon as I opened the packaging. There are four stunning golden toned eyeshadows and I’ve been wearing them a lot over the summer. This is one of those palettes you don’t need to think too hard about when you’re applying it because it’s colour coded with four shades designed to prime, enhance, smoke and pop. The Taupe shade makes a beautiful day look when worn alone or use all four for something more smokey. They blend together beautifully, the pigment is incredible making this the perfect palette for any time of day and for taking in your travel bag.

I used to be scared of liquid liners, now I’m a complete convert. I find the felt tip style liners much easier to apply than a pot and thin brush, which usually ends up all over the place. The Feline Flick is a bold black shade and a really thick formula, and the pen style applicator makes it easy to control exactly where you want your liner to go. I love that it stays put all day without even smudging. Everyone should have The Feline Flick in their makeup bag.

When I discover and fall in love with a great mascara I want to buy it by the truck load. That’s how I felt when I first tried the Full Fat Lashes as you can coat your lashes once for a natural summer everyday flutter or bulid it up for some serious volume and amazing length in a bold black. There’s no flaking or clumping so it’s a fantastic mascara for hot summer days by the sea.

Charlotte Tilbury Summer Glow Makeup

This post wouldn’t be complete without featuring at least one Charlote Tilbury lipstick. I’m already a huge fan of Pillow Talk and Bitch Perfect and decided to invest in three more shades for this summer. The colours I’ve chosen are perfect to complete any summer glowy look.

Matte Revolution Very Victoria (left), is a beautiful browny nude, which is the perfect colour for every day. Yes, I’ll be totally honest with you, I did buy this after seeing a feature on Megan Markle and this was reportedly one her favourite shades of lipstick. I absolutely love it, the colour goes with everything and works well day to night. It’s such a beautiful shade and works well with most skin tones. The pigmentation is high and it’s incredibly long lasting, but just in case I do need to top up I also carry a tube in my handbag. It may be matte but it also has a rich creamy formula so won’t dry out the lips. I think this may have taken over from Pillow Talk as my favourite Charlotte Tilbury lipstick.

Moving away from the nudes, I wanted to inject some colour into my summer makeup bag. This time I chose one from the K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipsticks and loved the look of The Duchess, (centre), a natural tea rose pink shade. This range of lipsticks have light diffusing pigments to help make your lips look more fuller and they’re incredibly creamy and glide beautifully over the lips. Tree extracts help to protect your lips against UV damage and leaves them feeling soft and hydrated.

I didn’t think a coral this bright would ever suit me but Coachella Coral (right), also from the K.I.S.S.I.N.G range, is a pink toned coral and works well for any skin tone. It’s such a beautiful shade which makes your lips look fuller and adds a subtle pop of colour to my summer look. I love the creamy formula which also helps protect and hydrate the lips.

The Lip Cheat Lip Liner in shade Pillow Talk, is a beautiful nude shade that will go perfectly with my nude lipsticks.. The soft, creamy pencil doesn’t drag the delicate skin, yet still creates a perfect line to re-shape and resize the outline of your lips. An absolute must in any girls makeup bag.

What products do you love in those last few weeks of summer. Have you switched to Autumn shades yet or are you making your holiday glow last as long as possible?

A Lightweight Flawless Base Using Boots No7 Cushion Foundation

Boots No7 Cushion Foundation

Boots No7 was one of the very first brands I bought when I first started wearing makeup in my teens, and I’ve been using their products ever since. Over time I must have spent hours asking the assistants questions about new launches and sitting on the stool in the middle of the store having my makeup done, they were always really helpful and you can guarantee I’d come away with at least one new product. I spent most of my Saturday afternoons in my local store I may as well have worked there! While most of my friends were treating themselves to Maybellene or Rimmel, I was in love with Boots No7.

Boots No7 is sometimes seen as a brand for a mature woman, but honestly, you’ll see teenage girls to women in their 80s buying their products. I think it feels like a bit of luxury without having that high end price tag, plus their range is suitable for anyone even those with sensitive skin.

As far as foundations go I must have tried them all and it became even easier to get the right shade when Boots brought out their Colour Match Service, which is an instore consultation for around 20 minutes to find the perfect colour and finish for your base, blusher and lips.

So when I saw Boots No7 had launched a new foundation I knew I had to get my hands on one and give it a try. I’d always loved the other ones I’d used and hoped this would live up to my expectations.

Boots No7 Skin Illuminator

After cleansing and moisturising my skin I applied a small amount of Boots No7 Skin Illuminator all over my face. I’ve literally been obsessed with this product ever since I discovered it last month. It instantly enhances your complexion for a natural looking radiance, it has an iridescent shimmer that reflects the light to give your skin that perfect healthy glow. It can be used in 3 different ways, as a primer before your foundation, mixed in with your base product or used as a highlighter on your cheeks and brow bones. It’s not glittery, so ideal for using during the day, whatever time of year it is.

Boots No7 Cushion Foundation

Boots No7 Aqua Perfect Cushion Foundation has been designed to achieve a fast flawless finish that’s easy to apply when you’re in a hurry or on the go. I’ve used cushion style foundations before which have left my base looking a bit dry and patchy, not one of them compares to how good this one is. Using a sponge applicator makes it easy to apply and it instantly covered any imperfections. The foundation’s lightweight, buildable coverage blends in seamlessly and left me with a beautiful radiant looking complexion that lasted all day. It dries to a soft powder making it easy to blend my bronzer over the top, I didn’t need to use a separate concealer or setting powder and it didn’t accentuate any of my problem areas such as dry patches or fine lines under my eyes. The creamy formula is infused with purified water to give a cooling effect making your skin feel refreshed and moisturised, it’s so comfortable to wear that I’d forgotten I had any foundation on. It also contains SPF 15 which helps protect your skin from the ageing effects of the sun

The cushion foundation comes in 8 different shades, so not a great choice, I’m shade Warm Ivory which is a perfect match for me. It costs £17.50 for 12ml, I very often buy Boots No7 when they have their 3 for 2 offers so it brings the price down a little. The handy size compact makes it easy for travelling, although the mirror’s not that great.

How To Use:

  • Gently press the applicator sponge down onto the mesh to release the foundation
  • Apply the foundation to your skin using the applicator in a patting motion until you have the amount of coverage you want.

I personally preferred to use my own beauty sponge as the one included didn’t have a strap on the back for your fingers and I found it very difficult to hold.

Boots No7 Bronzing Pearls

The look I’m going for is a healthy holiday glow, so I’m skipping contour and blusher, instead I’m using No7 Perfectly Bronzed Bronzing Pearls. The pots contains 3 different shades of pearls which are highly pigmented. I use a small amount by swirling a medium sized makeup brush across the pearls and applying the bronzer where I’d naturally catch the sun. Even if I haven’t been abroad for two whole weeks, this shade certainly helps give the impression that I have!

Boots No7 Cushion Foundation

Overall I really love the Aqua Perfect Cushion Foundation, I love the feel of it on my skin and the radiant look of my complexion. It’s quick and easy to use for a beautiful flawless base, and the super handy compact means it’ll definitely be coming with me in my travel bag.

Boots No7 Cushion Foundation

I wasn’t expecting to take any photos of me wearing  Boots No7 Cushion Foundation but I was so pleased with the result that I was more excited about taking a photo rather than tidying up the mess my room first!

What’s in my Summer Makeup Bag

I thought I’d let you have a look at some of the makeup products I’m using right now, they are items I use for my simple everyday summer makeup look and they are things I’ll be packing when I go on holiday this year. Some I’ve loved using for quite a while now and others I’ve only discovered recently.

When the weather’s hot the last thing I want is a layer of thick foundation and hopefuly by this time of year I will have started to get a slight tan compared to my usual pale complexion. I’ve been using No7 City Light’s Tinted Moisturiser, which has a creamy consistency but still gives me a lightweight coverage and a healthy even skin tone. I love that it’s not too heavy and it can easily be applied by blending it in with my finger tips.

I’m currently using Milani Powder Blush it is the shade Blossomtime Rose, which is a repurchase as I love it that much! The blusher has a pretty rose shape and comes in the most stunning rose gold packaging. This shade is a peachy pink colour with a slight golden highlighter, so it is perfect for summer days.

I can’t be bothered with all the contouring at the minute, so I’m using my No7 Perfectly Bronzed Bronzing Pearls to give my face a healthy holiday look. It’s highly pigmented so I only use a small amount by swirling a medium sized makeup brush across the pearls and applying the bronzer where I’d naturally catch the sun. Even if I have’t been abroad for two whole weeks, this shade certainly helps give the impression that I have!

GOSH Lumi Drops are a new discovery for me this summer and wow, I really love using them as part of my makeup routine. They came in so handy when I went away for a few days as they are so easy to apply. I simply squeeze a small drop from the bottle onto the back of my hand, use my finger tip to dot the highlighting drops on the tops of my cheek bones and just blend it in using my finger tips, no sponge required! I expected it to be be a runny consistency but it’s more like a gel, making it much easier to handle. I chose the shade Peach (004), after looking at it in the bottle I first expected it to be really dark, instead it’s a stunning pearly peachy colour and looks beautiful after I’ve blended it in. I also love that Lumi Drops are so easy to mix with my foundation or tinted moisturiser for an all over radiant glow.

Luckily at the moment I don’t need much in the way of concealer, so I’m using No7 Instant Radiance which is an old faithful of mine. I use it under my eyes to conceal any dark circles and it instantly brightens that area. It’s a light creamy formula and I find it easy to blend with either my fingers or a makeup sponge, it lasts pretty much all day and doesn’t end up looking all cakey.

I’ve never been a great fan of cream eye products, but when GOSH had a 3 for 2 offer on at Superdrug I thought I’d try out their Forever Eyeshadow Stick and I will say I’m pretty impressed. I have the shade Brown and it’s incredible, it’s creamy and so lovely to wear. On day’s where I’ve not wanted loads of eye makeup on I’ve used a little of this soft pencil on my eyelids, it’s easy to blend with either a sponge tip eye shadow applicator or just using my fingers. The colour is quite intense with a faint glittery highlighter in it, the cream eyeshadow stays put all day, even after hours on the beach on a sweltering hot day, it doesn’t smudge one bit.

I’ve been looking for a waterproof eye pencil for ages and I’ve found the perfect one. I’ve been using GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner in shade Black, it’s extremely pigmented. The product is super soft so it doesn’t drag the delicate skin around my eyes and I can either use a small amount just to define the shape of my eye or build it up for a more dramatic evening look. It does not smudge or fade throughout the day, it even survived me sweating on the hottest day of the year and a rain shower!

I have two favourite smaller eyeshadow palettes in my makeup bag at the minute. GOSH Eye Expression ‘Back To Nature’ Eyeshadow Palette is a set of four beautiful earthy toned shadows and is perfect for every day wear. The powder is soft and creamy but extremely pigmented so you don’t need too much, I find it blends really nicely too and doesn’t fade through the day. Another palette I’m using is the Makeup Revolution My Sign Complete Eye Wheel, which has 6 stunning shades and just about covers any look from a smoky eye to something more natural. Both eyeshadow palettes are the perfect size to take away on holiday too.

I’m currently loving GOSH Waterproof Mascara  in the shade Black, not only is a super intense black but it also still looks perfect after a few tears, getting hot and sweaty or being stuck in a heavy down pour. The wand is lovely to hold and the slim brush makes it easy to get to even the smallest of lashes. I do find I need to go back to apply a second coat sometimes but my lashes look thicker and full of volume without having any flaky bits drop onto my cheek or into my eyes.

I love wearing liquid lipsticks in the summer as they tend not to melt off in the heat compared to a moisturising lipstick. I find they apply much better if I use a lip scrub and lip balm on a regular basis to keep my lips nice and soft. Depending on my mood or the time of day I have a choice of 3 liquid lipsticks in my summer makeup bag, : GOSH Liquid Matte Lips in shade Berry Me (a stunning berry shade), Barry M Matte Me Up in shade Runway (a pinky red) and NYX Liquid Suede in shade Tea and Cookies (a pinky nude).  All of these have a sponge applicator which makes it easy to apply the lip colour, they are non drying and last pretty much all day, so I can eat or drink without having to worry about reapplying.

What products could you not live without this summer?

No7 City Light Tinted Moisturiser

As much as I love wearing my favourite Kat Von D or NYX foundations for a fuller coverage, their are some days when I just want a light makeup look, especially through the summer when even the most long lasting foundation can just slip away by the time I get home. I never wear a full face of makeup when I’m at home or away on holiday, so that’s where I find a tinted moisturiser can be just the thing I need.

I have tried quite a few tinted moisturisers from different brands over the years, they’ve either been completely the wrong shade or way too heavy I may as well have stuck with my normal foundation. I have a few days away by the sea coming up, so I’ve been testing out the Boots No7 Tinted Moisturiser and I must say I was pretty impressed!

First of all the price, it cost £13 for 50ml so it’s not on the cheaper end of the market but it not super expensive either.

When I first tested the tinted moisturiser in store the shade medium looked way too dark, I’m usually a warm ivory in my foundation, but the assistant tried some on my face and it was the perfect colour for my skin tone. There are only three shades to choose from, light, medium and medium/dark, so not a great selection and not really any good if you have darker skin.

It has SPF 15 which is great, I always use a daily moisturiser with an SPF as part of my daily skincare routine anyway, even so it’s still good to have a little extra protection in a tinted moisturiser. The UVA also helps protect the skin against ageing from the sun, yay I like this stuff already!

It aims to “Achieve sheer skin protecting colour with this tinted moisturiser, which diffuses light for enhanced radiance and a naturally flawless complection.”

The No7 City Lights Tinted Moisturiser has quite a thick consistency, I just applied a small amount using my finger tips and it smoothed over the whole of my face really well, especially over any drier patches. I definitely didn’t need to use a sponge or a brush as it blended in really well using my fingers. I wouldn’t say it gives a flawless finish, however it did even out my skin tone, giving a light coverage and generally making me look a bit more healthy.

I still had to use a concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes, which is ok if you have pretty good skin or want something with a lighter coverage, but if you’re prone to spots or have lots of blemishes then this probably isn’t the best product for you. Apart from a small amount of concealer and sweeping some bronzer across my cheeks, I didn’t use any other face products. It lasted ok and I’m sure if I had set it with a little powder then it would last a bit longer.

It’s suitable for sensitive skin, it hasn’t irritated my skin, I have tried so many products which have caused a bad reaction and luckily this one didn’t give me any problems at all.

Overall, I am so happy that I’ve found a lightweight tinted moisturiser that will even out my skin tone and make me look healthier than I do without any makeup at all. Perfect for a day at the beach!

What’s your must have makeup product for the summer months?
