My Perfect Pamper Night Routine

Everyone needs a good old pampering session once in a while. Taking time to relax and completely switch off from the outside world does wonders for me, making me feel a whole lot better and ready to take on what ever the next few days have in store.

Every so often I like to make sure I have at least a couple of hours for a full on pamper night, usually at the weekends and especially if I’ve had a rubbish week. Not only does it do my body good by using all my favourite beauty treats but also helps clear my mind, making me see things a lot clearer and feeling better about myself.

Here’s how I spend my perfect pamper night.

Candles

I light some gorgeous smelling candles to help me to relax, some of my favourite ones have come from Home Bargains. This one I bought while visiting the Hitchin Lavender Farm and it smells divine.

Music

I’ll pop on some relaxing music, I have a playlist on Spotify with a selection of my favourite tunes for a pamper night.

Tea

I then like to make a huge mug of tea as I find this instantly makes me feel better. Let’s face it, a mug of tea cures everything (or so they say).

Skincare

I’ll take my mug of tea into the bathroom, along with my mobile so I can carry on listening to music while I do my skincare routine. At the moment I’m using Liz Earle’s Lavender and Rose Cleanse and Polish to get rid of any dirt and oils from throughout the day. Sometimes I’ll use a gentle facial exfoliator on areas that may seem extra dry or flaky.

Face Mask

I love to use a face mask  and let it get to work on my skin while I’m in the bath, they seem to make my complexion look a lot brighter, and let’s face it, just laying there with a mask on for a while is a wonderful feeling and some of them smell divine! My current favourite is the Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask and you can find out what other products I’m loving in my May Beauty Favourites post.

A Bath

Next, I run a bath and pop in one of my favourite bath products, which right now is anything from Sanctuary Spa or Roger & Gallet. I also love to use a body scrub to get rid of any dead skin, usually on my elbows, feet and knees. Then I’ll have a good, long soak in the bath.

Moisturisers

Once I’ve got out of the bath I’ll apply a facial serum and nourishing night cream on my face, my skin always looks a lot healthier in the mornings. I’ll use my favourite body butter or cream to make my skin feel super soft.

The facial oil I’m obsessed with is the Beauty Sleep Elixir from Beuti Skincare. You may be interested in reading my full review. My first bottle was kindly sent to me by the brand but I have since bought the Sleep Elixir out of my own money.

Comfortable Clothing

The last thing I want to do now is get into tight, uncomfortable, clothing, so I’ll pop on a loose top and trousers or a pair of cosy pjs and wrap up in a warm fluffy robe, then head off to the bedroom. At the moment I love getting cosy in this ultra soft pink hoody and shorts set from Boux Avenue.

You may also be interested in what Femme Luxe Loungewear* I’m wearing at home.

Nails

This is the time I like to paint my nails, at the moment I love wearing Millennial Pink from Essence Cosmetics which is an absolute bargain at £1.69 in Wilkos. I’ll always finish with a speed dry top coat, 2 minutes and my nails are dry, which is excellent for impatient people like me!

Comforting Drink

Depending what time of year it is, I like to make a warm relaxing drink, either a Lemon and Ginger tea or a hot chocolate, grab a couple of chocolate biscuits and snuggle up on the bed.

Netflix

I love watching TV in bed and I’ll scroll through to find a film to watch or catch up with whatever TV series I’m into at the time, while enjoying my chocolate treats, ooooh delicious!

What better way to spend the perfect pamper night at home!

What’s your favourite way to relax in the evenings?

Beauty Favourites: May 2020

Spending all my time at home during the last few months meant I didn’t need to purchase any new makeup. Instead, I’ve chosen to make extra time for my beauty routine, as well as using up products I was saving for “best”.

I’ve kept my makeup to a minimum and I’ve been applying a little of the Bare Minerals Original Foundation. It feels light as a feather on my skin yet gives a natural coverage and my complexion a healthy glow. It comes in a powder format and blends into a beautiful creamy consistency using the buffing brush. It’s super quick to apply and kind to your skin.

You know those products that are just so wonderful, you keep them for best? Well that’s what I’d been doing with these beauties from Roger & Gallet I’d received for my birthday. After recent events I’ve decided life’s too short for that, so I’ve been using them for my morning routine to make it feel a little more indulgent.

I’ve really enjoyed using the Rose Mignonnerie Shower Gel, it’s a great way to feel totally energized first thing in the morning. I personally love a light rose fragrance as it fits well with my feminine style. It’s a plant based formula enriched with aloe vera and makes my skin feel soft and hydrated. I have sensitive skin and this is gentle enough that it didn’t cause any irritation and still left my body feeling cleansed.

The Rose Soothing & Nourishing Body Lotion is super luxurious yet has an ultra light texture. It absorbs into your skin quickly, leaving it feeling smooth and silky soft. It contains Almond Milk and Nepal Rose, both are naturally moisturising ingredients and help to hydrate and soothe your skin. It smells absolutely divine, with a sensuous rose aroma of Nepal Rose, Peony and Almond.

I was a huge fan of the original Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, so when I ran out I replaced it with the Rose and Lavender one. It was originally launched as a limited edition in 2012, but it turned out to be incredibly popular that this became a permanent addition to their range.

As with the original Cleanse and Polish, the rich creamy formula gently removes daily grime and make up, even stubborn waterproof mascara. It leaves my skin beautifully smooth and thoroughly cleansed. I simply massage 1-2 pumps onto dry skin and then remove it with a warm facecloth. I adore the delicate fragrance of pure Damask rose petal and French lavender essential oils, making it feel like a mini facial every time I’ve used it.

Usually I don’t get on well with clay masks, my skin finds them too drying. I recently made a purchase on the Charlotte Tilbury website and got a free mini sample of the Goddess Skin Clay Mask, so I gave it a try to see what all the fuss was about. My reaction was simply “wow”. My skin didn’t feel tight, it felt soft and hydrated, and my complexion looked brighter after just one use. Not getting out of the house was starting to have an affect on my skin so I treated myself to the full sized product and added it to my pamper routine. The ingredients include Vitamin C for brightening, Sweet Almond Oil to help nourish your skin and is rich in Omega 3 and Rosehip Oil to help revitalise the appearance of your complexion.

If you’ve ever had a self tanning disaster you’ll know how frustrating it is, especially after you’ve gone through the effort of preparing and exfoliating your skin and following the guidelines.

I fell in love with Vita Liberata two years ago after trying their tanning mouse, so I was excited to see they’d brought out a tanning mist and decided to give it a go. With the current situation I don’t have any travel plans this year but still wanted that holiday tan, to be honest I’m not one for basking in the sun anyway. The Vita Liberata Self Tanning Mist is super easy to apply and dries in 1-2 minutes for a rich, natural-looking result within 4-6 hours. The beauty of this mist is that you can customise how deep you want your tan the moment it’s dried with a second application. It’s the best one I’ve used so far to achieve either a subtle sun kissed glow or a deep beach bronze, depending on what look I’m after.

My Current Skincare Routine

When I find a skincare product I absolutely love I tend to stick to it and shy away from testing too many other items. I know what works well on my skin, also what keeps it hydrated and glowing. I thought I’d share my current skincare routine and favourite products, there are a lot to get through so I’ll jump straight in.

Cleansers

Boots No7 Revitalising Hot Cloth Cleanser – Whatever time of year it is I need a hydrating cleanser to take off my makeup. I love this one from No7 and I’ve repurchased it so many times over the years. It’s super creamy and doesn’t dry out my skin, yet still removes every scrap of dirt and makeup. I also use this to cleanse my skin in the morning, removing it with the damp muslin cloth helps to gently exfoliate my skin, leaving me feeling fresh faced and ready to apply my moisturiser.

Boots No7 Revitalising Micellar Cleansing Water – At the end of the day I like to double cleanse, especially if I’ve been into London or worn a lot of makeup that day. This  one is gentle and doesn’t cause any irritation, I pump some onto a large cotton pad and sweep it all over my face to remove the top layer of makeup. Even doing this makes me feel slightly fresher.

Toner

Pixi Skintreats Retinol Tonic – After cleansing I love to use a toner and this one from Pixi ticks all the boxes. It contains Jasmine Flower which not only has great health benefits for your skin but it smells amazing. The Retinol helps rejuvenate your skin to give a natural glow, antioxidants help reduce fine lines and Peptides firm skin & boost collagen production. It’s the best skin tonic I’ve used in a long time and I won’t be giving it up anytime soon.

Summer Skincare Favourites

Moisturisers

Decleor Prolagene Lift and Firm Day Cream – I find my skin needs a rich moisturiser to stop it drying out. This one from Decleor is a thick cream yet it feels light and fluffy on my skin and massages in beautifully without leaving it feeling greasy. It’s super nourishing, helps get rid of any dry patches and leaves my skin feeling really hydrated. My complexion looks wonderful and healthy, and feels comfortable all day.

Lancome Anti Stress Moisturising Night Cream – I’ve always used a night cream before I go to bed and this one from Lancome gives my skin a boost while I sleep. It reduces signs of fatigue and leaves my complexion looking like I’ve had a fabulous nights sleep. It’s incredibly moisturising and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Serums and Eye Cream

In the morning I love to apply Kathleen Skincare Amazing White Illuminating Serum*, I’ve written a full review here if you’d like to know why it’s one of my skincare essentials.

Caudalie Firming Serum – In the Evening I make sure I apply a few drops of this lightweight serum from Caudalie. It’s an aromatic infusion of chamomile flowers, lavender water, petit grain, thyme, sage and fresh mint. The oil-free texture glides beautifully onto the skin and absorbs in quickly. It contains hyaluronic acid which helps make the skin look firmer and more toned. It restores a youthful looking complexion and as a 30+ blogger I noticed the difference right from the moment I started using it. I’ve lost count how many bottles I’ve bought, I literally love it that much.

Kathleen Skincare Caviar Enriched Eye Cream – The best eye cream I’ve found is this one by Kathleen, I apply it both in the morning and evening. It’s incredibly hydrating on the delicate skin around the eyes. and great for reducing dark circles and puffiness. My eyes look brighter and more awake, the skin feels soft and looks smoother. This eye cream contains 23 natural and marine extracts which specifically help to firm and lift, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Weekly Skincare Treats

Decleor Aromessence Neroli Amara Oil –  I love giving my skin an extra treat a few times a week and I find using a facial oil helps give me a glowy complexion. I’ve been using this one from Decleor and my skin feels extremely soft and genuinely looks as though I’ve been to the beauty salon. This oil also smells incredible and not only are the essential oils beneficial for my skin but they help to relax my mind. Anything that’s left I will massage into my hands and cuticles to give them some extra nourishment too.

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask – For a real deep clean I love to apply this face mask when I want my skin to be looking it’s best. It’s extremely gentle on my skin and doesn’t cause any irritation. I usually apply it before getting into the bath so it has time to get to work, afterwards my skin feels extremely soft, hydrated and looks positively glowing.

Handbag essentials

Lanolips Tinted Lip Balm –  I chose the shade Perfect Nude, not only does it tint your lips in a natural pinky, nude colour but it keeps them feeling incredibly soft and hydrated throughout the day. It contains factor 30 so you’re protecting the delicate skin while out in the sun. I love wearing this alone or as a pirimer before adding my lip colour over the top.

Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream * – I have a tube of hand cream everywhere in the house and I’ll make sure to carry one in my handbag. I’m currently using this one from Caudalie which came as part of a gift set, it’s the perfect size to carry around with me. The cream doesn’t leave my hands feeling sticky, yet it’s extremely nourishing and keeps my hands feeling super soft.

Body Care

Boots No7 Gorgeous Glow Body Scrub – I like to use a body scrub before I apply a fake tan. This one from No7  is incredibly gentle with soft grains in a thick cream, It’s enriched with Almond Oil, Argan Oil and Rosehip seeds, I can’t describe the scent other than it has a fresh, soapy smell. It leaves my skin feeling so smooth and removes any dry patches, ready to apply my fake tan.

Another body scrub I absolutely love is Sanctuary’s Hot Sugar Scrub which warms up when you massage into your skin. It’s quite thick when you first scoop it out but it soon melts over the body as you work it in. It’s so gentle yet so effective, especially on the dry areas.

Kathleen Tranquil Fields Body Oil* – This wonderful massage oil contains Lavender Essential Oil, Almond Oil, Rosehip Oil and Vitamin E which help to nourish the skin and keep it feeling silky smooth, even those stubborn areas like knees, elbows and ankles. It’s designed to be used on wet skin, straight after a bath or shower. I love that moment when I add a few drops onto the palms of my hand and simply inhale the relaxing scents and I immediately feel a million times calmer. I’ll leave my full review Here if you’d like to find out more.

Palmers Coconut Oil Body Lotion* – This rich lotion feels so luxurious and smells divine. It contains natural fatty acids which help to keep the skin looking radiant and healthy. My skin feels incredibly soft and moisturised, luckily I bought 3 bottles of this when they were on offer in Boots.

Delicious Body Treats From Bilou

Bilou Bodycare

I have a real weakness for anything sweet. Anything from food, beauty and the candles in my home, then I’m usually first in the queue. Makeup palettes that smell of sweet peach and lipsticks with a yummy smell of of chocolate have all made it into my makeup bag. When it comes to body care there are quite a few products that have an almost synthetic fragrance, despite the delicious description.

One brand has got it spot on with their body care range. German Brand, Bilou, is well known for it’s unique fragrances and have recently come over to the UK and is exclusive to Superdrug. You’ll find a much larger selection of products online but they are starting to filter more into their stores. Products include delicious scents such as Coco Cocktail, Pink Melon, Fizzy Berry, Cotton Candy and Tasty Donut, and everything is 100% Vegan.

I was very kindly sent some products from the range to try out for myself and I thought you’d like to know my thoughts on each one.

Bilou Bodycare

Fizzy Berry 2 in 1 Body Spray

The first product is a 2 in 1 body spray it states it’s a deodorant as well as a body spray. I tested this on a day I was just pottering around at home even though it smells absolutely divine, I shall still keep wearing my normal deodorant, just to be safe from body odour. If you are a lover of all things fruity then this is definitely one for you. The scent reminded me of cherry sweets and lasted quite a while on me, the spray felt really gentle on my skin thanks to moisturising ingredients. I think it’s perfect to carry in your bag if you want a quick freshen up during the day.

Cotton Candy Gentle Cream Foam

I couldn’t wait to see how the Gentle Cream Foam performed as I’m use to a thick body lotion. This moisturiser is super lightweight and fluffy which comes in an aerosol bottle, you only need half a pump to produce a good amount of product. to cover your whole body. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin and it absorbs really quickly, great if your in a hurry and need to fly out the door in the morning. It contains Almond Oil, Shea Butter and Avocado Oil to help keep your skin feeling soft and smooth. The fragrance isn’t quite as strong as the body spray which I quite like, it means I can wear my usual perfume during the day without this body foam overpowering it.

Pink Melon Creamy Shower Foam

I wasn’t sure how I’d get on using the shower foam at first, I’ve used them before and some have dried out my skin. This one didn’t in the slightest, my skin felt hydrated afterwards, once again you only need to use half a pump to get your whole body clean. It’s also in an aerosol can and the consistency is light and fluffy, I did feel as though I was showering myself with a bottle of the squirty cream you’d use on your trifle. It has the most incredibly delicious summer fragrance, as though you’re being showered with melons and sweet raspberries. One morning I’d run out of shaving foam and this made an excellent substitute,  it certainly smelt a lot sweeter.

I’ve really enjoyed using this range over the summer and at only £3.99 they are such a great bargain. Bilou really haven’t compromised on the quality, not all body care I’ve tried at this price point is as good. Their products smell amazing and leave my skin feeling soft, oh and can I just mention, how cute the packaging is!

Have you tried any of the range from Bilou? Which one was your favourite fragrance?

Kathleen UK Tranquil Fields Body Care Duo

You know that feeling of excitement when one of your favourite brands introduces a new product, well that’s how I felt when I heard Kathleen were launching a body care range.

There are 3 different aromatherapy  body oils and bath oils in the collection: Citrus Cheer, Tranquil Fields and Sensual Rose, so there’s one to cover every mood and promises to enhance your bath or shower routine with a little luxury. Each product is packed with natural ingredients and delicately scented with essential oils that gives even a 5 minute morning shower the feeling of a full on pamper session.

I love using oils, whether it’s for the face, hair or body, they are part of my weekly beauty routine. When it comes to body care, I love to use oils that will soothe and calm my mood as well as give my skin a healthy, radiant look. So I chose Kathleen UK Tranquil Fields Body Care Duo, which main ingredients are Lavender, Frankincense and Vanilla and are known to aid relaxation. I couldn’t wait to start using these to unwind after a stressful day.

Kathleen Body Care

Who knew that a few simple drops could take away all the stresses that had built up during the day. Kathleen Tranquil Fields Bath and Shower Gel* smelt absolutely divine and transformed my bath routine into one of the most calming and relaxing I’ve ever had. I literally lay there and didn’t want to get out. My skin not only felt cleansed but soft and hydrated thanks to the gel’s wonderful mix of essential oils. My body was completely relaxed, ready for a good night’s sleep.

If you’re short on time, the good news is that the gel can also be used in the shower and your body and mind will still benefit from all those wonderful ingredients. Aloe Vera leaves your skin feeling clean and soft, while the fragrance of Vanilla and Lavender will reduce any feelings of anxiety or stress and leaving your bathroom smelling absolutely amazing.

Kathleen Body Care

I’ve only had a few massages in a professional salon, so I love it when I find a product that brings that whole experience into the privacy of my own bedroom. Kathleen Tranquil Fields Massage Oil* contains the same essential oils as the shower gel, giving you a sense of well being.

This oil is designed to be used on wet skin, straight after a bath or shower. I love that moment when I add a few drops onto the palms of my hand and simply inhale the relaxing scents and I immediately feel a million times calmer. It contains Almond Oil, Rosehip Oil and Vitamin E which help to nourish the skin and keep it feeling silky smooth, even those stubborn areas like knees, elbows and ankles.

I’ve been using it in the evening after my bath, but it’s just as wonderful to use after a morning shower as my skin wasn’t left feeling greasy like some oils. It’s great for prepping the skin in-between fake tans, giving you a more even colour. Any residue left on my hands I’ll give those a quick massage too, concentrating on my cuticles to kelp keep those in tip top condition.

Overall, I think this is a wonderful body care range. We all need a little bit of luxury in our beauty routine and these come with the added benefits of calming, de-stressing and relaxing your body and mind. They both help to nourish and hydrate the skin, filling your bathroom with the most amazing fragrance. These body care duos would also make a wonderful gift for any females in your life. I personally love using both products from the Tranquil Fields range so much that I look forward to my evening bath even more than I did before.

The essential oils used in this range:

Lavender

Helps to calm, reduce anxiety and emotional stress, improves sleep and relieves pain.

Frankincense

Promotes relaxation, reduces pain and inflammation, relieves chronic stress and anxiety.

Vanilla

One of the most relaxing essential oils, Vanilla can be used as a sedative, antioxidant and antidepressant.

The Kathleen Body Care range will be available from their website and through effortlessskin.com. Keep an eye out on the Kathleen Twitter feed for any exciting new products and special offers which you won’t want to miss.
