My Current Hair Care Routine

When it comes to my beauty routine my hair care is just as important as skincare. I love having long hair, but it can take a lot of looking after. I’ve tried many products over the years but now I tend to stick with ones I know work well with my hair type.

One of the best things I’ve ever done for my hair is to have a regular trim. I get mine cut roughly every 8 weeks at Style Me Hairdressing Ltd to get rid of any dry, split ends. I’ve been going there for almost four years, the staff are wonderful, they really do make me feel at home and I’m always extremely happy with my style.

No matter how much I try to look after my hair you can guarantee I have days when it’s just full on frizz. I love using Kérastase Elixir Ultime Rose Hair Oil to smooth away any frizzy ends and give it a healthy looking shine. This oil is also a treatment to deeply nourish your hair, with a blend of White Tea extracts and Camellia and Marula Oils.

I’ve loved using Lee Stafford Coco LoCo Heat Protection Mist it’s become one of my hair styling essentials, it’s a super lightweight spray that protects my hair from any damage when I’m using the hairdryer or straighteners. It makes my hair look super shiny and healthy while keeping my style in place for longer.

I’ve used a variety of different products to wash my hair but always go back to the L’Oréal Paris Elvive Colour Protect Shampoo and Conditioner. Having coloured and heat treated hair, I find both of these help protect my hair, leaving it feeling soft, nourished and clean. They contain UVA and UVB filters which help protect my hair against the sun and stops my colour fading as quickly.

When my hair does need a little extra TLC I use the hair mask from the same range. It gives my hair a deep condition without weighing it down and I’ll leave it on over night, then wash it off the next morning.

I always have a bottle of dry shampoo for those days when my hair needs a lift but I can’t be bothered to wash or style it. I discovered this one from the Lee Stafford CoCo LoCo CoConut range a few years ago and I’ve loved using it ever since. It doesn’t leave my hair looking white and powdery but it does soak up any greasy areas at the roots without leaving it feeling dry.

It’s no secret that I’m not as naturally blonde as I currently am, I’m more of a mousy blonde. I’m not the most patient of people and couldn’t sit in a hair salon to have my hair coloured. I’ve been using Clairol Nice and Easy in the shade SB1 for quite a while and love the natural blonde tone. It’s easy to apply in the privacy of your own bathroom and doesn’t dry out my hair. It also comes with a CC cream conditioner which leaves my hair feeling beautifully soft.

Redken Color Extend Blondage purple shampoo has been an absolute saviour for my blonde hair and getting rid of brassy tones. Twice a week I mix a little in with my regular shampoo and leave it on for around 5 minutes. No brassy or yellow tones, just a natural blonde and looks as though my hair has been freshly coloured. The actual condition of my hair feels soft and nourished and this shampoo helps my hair colour last that bit longer.

I try to leave my hair to dry as naturally as possible and go for as long as I can between washes. I use these cream and rose gold Remington straighteners and hairdryer for creating a number of different styles. They not only look beautiful but achieve exactly what style I’m after without paying the earth. Both the round brush and paddle brush are also from Remington.

Occasionally I’ll use heated rollers to create soft, romantic curls. I leave them in my hair to cool down and by the time I’ve finished doing my makeup and getting ready my hair style is done with minimum effort.

A wet brush is one of my Hair Styling Essentials

There’s nothing worse than trying to drag a comb through wet knotted hair, I’ve tried various different brushes which seemed to do more damage than good. The Wet Brush is brilliant for combing through towel dried hair before I style it. It’s gentle and glides through any knots or tangles without pulling your hair.

What products do you have in your hair care routine? Do you apply your own colour or have it done at the salon?

OGX Lavender Luminescent Platinum Shampoo and Conditioner

OGX Haircare

Purple shampoos have been an absolute saviour for my blonde hair and getting rid of those brassy tones. Whether you have subtle highlights or complete all over platinum, then you most definitely need a good purple shampoo, you’ll thank me in the long run. But with so many on the market, how do you know which one to go for?

For me it was a case of trial and error, plus a lot of patience, which is something I don’t have a lot of. On a recent visit to Boots I noticed the shelf with the OGX Lavender Shampoo and Conditioner, just waiting to drop into my basket, and ooh look, they were also on special offer with 20% off.

Why not, I thought, won’t do any harm. Or could it?

OGX Hair Shampoo and Conditioner

If you’re not sure how a purple shampoo works, it helps counteract a specific colour and remove the yellow or brassy tones from blonde hair after it’s been colour treated. I had been using using one I bought in a hair salon, which was ridiculously expensive and it didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

I was expecting OGX Lavender Luminescent Platinum Shampoo and Conditioner to be a really intense colour, I was surprised to see they were both so light and the shampoo was almost a clear light violet shade. How could these possibly work, I thought they had to be highly pigmented to do what they were designed to do – banish the brass.

How wrong I was. I was so happy with my hair after the first time I used the OGX Lavender Shampoo and Conditioner, and the shade of blonde is just beautiful. No brass, no yellow, just exactly what I was after from a hair care product. The actual condition of hair felt really good thanks to the Lavender Oil and Chamomile extract. It felt clean, soft and nourished, and not in the least bit dry. This shampoo and conditioner will most certainly help my coloured hair last that bit longer before my next treatment at the hair salon.

Plus the OGX Luminescent Platinum duo smells absolutely divine. I have to say the fragrance makes them the perfect accompaniment to a shower gel I’m currently using. I have been used to a purple shampoo that had a real chemical smell, so this made a welcome change.

My Top 3 Hair Care Essentials

When it comes to my beauty routine my hair can sometimes get forgotten about, but occasionally I’ve ended up with more hair care products than I know what to do with. Over the years I’ve tried numerous different products that gave me a promise of beautiful flowing locks, only to find out that I’d spent my hard earned cash on something that really wasn’t that great at all.

One of the best things I’ve ever done for my hair is to have a regular trim, I get mine cut roughly every 8 weeks to get rid of any dry, split ends. Last Year I started looking for a new hair salon in my home town and so I popped into Style Me Hair Dressing on the off chance they could fit me in. A few days later I was having my hair cut by Amy, who is so lovely and actually listened to what I wanted done and didn’t get all scissor happy. My hair was extremely dry and had a lot of breakage at the ends, but thankfully she did her magic and now I think it looks wonderful and is in really good condition. I always see Amy now whenever I’m booked in at Style Me Hair Dressing as I just love the way she cuts and styles my hair It’s a beautiful salon where all the staff are professional yet super friendly and I’m always made to feel at home, and yes they even have fairy lights!

These are the 3 hair care products that are absolute essentials as part of my beauty routine right now.

Superdrug Hair Therapy with Argan

This hair oil has been a real saviour for me recently as I’ve been out in the sun a lot more while I’ve been away and of course my hair had a few days of looking like a birds next. I bought this as a last minute thing and wasn’t sure what to expect, I’ve tried serums before and they just haven’t done the trick, I was honestly so pleased with the condition of my hair after leaving a small amount of this hair treatment oil over night, it looked and felt so silky soft, almost as if I’d been to the hair dressers for an expensive treatment. It’s amazing value for only £3.99. You can also use a few drops after styling to smooth down any stray hairs. You don’t need to use very much at all, one pump does the whole length of my hair without making it look greasy or weighing it down. If you use this on damp hair before styling it reduces the amount of time you spend drying your hair by about 40%, and if you have long hair like me anything that saves me time is a bonus. At the moment this is my Holy Grail of hair products!

milk_shake Incredible Milk

I absolutely love this hair product, it’s probably one of the best leave in conditioning treatments I’ve ever tried. Leave in conditioners tend to be a pain as they feel heavy and make my hair look greasy, but milk_shake Incredible Milk protects against heat damage and it leaves my hair feeling soft and looking healthy without weighing my hair down. It’s made with a blend of fruit extracts, including raspberry, mango and papaya, so it smells incredible too! The seed butter and milk protein helps to nourish your hair and  keep it feeling silky soft by repairing damaged hair and reducing frizz. If you have coloured hair this product will keep your colour looking good for longer and it’s also fab for being out in the sun as it contains UV protection. I spray a small amount of milk_shake Incredible Milk before styling, especially if I’m using my straighteners, the product not only protects my hair but also detangles it and leaves my hair looking smooth and shiny.

Knight & Wilson Wilson Style Freedom Beach Body Spray

Most of the time I wear my hair straight, but sometimes I fancy adding a little more volume to my style. Before I’d even tried this styling spray I read “beachy, textured, mermaid look” and that was it, I’d fallen in love. Believe me though, it actually works! I spray a small amount all over my hair and dry it using the deffuser. Instead of using a hair brush to style my hair I’ll scrunch it up using my fingers, most styling sprays leave my hair feeling crisp and sticky but with this one my hair still felt soft. Afterwards, my hair looked as though I’d sat there for hours with a curling wand to add volume and create beautiful waves. The Beach Body Spray is an absolutely fantastic styling product, one that I’ll be using for quite a while yet.

I’ve had so many compliments on how lovely my hair looks recently and it’s all down to these three products and a regular trim at the hair salon, which I am so happy about as I’ve been colouring my hair for years and I’ve used just about every heated appliance known to mankind.
